I think this cover is excellent. It's not at all like the original or the acoustic versions here on Youtube (and I like some of those too ), however your version has this wonderful mellow r&b feel mixed into to it that I just find really endearing. Love this version! Wish it were longer and had a download link so I could listen to it on replay in my car...

It was probably a talkbox. They work different than a vocoder, and you can actually understand the words most of the time.
