I worked on the barges in the 80s for $40 per 18 hour shift. Man I hated it. And I sabotaged my work-boat with honey in the diesel tanks before I finally walked away from the hell at the Keeokutch, IA lock and dam.
perfect! i took a walk along the stone arch bridge earlier today and i saw a boat that was in the lock. i wanted to watch to see the dam in motion, but i didn't have time. this video was just what i was looking for. nice music selection too : )
Excellent video! We are studying locks and dams in my science class right now and I am going to show this video in class. I live and teach in Minneapolis so even better! Thanks for the video.
This is an awesome video. VERY much my style (My tea video, lasagna, and baklava video along the same lines). Whats the name of the music playing in this video?
Is the bridge featured in the background during the first 10 seconds or so the bridge that collapsed a few years ago? Please get back to me I would really like to know. By the way your uploads are amazing!
This really is a nice part of the Mississippi. Between the lock and downtown St. Paul, quite a pleasant experience by boat.

Oh how I miss the locks back home on the Erie! We would get boats all the way from the gulf. Great Video, thanks for sharing!

That is cool.

Tiny boat in a large lock, how ridiculous, yet the boat still has to stop and be tied to the side while the water is being leveled.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it.
The song is called "Short Circuit" by the Les Paul Trio.

Sounds like a quartet to me.

You know what, BB, you're right. It does sound like a quartet. Maybe I can get ny money back on this CD, for false advertising.

Nope. The bridge that collapsed was the I-35W bridge. The one in this video is the Ford Parkway bridge.

I never knew they did that for everyone. Do they open the lock to any boat that shows up?
eluko79 4 years ago
Yes. Lockage is a free and available to all vessels, private and commercial.

The video turned out great! I really like your choice of music and the footage of the dam being shut off.
It was nice to meet you.

Thanks. I saw your photos on Flickr:
The rest of you should search Flickr for username "MNkiteman" to see them; they're stunning.
I never knew people used kites to take aerial photos and panoramas. Very cool.
