this reminds me of when i played campaign i was playing as sparta and only had one city left with over 50,000 troops took nearly 3 years (no real years just in the game) to destroy my city and army. seeing this makes me want to play it again.

Its not so difficult to take down a big army with a small army of elite units. Aim for the commander and kill him, and you have won. The rest of the units wont know what to do and will fall to your units very quickly, not to mention most will flee.

What Caesar did was take a roman legion to conquer and unify the Gauls under rome (in this case romans invading barbarian territory). In the other case, celts are the ones INVADING Rome (vice versa). Different Circumstances, i should think....

hey i just found out: Macedon never defeated Sparta, sparta was just excluded from the League of Corinth, something that Philip II formed. Sparta actually fought on the Roman side during the Punic Wars, and lasted at least until the Visigothic invasion of Rome. Of course, by then, Sparta was not the military superpower that it was during the Greco-Persian wars. so, no, macedon did not completely defeat sparta, but macedon and thebes was the reason Sparta became so weak.
