  • he missed the 1st verse but still his voice suits the song..

Not bad at all Mr Michael.

  • covering this song, shows george michael has talent and taste,

  • Dowwnload the audio from this vid at soundnabber doht cohm.

  • he is so brilliant

  • It's the Cocteau Twins my dear, and with your goth sounding name, I'd think you'd appreciate them. Elizabeth Fraser is known to have the voice of an angel, and why be so harsh? it's not becoming of you............dear.

  • are you the fuck all that retard??? this song is originally by TIM BUCKLEY. Who the fuck were Cockto twins or whoever, when Buckley kicked and still kicks everybody's ass?? :O

  • @TheVelvetBride

err Tim hands no ones arse when George does his thing! I know many a high end song trainer/coach...none would ever choose buckers over GM even with a bullet to thier head!...its like comparing chalk to chesse minions,he(tim) is'nt that great, just get over it!

  • @Panos1963 LOL even leaving behind that GM is popish crap singer and Buckley an amazing songwriter + innovative and amazing guitar player in folk, psychedelia, anant-garde and jazz fusion, he is a kickass vocalist too with a voice range of 4 octaves :D Just compare his performance of the this song and gm's, I get shivers everytime when Buckley vibrates his voice singing "oh my heart shies from the sorrow"

So, fuck off all GM fans, I'm not even going to argue on that.

  • @TheVelvetBride

your name sounds gothish enough for me to want to slowly put a blade in your cloth eared body!ol

calling GM popish(he's far from that, and some), justs re confirms how little your fat arse(i bet you are) knows about music and craft in general,...Tim Buckley a vocalist?...get a grip of you fat mid drift and get a life........i haven't seen ONE buckers video that even suggest that he's even a decent singer,as for his lyrics,,,,,,most are suspect at best,,get a grip fatty!

  • @Panos1963 I know very well how lovely, tight and round my arse is (both literally and figuratively). And the fact won't be changed no matter what you or anybody else says))

BTW, in my first post I didn't mention ANYTHING about GM or his abilities to sing, I just said that the song is originally by Buckley :D

  • @TheVelvetBride errrr"popish crap singer" springs to mind......BTW i'm partial to a round tight arse....so for that i take a bullet right between the eyes..lol

i've had enough of youtube wars, any offence/s my appolgies and some go out to you and anyone(well almost) i've been rude too...most deserved, but hey.......but seriously, tim buckley a great vocalist?....i've really seen better at my local on karoke night...but if that floats your boat, who am i to sink that!

  • @Panos1963 ok, my apologies too for being rude. I think GM is a good singer, but I'm not into his type of music. Though I like "Careless whisper" a lot O_O Maybe Buckley isn't as academically trained as GM, but he's naturally very very talented and has a very wide vocal range (listen to Starsailor, Sweet Surrender or Troubadour). But above all, I like the music in general he made... That's it. Peace

  • @Panos1963 Tim Buckly was a brilliant vocalist!

  • @Panos1963 do you know how many of Tim Buckley's songs have been covered by great bands....... get off you shady and shallow ass and get a little bit real , if you can.

  • @TheVelvetBride p.s judging by your favourites, you really are fucking clueless.....just go and stick your fat ugly head in some(big blender fatso!

  • @Panos1963 Yeah, and btw, my nickname is a reference to a Pink Floyd song. Everything very psychedelic, nothing gothic :P

  • @TheVelvetBride agreed!!!

  • Thank GOD he did the Mortail Coil version and not the original. The original is really dull and plodding - amazing how people can turn it into something so beautiful,

  • Yes, big surprise for me too! This Mortal Coil's version is unsurpassed and still is - but George did a good job here.

  • fantastik !

  • Exellent performance

  • Excellent

  • Love this song (song to a siren), and love George M's music, brilliant!

  • His rendition is brilliant and moving. Love this man's voice. What a gift.

  • I wish George would release this as a single. In the meantime, this will suffice. Thanks for the excellent quality recording! :)

  • The Czars do an exquisite version of this song.

  • Think, maybe, he chose this version to open his shows because he loves it so much ?

  • Totally mimics the This Mortal Coil Version! I hope he at least mentions them, Jesus!

  • directly taken from this mortal coil, not from t. buckley

  • 'Kin 'ell George - pretty damn good! Weird to think that when TMC covered this in '83, George was down Club Tro;icana deing a Bad Boy. Maturity makes the man, and hands up, hats off - he does this all time classic proud. Even Tim might've approved...

