  • Love his voice....

  • The most under appreciated American pop singer ever.TY reduxmisc for posting.

  • Beautiful vocal n musical arrangement! Superb!!!

  • The best version !!!!! ever!!!!!

  • A musical instrument.

  • Have you ever heard a solid, great voice like that?

  • Frank Sinatra's fav singer!

  • When Johnny Carson televised his last broadcast of “The Johnny Carson Show” otherwise known by some as “The Tonight Show” this is the one song he wanted Ms Milder to sing to him. I had my granddaughter, made her learn to play this during her piano education. She did not relate at fourteen “why do I have to learn this song?” now she loves it. This ole grandpa knew what he was doing

  • I love his voice...so expressive and so beautiful

  • Vic is my favorite singer. Frank always paid him homage for his wonderful pipes, but the young Sinatra with James and Dorsey, had an equally beautiful voice, and nobody sang lyrics and frased like "old blue eyes".

  • What a singer! I once read the following in a book: Vic had the voice but Frank had the connections.

  • fantastic arrangement, beautiful lyrics and a first class vocalist..what a number.

  • Nice vid

  • One of the most beautiful voices of the last fifty years. Grazie mille Signore Vito Faranola(his real name)

  • listen out for this song sung by DOROTHY SQUIRES it is beautiful.

  • @davidwalsh66

can't find it on youtube, pity.... I would love to hear a woman's interpretation.

  • A truly beautiful classic sung by a great artist!

  • Without a doubt one of the most underrated voices.

  • Rich, magnificent voice, just wonderful.

  • Damone refused to sing the 'stock' songs, the ones that would sell, but he had the best voice on the market, probably still does.

  • My favorite recording of one of my favorite popular songs! Vic Damone had a real voice! It's a beautifully produced sound of excellent quality! If only more of his recordings could be posted on Youtube!

  • Vic Damone is one of the very best.

  • Many years ago when I spent the summers in Atlantic City I was walking the boardwalk and a voice called out to me from the poolside of one of the hotels. It was Eddie Fisher who I knew from summer school. With him was Vic Damone and a lady friend. I had lunch with them, and Vic invited me to a farewell party as it was the last shows for both of them. They were very cordial to me and I was delighted to meet Vic. A real gentleman. We are both the same age now, old!!

  • What good memories. Thanks for sharing!

  • I agree with everything you've said about Laine! And I might add another most pleasant characteristic about his style. It was nice and easy, kickback time, something akin to that quality of music one used to hear in those stay-up-late cafes around the country. I'm so glad that I appreciated the times.

  • You're right, and that's exactly what they are, exchanges of enthusiasms. I tend to forget people might not understand my obviously lame attempts at humor! I'm quite impressed with your musical critiques, by the way.

  • Thanks much. I'm fortunate in that my parents love great American popular music and jazz, so the house was full of Sinatra, Ella, Basie, gosh, you name it when I was growing up. Also, I used to sing and act semi-professionally. Having been a performer, I know how to appreciate a good performance:) --

  • Say, look here. You're really on top of things! But I'm gonna knock you out of the ring yet. Try this hook shot for size. Try listening to Rudy Vallee's version of "As Time Goes By". All right, so you're not interested in that genre. But just try it! Dooley Wilson, move over and make room for Vallee in that memorial park.

  • Where oh where have all the great singers and songwriters gone? We seem to live in a music desert at the moment,if it wasn't for these postings the younger generation would never know how music was meant to be.Keep it coming, loud and clear.Great postings, thanks.

  • I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately it not just "at the moment" but seemingly from now on, forever. I was blessed to grow up with this music, largely as the result of my Dad's influence (he was a long-time Chicago area radio personality whose love was this kind of music, big bands, etc. He knew Vic personally, as he did many of the major artists).

  • The good news is that the young ones ("young ones?!" Hey, I'm only 49:)) DO respond to great music. When I went back to school in my 40s, I had a campus radio show and was able to get lots of my classmates excited about Damone, Tony Bennett, Ella, Sarah, Duke, Basie, Louis, Miles Davis, etc. And heck, they were turning me on when I was 16!

  • One of Damone's best performances. Wonderful.

  • ProTwoAm, I certainly agree with you. I've not ever heard Damone in better voice and the song is so suited to his texture of voice!

Is he still singing? Certainly hope so.

  • As far as I recall, he retired about eight years ago --

  • Thanks for the info. Damone is certainly underrated, given his command of his material and his voice. Share a little info with ya. Cyd Charisse's husband is still going in his 90s. Tony Martin, I believe, was her second husband.

  • I love Damone. It's interesting that he was occasionally knocked early in his career as a Sinatra wanna-be. I find that bizarre. To me, he's always had his own sound and style, and Sinatra said more than once that Vic "has the best pipes in the business." Yep, I think it was in a PBS special late last year that I saw Tony Martin performing, and quite well, considering his age:). Those videos are available someplace on YouTube, I believe --

  • So glad that we're Damone fans! An old wine is never finished until the bottle is empty. So maybe Damone should reconsider retirement. I suspect, however, that the singlemost event that hastened his retirement was the unfortunate death of his beloved sister. And one more tidbit to share with ya. Herb Jeffries ("Flamingo," with Duke Ellington, remember?) is still going too in his 90s and living somewhere in Southern California!

  • What a smooth and "deep velvet" voice he had! Just right for the "mood" of the song. Lovely.

  • "Deep velvet" is just right:) --
