  • Eat, Pray, Love: the book that changed my life.

  • Eat, Pray, Queef!

  • Find".'It`,"Here."`Now``.

    Just""`Copy'`"&`.,Paste.,`

  • Eat, Pray, Love and now seeking Cure! that should be the Title of this book!

    very unstable/uncertain Character!!.

  • most people thaught that she was selfish: first off I dont think so becoz u live one life and should enjoy every moment. and there is nothing wrong with "fixing" yourself first because how can you help or love someone else if you as a person are not able to help yourself or deal with your own problems. some see a shrink, take meds and some travel. nothin wrong with that -she came out less grumpy and more full of life. what's more no one wants to hang around grumpy ,morbid people anyway.

  • ___________________ :-)

  • @smitryan Not threating you but telling it like it is. The truth is that everybody was born in this world alone without a lover. And God and their families were always there.

  • I agree with u on this one @lizark004. @smitryan How is she a b****. Its called self discovery by finding and loving yourself first. Trying to balance her life and spirituality. Its her life and her choice. You can't force someone to marry if they aren't happy with that perticular person. Or control a woman's life and her freedom. You cannot deny her guilt and you cannot deny her pain from her past. Not everybody in this world is not meant to be married.

  • @smytryan yeah i get what your saying but i disagree.. she's a writer it's not her fault her book was liked; and the book was very personal so she pretty much bared herself and you call her selfish and call her a b**** for it. Theres nothing wrong with doing things for yourself you know maybe you should try it. She was on a journey for herself and while she was she also helped one of her friends from Bali by helping her get a house.. just saying have u ever done that?

  • @RealVeracity well, you should have taken into consideration the fact that men and women are different. Women really are more sensitive and they take emotional stuff more seriously than men. In general.

What women are writing is reflection not complaint. People get over things differently and in order to go on, first, you got to find a way to let bad things go.

  • THIS IS VERY NOT GOOD

  • Anyone got the video of the Oprah Eat Pray Love? Please post!

  • I had know nothing of this book or movie, I clowned it while my ex-wife was lonely and asked if i would escort her to a movie. I found it fasinating to say the least, half way through it mt ex was "board' and making noises and vulgar comments while I found myself captured in the venture of this women. I have been on a self discovery venture myself,I`ve asked myself 3 questions. What is more important, Joy Peace or Devotion and What am I doing with my time. Thank you ms gilbert for your memoires.

  • I enjoyed the story and the movie, but I didn't identify with it. I didn't see her as being self-indulgent, I saw an extremely unhappy person who did need to find for herself what her life was about. I wouldn't have chosen her way, but then, we're all different and choose different ways. It doesn't mean I can't appreciate her experiences and how they affected her neither does her story invalidate my own choices and feelings.

  • @Chenoa888 beautifully said.

  • We can't give to others until we have looked after ourselves first, and we can't fully function in society until we know ourselves and who we really are

  • Yes we have become a selfish culture in some respects, but in other ways we neglect ourselves and our needs deep down. I hate the Puritan-ist message where we are told we need to completely deny ourselves, our needs and our desires for other people, when in reality you need balance. You can't give if you're running on empty., it was this self depriving mindset that we were taught for many years actually feeds the consumerist society we live in today- One extreme fed the other.

  • Jeez why all the hating?! I love the book and am reading it at the moment. Just because she rejects Christianity doesn't mean the book is wrong or that her path was wrong. And why all the hating on her need to find herself? American, and British culture demands that we work flat out, constantly striving, pushing beyond our limits, buy all the stuff thats advertised never stop for a moment to take stock, think, breathe, BE.

  • Cripes... the self-indulgence of the 1970s is alive and well, and masquerading as feminist consciousness-raising. Ms. Gilbert's book, no doubt, will become canonical in university English departments across the United States in very short order, as we saw with chick-lit titles like "Fried Green Tomatoes" and "The Color Purple" in the 1980s and 1990s. Why study Shakespeare, Chaucer, or Milton if white feminists with multicultural pretensions don't understand them and don't want to try?

  • @supersporkspank

I'm afraid you're not grasping the "liberal arts". You have to ascribe things, well, LIBERALLY. Like the word greatness. Someone hits the top of the times and they're a "great" writer, see? Shakespear, Chaucer or Milton weren't in the business of kissing anyone's ass with their searing insight. That's simply not "correct" of the time. And we both know what kind of "correct" we're talking about. The kind that elicits verbal abuse should ye dare not subscribe to it.