  • @stiffler341 Assume you are not a fan of This Mortal Coil either, as this is an obvious homage to their version? Do you perhaps consider yourself to be too cool to admit to liking something by George Michael? Snob!

  • @MisAnnThorpe thank you for your comment, i am a huge fan of this mortal coil and cocteau twins for your information!!!, as for snobbery? if that is your opinion of someone that you dont even know then so be it!

  • @stiffler341 I just can't work out what else it could be. I mean, George Michael's version is hardly radically different is it? Like I say, it is obvious he has heard TMC's recording and liked it so much, he has paid them the ultimate compliment and basically copied it. Therefore I fail to see how he can have destroyed it. You should try to be less biased and more open minded in your thinking.

  • I wish he would come back for another American tour. I missed him in Atlanta,GA on my birthday! :-( This is quality sound and video, like he is in my head singing. Love him, voice of an angel.

  • It was better in Dublin

  • It was a "UNFORGETABLE" concert

    Mo-nikske

  • George Michael's talent to Tim or Jeff Buckley is like comparing George Michael's talent to Elton John's not even close!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Wonderful, but then George Michael is one of my favorite singers. Do look for Brendan Perry's cover. It's my favorite.

  • Wow! What beauty in his voice. It's a performance like this that makes me appreciate his wonderful musicianship. He's really got it.

  • Wow. I have to admit, I wasn't expecting much. But George Michael did an EXCELLENT job covering this track. Quite beautiful. As much as I love the original, This Mortal Coil's version will forever be my favorite rendition, but hat's off to Mr. Michael, here. Surprisingly good. Better than good. Kinda awesome.

I love being surprised like this. :)

  • @skrason This one surprised me in a positive way!!! The version of This Mortal Coil is entangled with my life, but it is not the original... Tim Buckley wrote this one! But what you said: Hats off to Mr. Michael!!!

  • @gyqz Ain't it? He did a great job. And yes, I love Tim Buckley's original version, as well. But Liz Fraser's voice is so incredible. TMC's version will always be my favorite.

  • @skrason I can only say amen to that!!!

  • @skrason the original was Tim Buckley, although This Mortal Coil's version was the 1st I'd heard.

  • @SaraFShirazi Yes, I heard TMC's version first in the late '80s. I finally got my hands on Tim Buckley's original when I purchase the TMC boxed set, whenever that came out, early '90s maybe? It's a beautiful thing. :)

  • @skrason totally agree on all points.

  • This is closer to the Buckley version than the Mortal Coil version. or the candy redux.

  • No one can sing like Tim or Jeff ...... haunting voices that cut deep.

However its good to hear everyones versions.

  • as good as cocteau twins cover, most impaortant are the words, so deeeep

  • actually it's tim buckley track, i love the way other people make a track popular and the ARTIST gets no credit .. read a book dick

  • Dudeeat32...you fail.

  • @aparker22418 Failed at what??? You can't fail when you express your opinion!!!! This is a poor version of a great song written by, "Tim Buckley." Don't take is personally!!! Read Crijevo's comment 8 below this. He is dead on!!!!!!!!

  • @dudeat32 Calm down. lol.

  • @dudeat32 this is actually a song by THIS MORTAL COIL/Cocteau Twins.Look it up and educate yourself before you rage your mindless drivel. noob.

  • @dieselskyy This is not a song by the cocteau twins they just cover it. the czars also have a wonderful but but tim buckley's orginal is and always wil be the nonpariel.

  • @shuffledigfoot : poor old Larry,never gets a look in.

  • well this version is good but i prefer this mortal coil but he tried besides i like a lot G.M ¡¡ fast love yes¡¡ the performance is amazing¡

  • @goticaborderline Check Out Sinead O'Connor's Version Of "Song To The Siren" On Youtube It's AMAZING!!!!!

  • Please George, Come back in Belgium, it was A M A Z I N G !!!

  • Beautiful.

  • incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! xoxoxoxoxox

  • crijevo ur a fucking dick! Pathetic attempt?? Get a grip!

  • loved the original

  • The problem is - this is a Tim Buckley song but most seem to follow the cult-ish This Mortal Coil arrangement (which is evident in Michael's rather pathetic attempt at catching up with Liz Fraser's vocal acrobatics). From George Michael's point of singing, he turns it more into a male equivalent of Celine Dion.

  • the cocteau twins are my favorite group but i think the czar's cover of this song is the best.

  • nah. go find liz fraser's...

