it was sammy and the manager's idea to not have a cloth or tarp behind the stage. they wanted the fans all around them to view the stage. as sammy said in red, those extra 2500 seats were pure profit. he also wanted more interaction with the fans too.

I like Sammy, I like Van Halen, but it's kinda like ice cream and steak. They're both good, but not together. I got no problems with Sammy singing the Van Halen classics, but the music kinda went downhill starting with 5150. JMHO.

I was in 11th grade and saw this show in NJ, 1st show of 4 sold out shows. Incredible show. Sammy was great with them, so much range, played guitar. I love both VH's. Two differrent styles of the band, both great.

@1pick2sticks Yeah dude! This was officially my "First Concert"...though I only saw it on tv. This was origionally aired on HBO or some cable channel. I was 14 and my little bro and I planned for weeks to see it on the night of the premier. God, we weren't disappointed! One of the best shows ZI've seen, even if I wasn't there in person.
