@daligoddess2006 Apparently there are those that need to take the "recreating myself" more literally and get right on it! Nice vid Dali, thank you from those of us that are smart enough to watch the video and understand exactly what it requires to do the project and get tired of listening to people talk. Not my taste in music but enjoyed the vid just the same.
This was the first video I've seen where someone has shown how to put the plaster strips over the lips. I'm planning on making my own mask in the same way. Thank you for demonstrating.
I want to thank you so very much in providing this video. I was very anxious in having to do a mask of my face for a sculpture project. My teacher made it seemed so daunting! I am so glad I searched and found your amazing video. I actually had a good time doing it. I listened to your video (and that great music) while applying the plaster strips to my face. I am recommending this video to the other students in my class. So thanks so very much.
@P3G4S1S For this mask, I think I use about 1/4 of the roll. You can use as much as you like. It depends on how strong you want the mask to be and what you plan to use it for. Although, you do lose some detail of the face if you make it too thick.
Your mask is amazing! Thanks so much! This video really helped me in my project! The music is amazing, as well! I see it's from rmrgirl but where can I find that particular song nostalgia? It's beautiful.
this looks exactly like what i want to do kind of. I want to do this. and use maybe a laytex on the inside (for non stick purposes) and then maybe like a liquid plastic to have my own custom plastic mask. you think it would work? even smoothness wise?
@TheBlink182Boy It might work, if you make the mask thick enough. The inside of the plaster mask is where I presume you will pour the latex and that part of the mask is smooth, like your face. The outside has the roughness of the plaster cloth. However, I am not certain that the plaster mask would hold up during the latex drying process. I have never worked with latex. I would like to give it a try sometime myself.
Pretty lady and fun too :-)! I like the project, however it wasn´t what I was looking for. I want to make mold of face and this wouldn´t probably work, because the cloth would make the patern inside the mold (??)
@finehomemadewine The inside of the face mask is pretty smooth, like your face, however, I don't think the structure itself would be strong enough for what you are trying to do.
@finehomemadewine You need to use alginate or a lifecasting silicone on the face to capture the detail. There are plenty of good lifecasting resources which will show you the procedure, and how-to DVD's. If you Google 'Lifecasting' and 'Lifecasting with alginate' you should find something.
@vatopr Well each to his own opinion I suppose. The music happens to be my daughter's and I'm pretty sure you already know that, so I know you are trying really hard to hurt my feelings, but you haven't. Go troll somewhere else, because this conversation is getting dull.
Dang, give me a break Drokua89! LOL This was one of my first videos back in 2006 when I first joined YouTube. I didn't know what heck I was doing. The biggest thing I was interested in, was getting all three of my daughter's original songs out there. However, I may do a SHORT, HOW TO video about this process in the future WITH a COMMENTARY. I am getting ready to do a large piece of art which includes these type of masks anyway. On my way to check out YOUR videos now. *laughs*
@Drokua89 Oh I see what you are talking about in the beginning. THAT was an intro song contest I held for YouTubers. Tom Strum won the contest for the best intro song, so of course I wanted to include the entire song in my new intro, right? I was showcasing another YouTubers original song.
@vatopr LOL, whatever. I just looked at the handy goddess's channel. She didn't even join YT until 2010. I've been here since 2006 and this video was posted 3 years ago. I've been "daligoddess" on the internet since 2002 --only because someone had already taken the screen name "daliwoman" when I got my first computer. I don't jock off anyone, I have plenty of original ideas to last me a lifetime. ~Love and Peace
@fuzzzzbuzzzz You're right the intro was too long. This is a very old video and the intro was a tribute to Tom Strum, the guy who won my Music Contest, so of course I wanted to include his entire song. IF I use an intro to my vids now, (3 yrs later) they are super short. Thanks for your comment.
People be careful! Plaster of paris contains gypsum which creates an exothermic reaction when mixed with water. This means that the plaster can get very hot! people have had body parts amputated because they left plaster on their body too long!!!
if you dont wannago the vasilne route, for hair and lips, you can also use olive oil. rub it on, let dry for a couple of minutes before applying, works just as good if not better.
the thickness of the mask ( layers ) depends n the sanding. a fine grit sand paper works best ive found. on parts not ready to be sanded i use powder plaster to finish smooth.
plaster of paris expands (hot) when setting and when set it will cool and retract. Never dip your hand in a pot of POP and let it set. And if you want to keep your mold dont let the mold cover your face competely. It must lay, but not cover your face. my 2 cents.