  • Exactly...Liz has the best version with This Mortal Coil. George even gets the lyrics wrong here... "...were you here when I was for sale?" The song deserves treatment from someone who knows the lyrics.

  • if u listen closely dtmangolover george sings the correct words!!!!!!LISTEN!!!!!

  • come on you guys Tim buckley the original singer songer of the song was the real deal. soft sweet tender all his stuff was as awsome as this song haunting melodies he could really love and sing about it.have you you heard a more beautiful voice ? His first four albums were amazing .If you like song to the siren I know you will love Tim buckley Blessings

  • It's true -- some great covers out there but Buckley's original is the best by far.

  • buckleys is awesome and its on youtube i still love the cocteau twins though

  • Not true! I bought Tim's albums on the back of This Mortal Coil's version. Can't get into it at all.

  • Back in the 80's I was the owner of a successful strip bar in Manhattan. I had girls doing lap dances and fuckin customers *and myself* on the side. I had it all - money - fast cars - fruit platters delivered, oysters and caviar for breakfast - champagne all around .... sleazy friends with 1 million dollar tips for the great nights they had at my club. What more can I say? .... " Gotta get IT up to get down .... oooh oooh baby baby! "

  • What a twat....!

  • Its amazing just how many people had never heard of 'song to the siren' before George sang it on the 25 live tour. His version isnt as haunting as the 'this mortal coil' version, perfectly executed though as always.

  • listen to john frusciante's version

    sublime! :)

  • wow!!!!

    incredible!

me pone la piel de gallina la intro

  • This is not from tim Buckleys originaly but from this mortal coil

  • Great version. I didn't know he liked Tim Buckley!

  • pish version

  • Oh, I really think it is one of the best songs ever! If it isn´t the best ever!! It has so much loveness in it! George´s voice is so full of emeotions and I can stop cry!!! George, you are amazing! LOVE U! Always your darling, my boy<3

  • fantastic man, seen him live twice, plymouth and earls court final 2,where i was by the side of stage and lucky to touch his hand twice, god's my witness..i dont lie. did not wash hand for 2 days!!! love song to the siren.can you buy the song anywhere?? true love to george..xxx

  • hi dale25fan, not sure you can get this anywhere sung by George, but i do know you can get it on CD by various artists, i will find out the names for you if you like, BUT obviously our George sang it THE BEST, just love the range in his voice, his voice is just pure class x satinchic x

  • Great video! I saw 25 Live in Houston this year...AMAZING!

  • Surprisingly excellent, verrry good!!!!

  • Yeah right hotgeorge the best in the world. I hear he's also quit proficient at cock sucking. Go listen to the origonal or at least some GOOD artists the guy doesn't rate.

  • george can sing any ones song and make it his own, he is the best in the world, his vocals leave me speechless! i could thank him everday and that would never be enough! xo hot!

  • irenenieweg you should really clean ur ears, didnt ur mama teach u that?

  • this really sucks, maybe because of the bad sound. it's a discrease for the original performer Tim buckley. he was THE man. great voice, great songwriter. if you listen to him, you'll understand why no one should cover this or any other song!!!

  • irenenieweg cutting and pasting AGAIN!..lol..give up you fool..lol

  • well I really do think that the elizabeth razer version is more beautyful than Buckleys version! For that I do not agree with you. Interpretaion is what Art can be all about!

  • dam thats actually pretty darn good george micheals....sounds like the cocteau twins chic style a bit...but a guy of course.. the mass crowd is always nutty for a soung like this...

  • Heroes del Silencio abria sus conciertos hace tiempo con la version de This mortal coil de esta cancion.

    salu2

  • i cant wait to hear him sing this again...i love george michael!!!

  • Man he made a god fist of that, It's not Tim and it's certainly not Liz Fraser but it was pretty bloody good.

  • the one and only george michael, there will never be another!!! the voice of perfection, the looks of a god, and the way he dances, he makes me feel so good!!! hot loves you so much!!! thank you for boston!!!

  • My god beautiful & stunning what a way to begin a concert. LIz Frazer does a magical version too. Hope George get sown here to OZ?

  • Hmmmmm, not bad. I love George Michael's voice to death....

But !!!!! NOTHING!!!!! compares to This Mortal Coil's version. This version just doesen't give me the same chills as "This Mortal Coil".

Their version is more haunting, warm, shivering and deep.

  • Wow, I didn't realize George Michael had such a beautiful voice, actually.