  • @Hzqi I think we're on the same page, as we both recognize the mediocrity and totalitarianism of political correctness. Nobody's going to read Alice Walker or Elizabeth Gilbert fifty years from now unless they have to for academic credit, but people from all walks of life are going to continue to read writers like Shakespeare and Chaucer because in doing so, they vastly improve themselves as readers, writers, and thinkers.

  • I saw this movie yesterday and I have to be honest, I was expecting more from it. Julia Roberts did look beautiful, but I found that the movie was trying too hard to be profound but nothing said was profound at all to me. I enjoyed the scenery but the movie as a whole was a bit boring for me. In my opinion this move lacked depth considering all the spirituality that was taking place. I was expecting to be inspired to leave my life, experience that journey...but I wasn't.

  • i can't even wait till Tuesday to get the cheaper ticket......i have to see this movie TODAY!

  • I don't know and don't really understand about you guys, but I think I really love this book and the story. It so amazing and I really adore it. She puts all her feelings, emotion to her story and that's really impress me. Just like adrianavioline said, yes it is a self-discovery story and really important for those who feel disagree. I hope you guys can understand it. :D HAVE A NICE DAY

  • in my opinion, her book is a self-discovery. Everyone can see that, even though some people don't agree with it. I consider her book a fascinating story! She put all her feelings, thoughts, emotions, experiences in her creation. She is an original writer. Don't try to compare her character with the other characters from different books, because it's nothing to compare with." Eat, pray, love" is a book that helps you to discover your feelings. Open your mind and your soul and you'll understand it

  • @adrianavioline I agree and it's sad to read some of the comments and feel that I'd be burn alive if I dare say I love men that cook... my father does, so does my brother ... my ex husband would make pasta for me and it felt wonderfu.l... Remember the Age Of Innocence??? Michelle Pfiffer??? Traped in her own marriage?? If I could I'd travel to overcome all the pain, not to run away, but to face all fears, like Gilbert did.

  • @CmKota

Why the hell would you be char-broiled for liking men that cook? You need to seriously hone your observation skills if you think that's what western men are universally fucked right off about. No, what they're fucked off with, is being constantly bombarded with negative messages about themselves, no matter what length they go to in pleasing women while retaining their testicles. While women reserve themselves the right to celebrate self-indulgence while SHITTING on men who WORK HARD.

  • @Hzqi ...hard work does not = love... I worked very hard and yet I was left with a 4 year old, not because my ex is bad or anything , but he was not in love with me and couldn't take it anymore. After we broke up he travelled... and tried to find answers. we have a very good friendship and he didn't shit on me, he gave me a chance to find true love and not just some payment for hard work.

  • stupid movie lol

  • I think I'm gonna vomit. This woman is so shallow and selfish, she makes Lindsay Lohan look like Florence Nightingale.

  • @grlsprep How the hell is she selfish?! When it's your life, your happiness is first. When it comes to relationships, most women do things for their bfs/husbands and we're all entitled to do whatever we want to be happy. We're entitled to sleep in and eat and watch 5 movies that day without feeling guilty, instead of doing things for your husband.

  • @natoli90

Yes, and husbands are entitled to not risk life and limb to support an apparant generation of narrow-minded hags that think everything is about them, and only affects them. The women that do the most complaining (like you) are usually the ones on a mission of COMPETITIVE CONSUMPTION. They will fumble desperately for ANYTHING they can be occupied with to achieve a reason to complain that "a woman's work is never done". No, a woman's standards are never satisfied. Big difference.

  • i love her and her book was beautiful, and i think julia roberts was good for the part even from just seeing th trailer.

  • Theres a lot of haters out there= Envious.

  • @lizark004

= not sold out on psuedo-spirituality served up tp the masses for profit.

  • That's right... a very personal and transformational experience isn't really worth a shit unless one can make some serious bread off it. What a a load of superficial self-indulgent crap. Perfect for Oprah and her legions of lemmings.

  • what a completely self-indulgent, narcissistic piece of junk. " Me, me, me, I don't like my marriage so I'll just leave for Italy"

She even found a new husband. A better one that cooks and cleans for her selfish ass.

    What a bitch.