i dont trust this...putting vaseline on our lips is not good...i suggest using a head of manikin so that it would be way safer and you can see what you are doing....anyway can plaster be sand polished? pls reply
Why do you say vaseline is not good on our lips? That's what people used back in the day before chap stick was invented. If you made the mask on a manikin, you wouldn't be "re-creating yourself" and that's what this video is about. Like the vaseline, all things in moderation, that's the key. I don't now about sand polishing the plaster, never tried it. You could try it, but I would think it might be too fragile for that. Thanks for watching.
Depends on how thick you want it and whether or not you plan to use the inside or the outside for your art work. The inside can be used to make other types of casts and you may want to add more layers to make the outside stronger. I used between 2-3 layers on this one because I was using the outside of the cast as my art, so I didn't want to lose the details.
Some say vaseline is good for chapped lips, others say it is harmaful and can cause a rash on the lips. I say, it didn't hurt me, but it's not like I do it everyday all day long and it's only on there until the project is completed. (15 -20 minutes) You could try a lip gloss if you are worried about the vaseline or have an allergy to petroleum. Sorry, I don't know what plaster custer is. I've only ever used the plaster cloth for this project.
Yes. You would just have to make it thicker, then sand it down. You might even be able to smooth a thin coat of polymer clay on it to make it extra smooth. Bake it following directions on the package (real low temperature) and after it cools, you could paint it white or any other color you wanted.
The video is up. It's called Gettin' on my Masquerade. Oh? The kids come around in Norway on New Years Eve in masks? Do they go door to door like Halloween in America?
Love it and I'm now going to have to do this Also it would be a great project for those who have spouses that are deployed to send to them Ton of hugs Mel
would this stick to a beard? I'd really like to do it, but I've had my beard for over 20 years....don't wanna lose it. Thanks for sharing this technique!
slorge~ As long as you put LOTS of vaseline on your beard, it won't be a problem. I actually did it to someone with a beard before! LOTS of vaseline, or it will hurt when you pull it off.
I remember when you did this to MY face! *giggle* I am always the ever willing participant! :D This is COOLSOME! I am SO honored you used some of my tracks, and I must say, they fit so perfectly with the theme! Love You BTTS!
rmrsgirl~ Yes, I know...I remember and I have the masks now. Your sister brought them back from Florida for me! YAY! I've really missed them. I REALLY miss you! Love you, BTTS! ALWAYS! XXXOOO
Thanks Lisa. Ya know, I did do an arts & crafts thing with kids on spring break at this resort I where I worked and I LOVED it! The kids LOVED me too! It was a joy! Now you've got me thinkin'....hmmmmmmmmmmm
artgirlsreality~ Yep, I have done this before. I did each of my three children's faces. I'll have to show them in another vid sometime. Thanks so much for watching.
I think I would spook myself to create such a thing. I remember doing this with paper mache in grade school and one of the kids who was claustrophobic freaked out during the process.
Um, I loved the soundtrack and the yellow wall with the palm tres. You are such an spark in the dark. I'm just loving your videos.
Natural20Films~ My daughter created the background music in this vid. rmrsgirl. She has a channel here on YouTube. Thanks for your VERY COOLSOME comments. You always put a smile on my face!
Jakey, I hope you're feeling better. Is your back giving you problems? Don't watch the news so much...It's downright depressing. Besides, they repeat most of the same stuff for days on end. xxoo
Wow this looks like so much fun!!! I have done this once and it's really cool to see yourself like that! I'm totally digging all the great music too!!!

would this stick to a beard? I'd really like to do it, but I've had my beard for over 20 years....don't wanna lose it. Thanks for sharing this technique!

slorge~ As long as you put LOTS of vaseline on your beard, it won't be a problem. I actually did it to someone with a beard before! LOTS of vaseline, or it will hurt when you pull it off.

artgirlsreality~ Yep, I have done this before.

Jakey, I hope you're feeling better. Is your back giving you problems? Don't watch the news so much...It's downright depressing. Besides, they repeat most of the same stuff for days on end. xxoo
