  • What English syllabus are you on? From this I'm guessing AQA Love Through the Ages?

  • Lol the bible, read the book of revelations its mad

  • 1,3, 6, 9, 10, 24...definetly need to read more books from this list, they seem good

have you read Perks of Being a Wallflower? I just finished it yesterday and really liked it and now can't wait for the movie

  • im going to try to read all these books... thanks

  • I've read nearly all these books lol and i didn't like a large percentage of them

  • 5, 7, 9, 16, 24!! <3... read parts of the Bible o-o 35, 42 and omgosh i barely read o-o

  • If I were to recommend anything, it would be Karin Slaughter's first four books called Blind sighted, Kisscut, A Faint Cold Fear, and Indelible. Great mystery books, kind of graphic but amazing books.

  • omg the hobbit movie! we get to see legolas in 3 fricken deee!

  • The Subtle Knife is the second book, and the worst in the series. The Golden Compass is the first.

  • I've read 7 of those :D

Unless you count hp as 7, then I've read 13 .____. And part of some other ones

  • 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14-20, 24(partially), 25, 26, 29,36, 38-44, 46, 47, 50.

Wow, I wasn't expecting to have read so many. A third were due to school assignments; but the rest were the result of a home-schooled bookworm with too much time on his hands. My favorites were 'Jane Eyre' and 'Pride and Prejudice' or anything by Austen and the Brontes, really.

This gay boy was apparently waiting for a brooding, British gentleman of means to awkwardly come to terms with his love for me.

  • omgggggg your accent. teach meh?

  • You sound like Ed Milliband.

  • You should read another things like The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe or Other Voices, Other Rooms and In Cold Blood by Trauman Capote, that's are pretty good books too.

  • I've read 42 out of the 50. I enjoy being a literature nerd ^.^

  • Any list of the 50 best that doesn't include the Iliad, Crime and Punishment and One Hundred Years of Solitude is, in my opinion, entirely crap.

  • @es4331 It doesn't include Verne neither.

  • 1, part of 3, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, part of 13, 15, 16, most of 17, 18, parts of 19, 24, currently finishing 38, 49, 50

    17/50

  • 2, 4, 10, 15, 33 & 35.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is not in here :(

  • how can madame bovary cannot be there. Its like the best book eveeer

  • The Subtle Knife isn't the first book in His Dark Materials...probably why you didn't like it :P

& I read 9 of them. I suggest the Life of Pi for anyone interested in a book that will make them think

  • 1 5 9 10 16 18 24 29 42 and 43, 10/50 yeaaa(:

  • I tried really hard to focus on the screen behind you to figure out what was playing.

Basically, I didn't hear a word you said.

  • 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, 19, 24, 27, 29, 38, 39 (classic science fiction YES), 41, 46

That's 20! I can't say I enjoyed most of them ... I do strongly suggest War of the Worlds.

  • I've read all 50 LOL including the whole of the Bible wow I'm an EPIC Nerd x.

  • 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9 (if you haven't read it yet, DON'T), 10, 12 (you NEED to read this), 13, 14, 15 (great book), 16, 18, 19 (did you hate these as much as I did?), 24, 28, 29, 35, 37, 38, 39, 42, 43, 45 (READ THIS!), 48 (another must), 50

    24/50. Not too bad.

  • @Burgandyandgold777 Your comment is perfection. I shall read the ones you say I must! :D x

  • @Burgandyandgold777 Ohmygod 9 (Lord of the Flies) was probably the worst book I have ever read. I second. Do not read #9

  • wuthering heights was the worst book i ever read! i wish i could forget about its existence...i wish it just never existed...i dont understand y ppl like it...it made me horribly depressed

  • I've read.... 1 3 4 5 6 7 9 10 12 13 16 17 20 24 25 27 28 29 35 37 38 41 42 43 44 46 47 48 50 so...... 29/50. Damn, I'm a nerd!! But I got an e-reader last year for my 15th b-day, so I get most of them for free anyway.

  • Also, you should totally read The Great Gatsby, and definitely watch John Green's video on it. All of my love <3

  • but the Subtle Knife isn't the first one~~

also, Yay for Oscar Wilde :D

    I have read: 2, 8, 9. 10, 12, 13, 16, some of 19, 24, started 25 and I'm reading it for my uni course next term, 27 (SO.FREAKING.GOOD.), 29, 33 (ugh. Never again.), 38, 44 (NEVER. AGAIN.), 48 and 50!

    So that's 17/50 :)

  • 24/50. That sounds good, but I'm an English graduate student, so it's disappointing. I need to get on that.

  • i've read5, 7, 18, 24, 27, 31, 39, 42, 44 and 50. i've got 13, 29, 41, 43, and 47 that I plan to read, see they're on my ipod. and i don't do english for a-level so i feel pretty proud at having reading that number, though measly.

