You see Turkic and Turkish is different, the Turkic people originated in Western China as part of the Xionghau confederation, they moved West and split into different branches of the Turkic people's, the Turk's, the Azer's, the Kazaghstanni's the Bulgar's etc. they all settled throughout central Asia and Eastern Europe, the Bulgar turks in Southern Europe mixed with the Slavs and became the Bulgarians while the Turks developed outside of this meaning they're different.
I`m Bulgarian and Batak really is something that should not be forgotten. But since then have gone about 130 years and many things have changed. I know many Turks and I have no problem with them I think are very cool people. But if would a referendum I don`t give my vote for the admission of Turkey into the EU. The Turkish government now not democratic.This is not just my opinion. That think many of my friends from Turkey.,to.I like Turkey, but after K.Atatürk democracy in this country died.

About the pomaks are been forced by the Ottomans to convert to Islam by force is not true either. In Islam you can't force someone to believe in to ALLAH, the believing has to come from that person's heart or other wise they are not Muslim. Read the Kuran and it will give you details about converting to Islam. The only time someone can be forced if he/she marries a muslim. there is always two sides of a story. Here, I will not say that Bulgarians were living extremely happy under Turkish rule. However, their conditions were not bad compared to other minorities living under the rule of other nations. So, I can understand that there are some hard feelings of Bulgarians towards Turks. I am a son of a migrant Turkish family from Bulgaria. And I can say that Turks under communist Bulgarian rule before 1989 were in worse conditions than that of Bulgarians under Turkish rule. And I am not talking about fancy stories told my grandfathers and grandmother. I have personal experiences of Bulgarian atrocities towards Turkish minority living in Bulgaria.
There were everywhere churches. Turks could kill all Christians of the balkans and destroy all their churches and monasteries in 500 years! They didnt do this but still they are the barbarians, evil,monsters. And even if Turks were evil they were also killed.
Greek war of independance 40.000 Turks (civilans) were killed. 1877-1878 war 260.000 Turks were killed by russians and bulgarians.

There was freedom of religion,language,culture. Tax was not high, Turks also paid tax. Blood tax stopped in 1600 and the janissaries were very few. Churches were small but other countries had no freedom of religion, and everybody went free to church under Turkish rule. Nobody was a slave, some people had no land and worked on turkish farms but that is no slavery.
There were only massacres in 1876 but the bulgarian rebels had first killed 1.000 turks(not soldiers,civilians died) so it was a revenge and not without a reason. And it stopped, that was a massacre not a genocide. After 1840 Christians and muslims were equel, They were given same rights. and a lot of new churches were buit.
In the middle ages big countries allways conquered small countries. But Ottoman rule was not bad there was religious freedom.
In Europe there was no religous freedom Protestant Europeans killed Katholic Europeans.Millions of Europeans killed each other because their religion. Bulgarians only paid taxes to the Turks, they were free, and the devsirme system existed but only 200 years and every year 2000 children were taken from a christian population of millions of people, that was not much.

About the pomaks are been forced by the Ottomans to convert to Islam by force is not true either. In Islam you can't force someone to believe in to ALLAH, the believing has to come from that person's heart or other wise they are not Muslim. I am a son of a migrant Turkish family from Bulgaria. And I can say that Turks under communist Bulgarian rule before 1989 were in worse conditions than that of Bulgarians under Turkish rule. And I am not talking about fancy stories told my grandfathers and grandmother. I have personal experiences of Bulgarian atrocities towards Turkish minority living in Bulgaria.

Greek war of independance 40.000 Turks (civilans) were killed. 1877-1878 war 260.000 Turks were killed by russians and bulgarians.

In the middle ages Ottoman Empire was the most Tolerant country in the world. Jews were fleeing from Europe and came to Ottoman empire, not because Turks liked the jews but they were humans so they helped refugees from what all religions.

@olbodala In muslim countries, Arabia there was slavery but it was much better than the one practised by Europeans. Slaves were mostly in households and used as soldiers or in harem as concubines but they didnt had to work in a cotton plantation under the hot sun, treated like animals till they died. In Islam slavery is allowed but they have to be treated like a human and freeing a slave is very good thing most muslim owners freed their slaves after some years.

There was freedom of religion,language,culture. Tax was not high, Turks also paid tax. Blood tax stopped in 1600 and the janissaries were very few. Churches were small but other countries had no freedom of religion, and everybody went free to church under Turkish rule. Nobody was a slave, some people had no land and worked on turkish farms but that is no slavery.

There were only massacres in 1876 but the bulgarian rebels had first killed 1.000 turks(not soldiers,civilians died) so it was a revenge and not without a reason. And it stopped, that was a massacre not a genocide. After 1840 Christians and muslims were equel, They were given same rights. and a lot of new churches were buit.

In Europe there was no religous freedom Protestant Europeans killed Katholic Europeans.Millions of Europeans killed each other because their religion. Bulgarians only paid taxes to the Turks, they were free, and the devsirme system existed but only 200 years and every year 2000 children were taken from a christian population of millions of people, that was not much.
Do you know that in the April uprising in (1876) 4.000 muslim civilians were killed by Bulgarian rebels? That in the war in (1877-1878) 260.000 Muslims were killed and 560.000 became refugee by the russians and bulgarians??
