Though I like "Careless whisper" a lot O_O Maybe Buckley isn't as academically trained as GM, but he's naturally very very talented and has a very wide vocal range (listen to Starsailor, Sweet Surrender or Troubadour). Its amazing just how many people had never heard of 'song to the siren' before George sang it on the 25 live tour. His version isnt as haunting as the 'this mortal coil' version, perfectly executed though as always.

Usually, George Michael's material serves his voice quite poorly. He certainly does justice to this beautiful song. Still, Liz Fraser's version is infinitely more moving. There's just something otherworldly about her delivery of the song that transports the listener, here George just sings very, very well. Does anyone know if Jeff Buckley ever covered this song?

George Michael is clearly a gifted singer. But he chooose to cover, almost to the note, Robert Plant's cover of This Mortal Coil's cover of Tim Buckley's song. The giveaway is the lyric "I'm as puzzled as a newborn child" instead of "I'm as puzzled as the oyster". Still, Tim's fans should be pleased with a beautiful rendition of one of their favorite songs.
Some of us prefer the alleteration and dragging of the "newborn child" as to "oyster". "Oyster" is an awkward lyric and Buckley was embarrased by it. It's kind of a marker. If someone sings "newborn child" that means they learned the song from an ealier cover and were unaware of Tim's performance on "The Monkees". All in all Michael's rendintion is powerful and moving.

Its amazing just how many people had never heard of 'song to the siren' before George sang it on the 25 live tour. His version isnt as haunting as the 'this mortal coil' version, perfectly executed though as always.

this really sucks, maybe because of the bad sound. it's a discrease for the original performer Tim buckley. he was THE man. great voice, great songwriter. if you listen to him, you'll understand why no one should cover this or any other song!!!

But !!!!! NOTHING!!!!! compares to This Mortal Coil's version. This version just doesen't give me the same chills as "This Mortal Coil".
Their version is more haunting, warm, shivering and deep.

Usually, George Michael's material serves his voice quite poorly. He certainly does justice to this beautiful song. Still, Liz Fraser's version is infinitely more moving. There's just something otherworldly about her delivery of the song that transports the listener, here George just sings very, very well. Does anyone know if Jeff Buckley ever covered this song?

George Michael is clearly a gifted singer. But he chooose to cover, almost to the note, Robert Plant's cover of This Mortal Coil's cover of Tim Buckley's song. The giveaway is the lyric "I'm as puzzled as a newborn child" instead of "I'm as puzzled as the oyster". Still, Tim's fans should be pleased with a beautiful rendition of one of their favorite songs.

"I'm as puzzled as a newborn child" was in Buckleys version ""I'm as puzzled as the Oyster" was an early version he sang on the Monkey's show.

Some of us prefer the alleteration and dragging of the "newborn child" as to "oyster". "Oyster" is an awkward lyric and Buckley was embarrased by it. It's kind of a marker. If someone sings "newborn child" that means they learned the song from an ealier cover and were unaware of Tim's performance on "The Monkees". All in all Michael's rendintion is powerful and moving.

Buckley is considered by many to be a brilliant vocalist and lyracist, many peoples top ten. The fact you belittle him is perhaps because he is very unusal and avent garde, you clearly like safer more mainstream voices and thats all right, but I don't see why yo hate Buckley so intensly?
I mean to take glee in something like someones heorin adiction and untimely death to be shamefull and disgusting. Many people have and their families had to deal with drug adiction and you inslut them.