  • I highly recommend you read The Scarlett Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorn. If you think the modern literature on love is original, you have to read this book :)

  • 11/50 D: Lord of the Rings 1984 To Kill a Mockingbird The Lord of the Flies The Great Gatsby The Diary of Anne Frank some of the Bible Harry Potter some of His Dark Materials The War of the Worlds Memoirs of a Geisha
  • Awww Your lucky... My Christmas break isn't until the 21st of December -.-'

  • 12/50 so so-so only. Would love to know what you think of Mercedes Lackey's "The Last Herald-Mage" trilogy. It can be found (with difficulty) in a one volume edition. Separately the titles in order are: Magic's Pawn, Magic's Promise, Magic's Price.

  • @ctp2067 They all sound great! I'll be sure to check it out!

  • OMG the picture of dorian gray is sooooo good! i love oscar wilde too!

  • Did you see the trailer for The Hobbit yet? I'm so excited :D

  • @NeebasAndAyirhs YES! I'm so excited. #flailing.

  • 0:54 Pandas humping on the computer screen.

  • 0/50 :(

don't get me wrong I read books and I intend to read some of those

  • I'm surprised The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux isn't on that list.

  • @ReasonlessSoulx I'm sure there are more books that you must read, but this list is limited to 50! :)

  • I have read: 1984 by George Orwell, To Kill and Mockingbird by Harper Lee, The Lord of The Flies by William Golding, Hamlet by William Shakespeare, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Bible, The Canterbury Tales by Jeffery Chaucer, Harry Potter series by JK Rowling, The Wind and The Willows by Kenneth Grahams, Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. I may have read a few others..

  • @MatthewConnorMartin - Wow I am nerdy... :/ lol

  • awkward when the first His Dark Materials book was The Northern Lights, not The Subtle Knife (that was second). that may have been why it seemed confusing/rubbish. oh.

  • 12, 13, 24, 31, 38, and 42

I've been meaning to read so many of the other ones though!

  • I need to step up my reading game. Good luck on your new collab, don't over work yourself.

  • I've read none of the books, but I've seen all the movies! Does that count?

  • I've only read 6 of them, and all were through school... 2,5,9,10,12,15.

  • Ok, I've only read like 6 of these. I feel stupid.

  • Wow nothing by Stephen King :( Peace

  • i've read.... 2,3,5,6,7,9,12,13,14,24,27,29,30,31,33,37, and 48! 17 out of 50 not too bad i guess. this is a great idea for a video but who made this list? the new yorker did a similar thing- the top 100 books since 1923 have you seen that one?

  • @smooshie3 I have no clue, it's just on a bookmark I bought! I haven't seen the NY list, oops.

  • @Lepreas haha right so i think the ny one is better... like it has better books on it imo- no jane austen or dickens is always a plus as far as im concerned. you're a handsome man, andrew

  • The Hunger Games? No Hunger Games!? I love that series!

  • I have read 17/out of 50 ^^

  • 18, 24, 29, 48. Lol. Attempted to read several of the others though.

  • You say Austen weird.

  • @bryonyling I felt like I said it weird, but I really couldn't be bothered taking another 4 seconds out of my life to say it again.

  • ....heh, now i know what im gonna do with my beak time......

  • I just watch your videos because I think you're super cute. I don't even pay attention to what you say.

  • I have read 1-10,12-20,24-30,32,33,35-50.....I swear I do like people...I just like books better.

  • @blackfeatherdownhere So basically WE'RE TWINS.

  • Oh goodness, only 12/50. Which I am vaguely ashamed of, considering I have 6 more of these on hand but no time to read them. I checked out the Bell Jar from the library two weeks ago but haven't even been able to pick it up.

  • Any list with a Jane Austin novel should be burned. That woman is the most vile creature to spawn from humanity. Good video though

  • @TheGaySub Oh yes, Jane Austin is horrible and vile. Jane Austen on the other hand writes beautifully and is a wonderful author. Oh.

  • sorry for being such a bitch about this but its not Alighieri Danta its dante alighieri :) .... and...

you are the cutest guy ive ever seen ;)

  • 22/50 not bad for being 16?

  • 1,2,3,5,8,9,10,12,15,some of 18,some of 24,26,29,38,39,41,42,43,44,45,46,47,50. I seem to be going quite well.

Also, you pronounce 'Austen' in a funny way.

  • I've read one of these books. And one of the books in the hairy potter series.

  • GAHHHHHH I love The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time!!!!

  • Parts of 1,7,18,19,27,29,and 47 and all of 2,4,5,10,24,and 42. I own The Count of Monte Cristo but I haven't finished it yet =[

  • 1,3,5,6,7,9,10,13,15, parts of 18,24,30,31,43,48,50. I want to read the other ones on the list sometime in the future :D

  • Whats up with the silver list? I've read some of the books, and taken away a list. :)

  • Subtle night of his duck?

