@MCrex007 You could open the .gif on photoshop and "Export" every frame with "Render Video.." as .png files. Then select and open all the .png files under "File System" in VTFEdit, but you can't add delay on a VTF like in a .gif so each .png file (frame) can add up to 150 kb (the limit for TF2 sprays) quite quickly. Most .gifs won't fit as a spray without having horrid resolution, playing super fast, or both. You're better off finding about 4-6 .png's and making your own ".gif" with VTFEdit.
@Samurai0592 lol once you have saved the spray in the logos folder, you must launch the game (e.g., tf2) then click in options/Multiplayer and select your newly created spray. Then go to the tab 'Keyboard' and look for the 'tag' (or the 'spray' I don't remember) line, and bind the spray to a key. Then you just have to press the key in-game in order to spray.
I can't get it to work, I went through every single fucking thing, both here and on the Gamebanana tutorial, but it still won't do anything, what the fuck did I do wrong?
Hey nice job, this is cool. One tip though, you can auto-select the contour of the player, and it's much faster than deleting everything behind it. Thanks!
@Adobeeditsify Sure ! ;) It seems hl2 engine (the one used by tf2) has been updated, and now an additionnal step must be done:
'I could not get the spray to show up without making a VMT file with VTF Edit and putting it in the logos folder' (said by WolfDemonProductions)
'Open VTF file in VTFedit and go to Options and make sure Auto Create VMT File is checked, if it is not, check it. Finally go to File - Save as and navigate to your logos folder' (FPS Banana)
@fudgekittens Editing image: Instead of using a "normal" image, use an EMPTY image, where you will activate alpha channel so that the whole image would become transparent. Then follow video indications until you reach the "mipmaps step". There, you just have to click on "Open Onto this Surface" when you are at the first mipmap (maybe at 2nd mipmap also, it depends on the distance you want the image to appear), and then, choose your true image, that must be saved as a TGA file (for transparency).
I would like to note that while your tutorial was outstanding, it would have been better if you had sped up the part in which you deleted the background around the spy. Also, I don't know if it is just me, but I could not get the spray to show up without making a VMT file with VTF Edit and putting it in the logos folder.
@WolfDemonProductions you're so right, I only realized the deleting part was so boring once the video was definitively uploaded to Youtoube. Nevertheless, I will pay more attention to future videos now ;)
Hmmm, what you say about VMT is surprising, I din't had to do that, but the fpsbanana has been updated and they also recommend to do so, I think it is due to an update of hl2 engine...
@MRkiz1 look at the description -__-' --> "Song: Requiem for a dream, lord of the rings "remix" of the song "Lux Aeterna", from the soundtrack of Requiem for a Dream movie, by Clint Mansell."
Well, I am not an expert on Photoshop at all, that's why I did it manually.
But I'm pretty sure you can do it far faster if you know how, but I don't. However I don't think Photoshop would be able to do it as well as a human will.
The first 5 or so steps could be shortened to "get the picture you want" instead of all the cropping and transparenting and whatnot. And isn't there some program that can do this all for you if you just supply the images? This seems overly complicated.
you could have saved a bunch of time loading up a dev texture map. that puts a solid color in the bg like Grey for the Screenshot. aswell if you use the flaming pear plugin set with one of the solidify filters instead of a cutout, you will get a better blend on the transparent sprays. Valve does this with most of their decals. it really easy if you have a outlined border for your image. and VTF edit converts DDS.
I think you just need to delete the whole image when "deleting everything you don't want" and after that, adding text (on the empty layer) using photoshop functions. Haven't tested it, but it should work ;)
@MCrex007 you don't.

Would've been easier to take the shot in front of a greenscreen. then use a chroma keyer to remove the background.
