It's sage stick (the first time I saw her use one was on Scarlet's Walk), and if you wave it too harshly the "cherry" will burn out, kind of like a cigarette would.

that would have been interesting. LOL. However, she was just pretending. The stick was not even lit. I sat first row just in front of her and there was no smoke or smell at all.
