First of all, those trees weren't even old-growth -- they were planted by the University when the stadium was built, therefore the University had every right to do with them as they see fit.

Secondly, for every tree they cut down, the University will plant two saplings and a mature tree.

Lastly, most, if not all, of these tree sitters didn't even go to the school, and many didn't even live in Berkeley or the Bay Area; they're essentailly professional protesters, not to mention TRESPASSERS.

I understand the tree sitters point of view and agree with some and maybe most of their values, but it is University property, it's none of their business, the trees have no role whatsoever in the ecosystem, they detract from the aesthetic of the stadium, and they are going to plant three trees to replace each ugly one they cut down. This will help recruiting, and the rest of the renovation will make Memorial Stadium a much more pleasant place to watch a football game.
