But cynicism aside, like I said, they were trying to copy the Disney formula with characters that were and felt out of place, looked out of place, the song and dance routines that would become a blessing and curse on future Disney films and over the top villains.

I personally believe that they made them talk and introduced new chaacters because I think they wanted the franchise to move forward into the 20th and 21st centuries.