  • this song is godslike. An Elfs song...

  • best singer ive heard lately is kurt nilsen

youtube-i dont have what it takes. also hallalujah, incredible.i was @ this concert george is amazing, but check out Kurt, even better

  • no comparison whatsoever.Kurt has a great voice but George has it all.

  • straordinario...

  • He's making it up as he goes along!

  • WHAT? UR AN IDIOT!!!

  • it doesnt matter he still sounds like an angel, always has and always willl!!!!

  • This is beautiful. I can hear the influence from This Mortal Coil in his style on this. Then from that to the more contemporary style we know him for, this must have been a fantastic concert!

  • The Half Man Half Biscuit version is my personal favourite. It's extremely touching.

  • Lol!!! I spat my coffee all over the keyboard now!!

  • I need to hear that - this version aint hot

  • Mortal Coil is the best cover I think! This one is not so bad too. But George's been listening to Elisabeth Fraser's way of singing here. Luv them both. ;-)

  • He is the best male singer of all times

I am 35 and listening to him for 23 years now

Couldn't find anything better and lasting long than his songs

    George you are flawless !!!

  • Bah he's a very average singer in my opinion. But then each to their own. Tell ya what though. Listen to Antony from Antony and the Johnsons here on youtube and then tell me who you think is better

  • you really can't compare. i do think george is a very nice singer - and anthony too.

  • G.K.P. he means the wOrld to me! xOx

  • this guy got taste. tim buckley would be proud! ;)

  • Agreed! And Fraser too ...

  • its american falt they dont exept gay people so they loest a big artist

  • This is indeed a Cover of Tim's song BUT George Sang it in the style of Liz from Cocteau Twins. I hate that George disappeared from the U.S. limelight .

  • alll suck against george

  • David Graves version is worse!!!Mortal Coil and Georges are the best, apart from original. But those other two can sing.

  • I think David Gray's version is the best.

  • How can it have been a brave choise for George? He's one of the best vocalists on the planet!! where as Elizabeth phraser,Tim Buckley.......well,i don't even need to go there..lol

  • george michael is talented, but he can't pull this song off. it was written for tim buckley to sing, and he sang it beautifully... the best i've ever heard it...especially the monkees recording

  • Same here, no disrepect to George, Robert or the many other artists who have covered this song. The song is amazing and is sang best by Tim Buckley, imo. But, that's what's great about music, we all have our likes/dislikes.

  • Usually, George Michael's material serves his voice quite poorly. He certainly does justice to this beautiful song. Still, Liz Fraser's version is infinitely more moving. There's just something otherworldly about her delivery of the song that transports the listener, here George just sings very, very well. Does anyone know if Jeff Buckley ever covered this song?

  • can you imagine if JB had ever covered it?? where i come from, it would be on the same level as hallelujah--hypnotic, absolutely mesmerizing. i'll bet he sang all his dad's stuff at home, though--just to try it on.

  • George Michael is clearly a gifted singer. But he chooose to cover, almost to the note, Robert Plant's cover of This Mortal Coil's cover of Tim Buckley's song. The giveaway is the lyric "I'm as puzzled as a newborn child" instead of "I'm as puzzled as the oyster". Still, Tim's fans should be pleased with a beautiful rendition of one of their favorite songs.

  • "I'm as puzzled as a newborn child" was in Buckleys version ""I'm as puzzled as the Oyster" was an early version he sang on the Monkey's show.

  • Some of us prefer the alleteration and dragging of the "newborn child" as to "oyster". "Oyster" is an awkward lyric and Buckley was embarrased by it. It's kind of a marker. If someone sings "newborn child" that means they learned the song from an ealier cover and were unaware of Tim's performance on "The Monkees". All in all Michael's rendintion is powerful and moving.

Check out David Gray's version for another take on the same song.

    Johnat24th

  • George make one concert in germany please we need you we want to see you again in germany i hope you read this its importent because i and my two brothers want see you again

  • Check out the versions by Tim Buckley (who wrote and recorded the original),Robert Plant,Bostik Swastika and This Mortal Coil. Also other versions on one or two Buckley tribute compilations.

  • they suck compared to this.

  • tim buckley didn't write this song. his lyricist larry beckett

  • It was co writen with larry beckett

  • I've been on his Moscow performance and I really enjoyed his voice! One of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. It was wonderful show!

  • wow, looks like a great show, he just gets better with time. Never thought he'd do a song like the old This Mortal Coil classic, but that just shows the quality of the man, nice one.

