I could of sworn.......I was watching some kind of thing where they were showing each member of 2ne1 i guess training or something and really quickly it seemed like Dara was singing a britney spears song! Can anybody help me out with this?
I totally agree with the maker of this video. Dara has always been the subject of useless rumors on her ability to sing, 2ne1 unlike most girl groups have its members' distinct quality of voice to make the song richer. For example, Miss a fro JYP, this group has four member but unlike 2ne1 they have the same voice quality. If you don't watch them, and know them you can't tell who's who.
And as oppose to her live voice, it is better to get mistakes than not sing at all.
One of Sandara's VERY IMPORTANT ROLE is to HARMONIZE their voices. Listen to their songs. You'll notice that she bridges the power of Bom's voice, to CL's mad rapping skills. Minzy and Dara's voices are perfectly blended most of the time.
i just notice that this girl if you compared her to other three she has a great voice you know what if you try to listen again in the videos she sing difrently in evry different kinds of genre of the song like in one love in concert she sings well in high note when it comes to a happy song like excuse me in the kbs she sings lively and she sings differently every song not the other three you can hear their voices still in diffrent songs
Dara the total entertainer - she can sing, dance, act, naturally funny and easy on the eyes as well and not to forget she is a nice person inside and out. Perfect idol!

Dara does not have a strong voice. I'd say it's more high-pitched than it is strong. She can project but most of the times, she can't; which is her problem. I think Teddy gives Dara songs that are lower than her usual range is to make it easier for her to sing live. I'm pretty sure Dara doesn't trust herself to be able to perform with her usual range either. It's too high for her to control it. She really does need more practice but she CAN sing.

When notes are actually in your range, not above it or below it, you can sing it no problem. Dara's range is clearly high, as she sings her best when she uses her head voice. When she sings softly it's always when shes trying to sing lower notes, which is difficult for a soprano voice like hers. In contrast, Minji and CL shine with lower to mid notes, being altos.

Until she learns to control it, it's better for her to sing at a lower range. Yes, It may be harder for her, but you can't risk Dara cracking during a performance.
@ii2ne1x honestly, it seems like just a matter or her being confident in singing in her range because she can do it. I'd rather risk her voice cracking once or twice than risk her voice permanently damaged by singing too low out of her range. Singing low is not at all safe, because she's trying to push notes her vocal chords clearly can't handle. which can lead to her developing vocal nodes or worse. Whereas with higher notes that are in her range, risk of her losing her voice is minimal.
lol you wrote 3 paragraphs on this. i still think she should just stick with the low notes for now. if she can't control her normal range and force it, won't it damage her voice either way? that's pretty much how Bom damaged her voice too. she couldn't control her normal range, practiced & forced it too much & she ended up getting nodules. the notes she's been singing isn't even that low to begin with, so it's fine. & her cracking all the time isn't an option for her either.
@ii2ne1x there is no possible way to force your normal range...that's why it's your "normal" range the range you naturally sing in, so no it won't damage her voice. Bom has a condition for swollen LYMPH NODES which causes her throat and face to swell, NOT the same as vocal nodules, which are growths on the vocal chords. The notes don't seem low to you, or the rest of 2ne1, but Dara is clearly a SOPRANO. And she wouldn't crack if she warmed up properly before singing.
@ii2ne1x Additionally, giving her parts that are high and actually in her range allows her to become more accustomed to it and develop proper muscle memory to be able to hit those notes without cracking. And no, she can't get accustomed to singing low parts because they're clearly out of her range. Her voice just isn't built for singing low notes.
@ii2ne1x oh and, your voice cracking is not really an indicator of being out of your range, or due to a lack of control. voice cracking is predominantly the result of an improper or insufficient vocal warm up. Just like you have to stretch and do warm-ups before a work out, you have to properly warm up your voice through singing exercises before actually singing a song.
dara doesn't have a powerful voice compared to the other members but she can sing....the fact that all her notes are in the right places....that's saying humbly that she can carry a tune. all she needs is to practice singing from her diaphragm, to strengthen her breathing. all she needs is improvement...that's it. she can sing just don't compare her to the other members.
And esp. the Go Away Accapella. There are times when her voice is often drowned out by the music. But I must admit her fresh vocals are worth looking forward to in performances <3
the one at 02:24 is my favorite out of all the girls recorded overseas. i repeat that one multiple times whenever i watch that episode ^^ love Dara's sweeet voice ^^ then the one at 00:36 too.