  • @fingers7dials of "His Dark Materials". I mumble, sorry.

  • I've read 25 of those. I would also add "Maurice" by E.M. Forster to that list. It's definitely my favourite LGBT-related book. XD

  • 22/50 for me. One of my favorites has to be Frankenstein, I feel in love with the story and with the message too! The Divine Comedy is a masterpiece. And George Orwell is a genius. And I just want to recommend even if it's not on the list The Stranger by Albert Camus.

  • @Luig09

"The Outsider" is another translation of "The Stranger." Same book, so I guess you're 23/50. I'm only at 18. Sigh.

  • Life of Pi is SOOO hard D: I read most of it, but at the end I was just like "....FORGET IT! It doesn't make sense to me anymore."

  • you are a joy to listen too!

  • I fall in love with you every time I hear you speak. EVERY TIME!

  • I'm reading The Lord of the Rings right now.

I had to read To Kill a Mockingbird, The Curious Case of the Dog in the Night Time, and Life of Pi for school, all of which I did not like at all.

I've read the Harry Potter Series and am in Hufflepuff, The Wind in the Willows and A Christmas Carol.

And I'm wanting to much to read the Divine Comedy.

  • Your hair. I missed that shit.

  • @splotchness PERFECT MEME.

  • Have you read any Ian Mcewan books? they aren't classics like most of your list, however I would highly recomend them, especially child in time, cement garden and amsterdam. However if you are easily upset don't read them as the themes can be quite disturbing.

  • If I had your voice, I would never shut the fuck up lol.

  • @DamnTimmy It gets annoying, trust me.

  • I'm at 10, although if I had done all my school reading, I'd be at 13. Soooooooo yeah

  • I read 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 9 10 11 12 13 16 17 18 19 24 25 26 29 38 39 41 42 43 44 50

  • the curious incident of the dog in the night time. is my all time favorite book!! AMAZING

  • I've read 26/50. This will be a good list to reference when I need a new book, though. =]

  • 5, 7, 26, 35 <3, 45, 48

  • omg i've read 19 as well. awesome :)

  • read 5, 9, 10, 26, 17. Hah, I don't read except for what is required for school :P

  • Have you read the James Cavell series that starts with king rat? and has tai pai, shogun, whirlwind and maybe one or two others? I think you may like them. I also heard that James Cavell had something to do with the film the great escape, but m dad could be pulling my leg?

If you read them hope you enjoy them :)

  • I've read 19 haha but half of them are on my to read pile... I just never get to them and read pretty lame books instead because they are easy and generally amusing.

  • We have the same hoodie. My life is now complete. #creepycommentaccomplisedlol

  • Read:1,2,5,8,9,10,12,29,32,33,35,38,41,49,50. Abandoned:18,28,42

  • Oh gawd: WUTHERING(not Withering) Heights

  • Astounding. I'll give it a try! So, I've read: Lord of the Rings/1984/The Grapes of Wrath/To Kill A Mockingbird/Jane Eyre/Withering Heights/The Lord of The Flies/Hamlet/The Catcher in the Rye/Brave New World/Moby Dick/The Wind in the Willows/Frankenstein/Huckleberry Finn/Robinson Crusoe/Catch 22. So far. Better get reading!

  • I just need to say, Frankenstein was such a terrible book to read. Especially in 8th grade, it rambled on and on and on.

  • @brkngbnjmn14 haha I know, generally know if I know the story I skip the originals for that reason :P

  • @oritreesan Yeah, it was nothing like the movies, and there was absolutely no action whatsoever. My teacher actually told us we could stop reading it when we were halfway done because even she thought it was boring.

  • I've been looking for a list like this, so thank you! I just started reading A Woman of No Importance. Yay! :)

  • I got 12/50. That's...alright. I own more of those books than I've read. lol.

  • Looks like quite the party on that computer screen.

  • @BradSoHood I wonder who the party consists of... oh wait.

  • I've never really read anything but i think i will start with the last book you mentioned "A woman of no Importance" :)

  • @markostyme Good! Go for it! <3

  • Comment removed

  • cho chang.

  • @justaddtommy PERFECT.

  • you need to read the great gatsby, it's such a great book.

  • 18/50 <3 I feel like freshman don't read anymore

  • 13/50 and most of them were from my "Advanced Placement English" class. We read waaaay to much in that class. -_-

  • The panda's. Doing it. Oh god. I wish we were more visible because we were so perf. Hahahahaha

But great video Andrew. Mmm books!

  • @haltiamava Panda's Haltia? Really? Pandas. Motherrrrrrrrr.

