Lee, I believe, did actually play the guitar, since he took lessons on how to play that tune in the film. It was spoken about after wards.
Glad I am not the only one who spotted the similarities in The Crow/ Joker makeup. Since they are both based on mime and clown makeup, it's hard not to notice. There is a similarity in speeches too, but I have seen dialogue lifted from other movies used again and again, such as 'the best trick the devil ever pulled..' The speeches are probably quotes.
I still like to think that after all these years dispite his tragic death. that in some alternate universe Brandon Lee is still alive and is one of the best and most respected actors of today.
Good review. I love this movie. I was only 3 when it came out so I didn't see until it was on television years later and it just changed my life. One thing about the sequels: they're not good as a whole but I really think that Salvation had a good change it plot. City of Angels was meh and Wicked Prayer was just horrid. I'm in the middle on this. Also another thing Brandon and Heath have in common: both were doing movies that were based on a comic book/graphic novel. Plus, they wore make-up!
Have any of you ever looked into the irony that both Brandon and Bruce Lee's deaths share? It's kind of suspicious. Bruce Lee died in the making of the film "Game of Death" in which the character he played was a struggling martial arts movie star that a rich shady company wanted in their pocket, the company had attempted to kill him on the set of a big new film he was making.(Brandon died by gunshot on set, right?) But then not only did that happen but Bruce Lee died while making THAT film,

ow man that part where you talked about Brandon Lee dying put me in a sour mood, but ALSO made me want to see this movie EVEN more, are the 3 sequels at least worth watching? or do they tank? idk what is ur opinion on them?
honestly i thought of the Joker when I saw the Crow and yeah, eerie simlarities
@Animerulez92 'I' who is not the person you're asking, think The Crow: City of the Angels, was pretty good. Except for Sarah...damn brunette imposter...XD
This movie is so awesome.Brandon was perfect for this role. The mood and atmosphere when he is on the screen just rock's. It's just suck's that he died in such a stupid way. If he had lived he would have been one of Hollywood's best actors. RIP Brandon LEE
this sounds like a cool idea for a video game...though we already have the darkness which is already a fun game, but still it doesnt have the charm of this movie.
stop me if you heard this one: Jesus Christ walks into a hotel. He hands the innkeeper three nails, and asks him... "Can you put me up for the night??"
what? I thought it was funny, ps, the joke was in the comic of the crow before the film came out, I saw it in my copy of the graphic novel when he kills top-dollar, the film and graphic novel are way diffrent, but both a fucking awsome
So is 'Ouch...'... from the very same scene actually. Which makes the overall irony of your statement even funnier than it already was. But I can see how that wouldn't register at first, I got it right away. Because I always remember those little dialogue moments/voice inflections in movies.
Really though. There's so much funny shit there. "He hands the inn keeper three nails and he asks..." - "Don't you ever fuckin' die!?"
"Does that hurt?" - "Yes it fuckin hurts!" And of course "Look what you've done to my sheets..." Actually half the movie is comedy gold. Something a surprising number of people miss for reasons I'll never understand.
for the early part of his career, Sting had a blonde crew-cut, bright tights, and Warrior-esque face paint
after the NWO "invaded" (which was shortly after the film was released) Sting disappeared for 6 months, but then began appearing in the rafters dressed as Lee's character, stalking World champ Hollywood Hogan in one of the few longterm goals Bischoff actually stuck with
I loved this movie. If only I watched it on a better network than MTV. To me, this movie is almost like Punisher + Dark Knight, eventhough this came out over a decade before DK. Still a damn good flick and an inspiration for many.
no, from the information I attained, he was shot in a scene that was cut from the movie where Lee walks into the apartment when the thugs are attacking his fiance.
@SWAGshow if I remember correctly, he was killed while they were filming the movie in general when there was a gun malfunction and a bullet tip got stuck in the gun, it was a squib shot, after the incident, the crew thought he was playing dead for a while.
@foxyfoxyfo in the scene where they have lee on the ground and are shooting him. the pistols they used, one of the stupid prop guys had forgotten to drain the primer from the magazine, meaning when they shot him, there was a bullet in the chamber that they had overlooked
Lee was killed by the actor playing Funboy, Michael Massee, but not intentionally. As Swag says in the video, the gun Massee was using was loaded with a blank bullet that dislodged a fragment that went through Lee's spine, killing him.
Some people, such as the creator of The Crow, James O'Barr, says that he was actually killed by a live round, in the gun. As some of the crew had been using the guns for shooting after hours. Alot of rumours.
I realize this is kind of late. But I thought I'd clear it up, he was right. They were making blanks for the film. But when testing the guns they would fire live rounds (on a range obviously). A bullet lodged in the barrel. And was fired loose by a blank. It was on Discovery. It make a lot of sense, really, because you don't go on a movie set with a gun without checking it... several, several, several times. Especially given their scenerio. Be aware: This is what budget constraints can do.
'Greed is for amatuers... anarchy, chaos, now that's FUN!' *Bangs table for emphasis*
The psychological make-up of the characters is identical in every way. Though top dollar (ironic name, given quote; no?) is more covertly insane. This could easily chalk up to not being hideously scarred. Something that would render most with their pathology not to give a damn what anyone thinks. Otherwise their allowed to be more calculated and (mostly) fit in socially. See Mr.Blonde (Reservoir Dogs)
OMG this is my favourite movie. Thank you for reviewing it. I used to have the Soundtrack on cassette tape but it got chewed up in a mates Walkman last year :c. I still have the movie on video though :)
I couldn't get into the flick. I thought flick Rapid Fire when Brandon Lee took on the Chinese mob and the American mob was much better! That was awesome!

I watched this when I was small, don't remember much of it. But yea, Heath Ledgers death reminded me of Lee's death a lot. Funny how the makeup is almost the same too.
its great that This was probably his bst movie, just as enter the dragon was considered Bruce lee's finest movie, and also Heath Ledger now immortalised as the Joker. Great review, im glad u did this one ^^
I cannot put into words how glad I am that you reviewed one of my favorite movies, and I'm glad that I'm not the only one who caught onto the dark knight similarites, heck, I think lee would have done an equaly fine joker as leager, may they both rest in peace

He finished all of it. (Okay not all, exactly) Movie are NOT shot in chronological order (there are obviously exceptions. Including, funny enough:Memento [at least for the most part]. A movie that runs backwards then forwards in parallel simultaneously, making the end in the middle of the two. But thats off track, the point is) During the DVD commentary it is explicitly stated where in the film it's not him, it amounts to very little footage. They should have had some goth tinged music in the score since the creator of the character was into Bahaus,Joy Division and stuff.
TYpe O Negative was big back in the 90's that would have worked.