  • @smitryan so? if you felt the same way, you'd probably want to "find yourself" as she did. no ones saying, go to india, or bali, for self discovery. she found herself that way and ended up happy, even with the cooking and cleaning husband. maybe you'll find your way differently. :)

  • @smitryan How is she a b**ch? What would you call a MAN who finds a woman who cooks and cleans for his ass? People tend to attract into their lives those ppl and circumstances that will fulfill their needs/desires. The author acknowledged that part of her that needed to be "babied, taken care of"; she found a new husband whose CORRESPONDING inner need to care for a woman is satisfied through the meals he cooks for her. It's a perfect fit! Cooking for her makes him HAPPY, don't you get it?!?

  • @writerforlifeify well, for a multitude of reasons.

    1) She needs a man in her life to define her and make her happy, ( even though she loathes this about herself )

    2) She's a opportunist, much like most women.

    3) She's a poser, ( I want a yoga guru too !!! )

    4) Much like other women she needs a man to introduce ideas to her that she then makes her own...

oh, did you hear Julia Roberts is a Hindu now ?!?!?! Gag me.

Have you ever read " Madam Bovary ?" I suggest you read it.

  • @smitryan 'Madame Bovary' is a fear-driven book written by a man who punishes his heroine for revolting against the banality of her life as the wife of a provincial doctor. Flaubert's understanding of women is as myopic as yours apparently is. Anyway, the character itself is a metaphor intended to chronicle the author's own ill-fated search for transcendence; Flaubert even said it was an exercise in self-examination. Have you read 'The Awakening' by Kate Chopin? I recommend you read THAT!

  • @writerforlifeify

It's actually a time-tested testiment to the mind-set of women like Ms. Gilbert.

I have not read Chopin but have always meant to.

How can you deny that Gilbert doesn't have the same exact mindest as Flaubert's Bovary ?

  • @smitryan I don't want to draw comparisons between Gilbert and a fictitious character. Btw, Chopin's protagonist also rebels against the shackles of her marriage; she does NOT define herself in terms of her roles as a wife & mother. Ok, so her personal 'awakening' isn't recognized/supported by her 19th C. world--won't spoil it for you--but she develops a consciousness that distinguishes her from ALL her friends. In REAL love, no one is 'defined' by another. You are opened up, brought to life!!

  • I'm reading the book right now!

    its sooo good

    everyone should read it.

Its so incredibly funny and interesting how she travels to 3 different places

and experiences many things that lead her

    to discover herself.

  • the interviewer is kinda creepy!

  • I have the same urge in myself....to step up and do the same thing... but i dont have enough money or things to sell ro afford the jurney...i just Hope someday...i will be able to do something like that for myself, on my own.

  • @ninakf, how is it? I'm waiting to get it at my library. Can't wait for the movie!

  • I am reading this book at the moment :D

  • Thanks.

  • Dwnlad this in awesome quality now just Search Google 'TheNewsBuzz"

  • i'm a man n i'm reading it it's just interesting book actually when u start to read it u cant stop till u feel fainted and sleepy

  • i love indonesia, of course Bali is the best place

    :D :D thank u Julia,

    i hope u enjoyed here

  • I want to do something like that, I've always wanted to experience different cultures, especially India.

  • aaaaah, I wonder why I got thumbs down... I bet those whinging pathetic creatures like this one talking her thumbed me down... bless them. More of those please... it makes me laugh :-DDDDDDDDD

  • Hmm. I traveled to all those places in the 70's. My experiences were so different than hers, though I could appreciate the memories evoked by her journey. Her experience came from a very affluent position; for example, the yuppie ashram she visited was nothing like the austere ones to be found. All the gluttonous eating in Italy; the pseudo-spirituality in India & Bali detract from the journey of awareness.

But she is making a mint off her book and next a movie so that is her path as a writer.

  • 1,000 thumbs up.

  • i love indonesia,,,,

  • Kanazef, you are 100% right, didn't notice it, it is "I" "I" "I" - Italy, India, Indonesia!!!! WOW, she is nutts this woman!!!

  • Oh my dear LORD! Check how many times she says: "I, I, I, I, me, me, me, me, my, my, my, my, I, I, I, I" What a pathetic creature she is, sooo self absorbed. No wonder she feels depressed and suicidal. No interest in anything/anyone else! Just herself.

  • the interview is about her book which was about her prossess of finding herself so of course she is gonna talk about herself! Next time you criticize and judge a person, make sure your sources isn't from 4 minute and 30 second video, and consider the topic of the source

  • @Bublinkary It's an interview smarty-pants, that's the point.

  • @Bublinkary exactly

  • Commercial crap !

She lost the purity of what she was doing, she is a sell-out.

  • can't wait to see the movie.^_^

I love BALI I hope some day i will live there.........