  • @haltiamava Literally talking to Tommy about to judge you, but you corrected yourself. You go gurl. DO YOU.

  • @Lepreas It's been a long day/night/whateverthafuckhasbeengoingonlately.

  • 12 -_-

though The Picture of Dorian Gray is the best novel I HAVE EVER READ.

    XD

  • @mitchellshimo So, so good. <3

  • I read 13 of the books :) I've read Lord of the Rings, Pride and Prejudice, To Kill A Mockingbird, Jane Eyre, The Diary of Anne Frank, Harry Potter, The Wind in the Willows, His Dark Materials, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Frankenstein, A Christmas Carol, Huckleberry Finn, and The Picture of Dorian Gray.

  • 8/50

  • i love dorrian grey by oscar wild.... best book i have ever read!

  • 5/50 if you don't include the ones read from sparknotes. :P

  • To Kill A Mockingbird is good read. c:

  • 10/50

not bad for a fifteen year old?

  • @Fishy424242 Amazing for a 15 year old! <3

  • 12/50... But seriously, did you say that you thought the Subtle Knife was the first book in His Dark Materials? It's the second one.

  • @LittleCaraBear I didn't even know/care. They're horrible. #sorryimnotsorry

  • I read 7/50 of the books. Maybe during the break, I'll try to force myself to get started on a book. Once I start, hopefully I won't stop.

  • I've read To Kill a Mockbird, Jane Eyre, Lord of the Flies, Hamlet, The Great Gatsby, Catcher in the Rye, Bell Jar, parts of The Canterbury Tales, Harry Potter, Frankenstein, and Gulliver's Travels - so 11/50. Pretty bad for a lit student. Perhaps over the summer I'll read all the others - at least the ones that I won't have read by then.

  • I read 15/50. I've only read The Quiet American anywhere close to recently though. Not surprisingly, most of these I read for classes. My favorite of the list is His Dark Materials though haha.

  • .99/50 i dumb.

  • 7 or 8 out of 50

  • A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens... That's it. 1/50

I read it in school for English class...

I do read! Just not a lot :c But I shall when I get back to college after Christmas holiday :3

  • 6/50. i did better than i thought i would lol

  • omg what's going on on your computer?

  • I've only read 4/50. But right now I'm reading catching fire by suzanne Collins. What are your thougts about the hunger games? Have you read all three books?

  • @gmoney21ization I've read the first and second. Horrible written, good story.

  • @Lepreas agree. The story is good. That's what has kept me reading.

  • 15/50. Goal during the break to read them all. Thanks Andrew! :]

  • @bettyiszepic Them ALL? Damn gurrl, damn. Goodluck!

  • Ive read: 1,3,5,7,9,10,16,18,24(duh), 25,36,39,41,42,43 i would of listed the names but thats too much lol i read 15 out of 50 more than i thought

  • 32/50..... wow, i didn't even realize i've read that much.

  • umm... What is going on at around 1:43 on the computer screen... :| Looks a tad dirrrtayyyy

  • @BDKla I don't even know. They're all mad.

  • 12/50... not bad! question though: have you read catcher in the rye? i'm loving it but my friend absolutely hates it! views?

  • @ProductOfThe90z Me booksta.

  • Yeah I read The Subtle Knife as well... didn't do much for me- could really get in to it. If you are into law thrillers, read some John Grisham- I've just finished 'The Last Juror', it's pretty good!

  • @danfromuk I'm glad we agree "His Dark Materials" is shit.

  • all but 49, 37, and 3! and Oscar Wilde is one of my favorite Authors too!

  • @JEM8288 Holy crap. You're very, very well read! x Goodjob!

  • 11/50. My Intro to Literature professor gave me a bunch of books though so I have like 6 or 7 on this list that I have yet to read.

  • @RevelationWriter I thought you'd do better, your prof sounds awesome :)

  • @Lepreas I hate reading so 11/50 is a miracle in itself for me :P Although all of them have been required for my previous English classes, with the exception of The Bell Jar. I just love Sylvia Plath enough to read the book on my own. I might go buy The Divine Comedy someday, too.

  • @RevelationWriter How do you love writing but hate reading? I don't even.

  • @Lepreas I'm a paradoxical person. A book has to capture my attention within the first several pages or I cannot for the life of me muster enough effort to read it or pay attention to what I am reading. I can read most fantasy fiction books that I find, but that's about it.

  • Only 14.... hrrrrrgh

  • I read 5 -ish :D

  • I've read 19/50! I'm impressed with myself!

  • I've already read 3 of them! :D 47 to go!

    ...gosh.

  • @SamLiive201 We all start somewhere <3

  • Oscar Wilder is also my favorite author. Woo!

  • @melancholicfantasy I'm so glad your opinion on authors is perfect.

  • 4th

  • i've read 40/50 of these. also 3rd