  • for some reason i said Tim Austin..i meant Buckley...maybe Tims vocals reminded me of an old rusty Austin motor car..lol

  • surely, you jest!

  • i find it LAUGHABLE that some people put Tim Austin's vocals in(or even above!!) George Michael's league.......George is MANY leagues above Tim Austin's vocal capabilities....and anyone with even the slightest knowledge of great voices would agree!

  • ---George is MANY leagues above Tim Austin's vocal capabilities....and anyone with even the slightest knowledge of great voices would agree!---

Yea man, even the slightest ahahaha

    Tim Buckley's god!

  • Tim Buckley had a 3 and a half octave range, a better musical and songwriter sensitity and is leagues above George Michael, not to dis Michals but Buckley was one of a kind.

  • LOL......Name the best vocalists not to mention lyracists.....and Buckley wouldn't even get on the radar...FACT!!! I've you tube'd loads of this Buckley songs, and i've heard better buskers...i guess at one point he heard his own vocals and took alot of herion to end it..atleast he did something right!!

  • Buckley is considered by many to be a brilliant vocalist and lyracist, many peoples top ten. The fact you belittle him is perhaps because he is very unusal and avent garde, you clearly like safer more mainstream voices and thats all right, but I don't see why yo hate Buckley so intensly?

I mean to take glee in something like someones heorin adiction and untimely death to be shamefull and disgusting. Many people have and their families had to deal with drug adiction and you inslut them.

  • tim buckley is probably the most gifted vocalist in any genre of music. his voice trancended emotion beauty and even time... your just someone who enjoys music as light entertainment. Dont review something you haven't a fucking clue about. And heroin is a debilitating heartbraking illness. Dont make fun

  • I enjoy all KIND of music (gothic, alternative, electro, classical, folk,...) and I THINK George is a REAL talent... and I'm NOT a Pop music lover ! People are SO snob here on You Tube... I don't want to compare a banana with an apple !

  • superbe voix ! merci une soireé magnifique inoubliable !

  • Heb dit ook op mijne gsm en pc staan, maar deze kwaliteit is beter! Ik wou dat hij nog eens kwam. super

  • This song is Beautifil, George opened the show with it in Dublin August 2nd 2007, was absolutely world class. was an honour to be there. This man has the voice of an Angel, you have a new Irish fan.

  • What a load of sh*te! How dare he sing a song as good as this!

  • man....you don`t know sh%#t!how dare you write here?do something usefull for us and LEAVE US!!!!

  • I have to agree with extacorfan76. This is a blatant copy of the Mortal Coil copy of a superb song. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY does this song as good or comes close to Tim Buckley.

  • yes,the song is superb.but NOBODY does sing this song like George!you have to admit!his voice is the most beautiful i`ve ever heard!so,you should comment everywhere else but here!

  • I can post my view anywhere I want. Just because I have different music taste to you doesn't make you right. I bet you have never even heard the Tim Buckley original.

  • you got it wrong!i never said i don`t like tim,i just said george`s voice is much better!but the comment of extractorfan 76...and you agree with him

  • and by the way,i happen to have the tim buckley original.just because i think George`s voice is HEAVENLY,doesn`t mean i hate the others.i also like depeche mode, jeff buckley,,coldplay,u2,keane,good stuff, you know?

  • i bet you people h#te george because his personal life. it`s his bussiness!i don`t care if he`s straight or g#y,i just love his music and his voice.i bet you`ve never been to any of his concerts!

  • Where did I say I hate George Michael? Never mentioned his personal life. The reason I like Tim's version is purely based on MY musical tastes. You make too many presumptions my friend.

  • You don`t hate him,but you agree with this:"What a load of sh*te! How dare he sing a song as good as this!"...And why he should not?

  • what the &&#%^ do you mean, he can sing whatever he wants, and he performs this song beautifully! you wish you had his voice to sing it, you ignorant hater!

  • George, your version is absolutely wonderful. Should you release a studio version, I'll buy it 2x. Best regards!

  • i looooooooooooooooooooooooove the way george sings this song.!

  • song to the siren was a very good surprice...oh my God his voice....its like crystal...!

  • Nice soun quality thanks for add :)

  • tim buckley...yes..but george is much better.i`ve never heard such a wonderful voice.thank you george for everything!you`re the god of music,of all times!

  • Thank you!!! It must be a fantastic atmosphere there in antwerp! I see the hamburg concert in november last year.