  • BALI/indonesia love ur to :)

  • Sorry to disappoint all you gullible arm-chair travelers, but

I've lived in Bali, In Ubud specifically for over 25 years and Ketut Liyer is well known as Ketut Liar--I'm laughing at all the stupid crap he fed her especially the bell. the Balinese are all laughing all the way to the bank especially Pak Ketut. I have to hand it to him--he knows how to run his BUSINESS ha ha ha ha ha ha ha hah ahah ahahahahahahaha

  • luv Bali

  • It was a pivotal read for me..Its such a beautiful book fr ppl who are deeply sucked into da superficial n materialistic vacuum of da world who yearns to know wats spirituality n divinity are all abt and getting to know oneself,intrinsically..The value of the book is priceless..read it..

  • why must "I" cauntry?.

  • what do u mean anyway ?

  • I was in Rome this week and saw them filming the movie version of the book with Julia Roberts.

  • Comment removed

  • yet another new age crochet and craze by a pseudo-literary hack

  • wow, bali,,,

    Land of my country,,,

    ^^v

  • thats so cool !

they made RIGHT decision choosing Bali Island.

Indonesia must be so proud of it .

  • we are!! but one thing that disappoint me.. students in a school are asked to get out of the building coz the director said they'll be a disturbance so the students in that school hav to study in another inappropriate building..

  • Eat, Pray, Love is a wonderful book about a transformational experience that very positively changed the life of it's author, Elizabeth Gilbert. Like all experiences in life, you will get out of it what you need and what you want. She is dealing with self-discovery and working through the reasons for her failed relationships in the past that might be too "chick lit" for some. But, she's one of the brave ones who took it upon herself to discover who she is and what love and life is all about.

  • @LynneOvington

Just finishing the book now and really it doesn't feel like chitlit to me..... I really really connected with the person she is in the book.....middle of a divorce.....fascination with Italian..... felt at times like it was a little too close for comfort.... :-) Wonderful book but also one that I can see that many would not relate to....

  • I am going to read this book, I hope it doesn't turn out to be another bad investment.

  • No, it won't be. The book is so beautiful. They way she describes the places makes you feel so good and somewhat jealous because she gets to experience something so amazing. My point of view :]

  • she put intial for " i " i = italy, india, indonesia..! indonesia is one of beautiful country in the world...and bali island is the god island.. :) hehe :) !

  • Delusionally self-obsessed mind-chatter marketed as Hollywood film bait. Her ashram experiences reveal text book egoic self-deception. Her constant whining and self-reference say self-obsession NOT self-reflection. Her financial generosity nothing more than Western hubris leaving recipients with precarious future AT BEST. And ALL THIS to arrive at cant live without man/romance? please.

  • The saber gores vacuity on sight. Well done. Would have been perfect if you'd a had some blade left for the saccharine, fake smiley smarmy grotesquely unctuous infomercialette character played by Kimberly Austin.

  • This whole trip was planned ahead of time by her publicist.

It's spirituality for sale, a spirituality of self-indulgence.

  • how did you know this?

  • It's on her website, but I had also read that before I saw it there. I give the reference in my online article on this book on my site but I don't think I can put in links here.

  • what's she doing now?? is she still with felipe? :O

  • i'm glad that she includes indonesia in her book

  • She's so interesting.

    xo- Astrid

  • I am a bit behind and just reading this book now. On Indonesia--the final chapters. It is a great book and Elizabeth is a good, captivating writer. So glad I discovered it...if even a bit later than the rest of you.

  • the woman conducting the interview is creepy.

  • really..theres going to be a sequel?! how great. she DOES write soo well! why oh why does julia roberts ahve to be in it.!oh god no!

really like the book except for whre her and her friend say "gently" to eah other "homo."

she should see the Laramie Project.

  • fordiaz1.. Is it true that Balinese always try to rip people off?

  • Bullshit book, Ketut Liyer is lier man. You know what cos Im Balinese i knew this book talk about medicine man name ketut Liyer, Listen I was there and He was making money of tourist by saying the good thing about this tourist, said that you will be rich, you will reach until 100 years old and the end of this healing you get rip off for 150-200 US$. Ms, Gilbert Im sorry when you went to Bali, you also got ripped by your guide coz that guide you hired was ketut liyer friend who rip u.

  • and who are you? Another guy asked by Ketut Liyer's medicine man rival to bad market him?? People are aware of what they're doing.. so take a good care of your heart and soul, get some life out there and of course. stop cheating to your girlfriend. You are sick, man!

  • Hi I've read your book coz my girlfriend bought your book. About Eat, Pray, Love. And first of all I would inform you that Im balinese, Im from Denpasar-Bali and i knew ubud so much, and when you talked about the medicine man Ketut Liyer, no disrespect but He is Bullshit, He is a lier.He tried to sell painting for 200 US$ which is you can get in local market for 30US$. Becareful if you are tourist and u go there, ur guide and this old man can make money out of you

  • I heard a lot of talk about the book via tv. Bought the book, am loving the trip that Liz is taking me on. Am also learning about myself and my quest for spirituality in the process... Have to say I love it!

  • ahahaha: I totally knew, when I was sobbing on the bathroom floor at 3 o'clock in the morning in total suicidal despair that one day Julia Roberts would be part of that. -

She's so funny I can't read it at night not to wake up the kids.

  • thsi book had been talked about a lot!! so i figured why not and read it! and omg! i'm so glad that i did! she is amazing person and it seems as if she has a great sence of hummor! well... can't wait til her sequal in 2009!

  • I am a huge bookworm and my recent visits to book shops eat, pray and love have caught my eye! I wanted to buy the book, but then at a library found it and read it. I would have to say this book is an AMAZING NOVEL! I've never had such an erge to read a book before like I did with this book. It's funny, entertaining and spirtual! Sadly, being a huge Oprah fan I didn't see the show when Elizabeth Gilbert was on, but whoever is reading this.. please pick this book up and read it. It's amazing!

  • I cant wait to get the book. I especially cannot wait to see Julia R. in this movie! I have heard great things about the book! I especially am fascinated with the Bali experiences.

  • Here's a thought: Stop working overtime. Pick up some fresh ingredients at the market.

Go home and prepare a simple, yet delicious meal together as a family. Pray over it together as a family. You will enjoy the love and fellowship of people you already have in your life!!

  • This is a fantastic book. I read it this summer before, during, and after my month in Italy.

I can't wait for her next book!

The interviewer in this clip annoyed me a bit. Has she just not read the book or is she always vapid?

  • What the hell? I was born and raised in India. Indians like Indian food. We don't have to go to Italy for pleasure. we don't stand with cows on dirty roads to become spritual and we gave the world the Kama Sutra. I hate authors like this who bullshit to make millions.

PS. If any ladies want to learn about prayer and love contact me. I promise you Yoga, Kama sutra and spicy indian food will change your life forever.

  • Did you even read the book before you went on a mindless rant?

  • I saw the show on Ophra and I have seen a few videos of the author reading the book. I don't like the authors attitude. I don't like the picture that degrades India. And unlike you I don't have the time to mindlessly read books that mislead people. Make it your holy book if you like but stop spreading your gospel. We have enough problems in the world.

  • Whew! Take a chill pill! Hard to make such a hard judgement on a text you haven't even read yet.

  • I borrowed the book from a friend and read it. I didn't like.

If you get divorced, you know what to do. Don't forget the Bali bombing. Choose a different destination mate.

  • @ videofetcher

u certainly haven't read the book! even i'm inidan but she certainly knows more about yoga, spirituality than me. i'm afraid my friend if we indians don't practice spirituality and yoga like we used to do, in a few decades we will be taught that yoga was discovered by americans or europeans.

  • What Indians need is more quality education that works in the real the world. If we can't read or write English we cannot write books.

  • now u are off topic. i was talking about yoga and u jumped on education. i never told indians don't need education. did i? anyways i will not disappoint you. u seem to have too much respect for a language whose majority of roots have been borrowed from sanskrit. by the way who said one can get educated only in english?

  • 1) Education influences the way people perceive spirituality.

    2) There are more than 800 languages in India. I respect all the languages of the world. English has become the language of choice globally because of the British empire and the American dominance.

    3) Sanskrit is just one of the Indo-European languages. Majority of English words were borrowed from Irish, French, Latin and Greek. Some of these languages are Italic. Sanskrit is a Indo-Iranian language.

  • i love video fetchers comments!

  • fantastic read.

  • its funny how most peeps i know go to america to find themselves and she leaves to find herself. looks interesting indeed.

  • what country do you live in?

i'm curious as to which nationality goes to America to find themselves...

  • arnold shwazzneger , most people who dont live in U.S . its the land of the free isnt it? and i live in england.

  • this is a good book,...

  • This book has changed my life.

  • this is the most beautiful book i've ever read, im so glad it's going to be a movie!
