Jacobize is correct, the Triop you are showing in the video is trying to shed.

When they are unsuccessful at cracking the carapace by thrashing about mid-water they will turn on their backs and attempt to strike it against something hard. If they fail to shed their old shell in time they will die. It seems to become increasingly difficult for them to shed as they grow older and larger.

I would recommend adding some rocks or other aquarium decorations they can explore and use.

To get oxygen in the tank, just simply get a coffee stirrer, clean it out, and stir in fast circular motions all around the tank for a few mins or so.

If you would like to help them get more oxygen, you have two main options:

1. buy an air pump and air-stone. these are bulky loud and costly.

2. change one quarter (1/4) of water frequently. or you can do something different and close to this by taking a measuring cup and taking water out and pouring it back in repeatedly, once a day. this helps oxygen circulate back into the water.

Sorry, but that sounds like a very unintelligent guess. I have a UGF running on both sides. My two aquatic plants have collected lots of oxygen under its leaves, so that cuts out the whole " its out of air!! " cry that most of you, whom never seem to have owned triops are barking.

They are just molting, for the billionth time.

Triops that flip over and start doing little sit-up motions are often attempting to shed there skin. If the water is low on minerals, or if there diet is incomplete they will often be unable to molt properly. In that case, they will die, being stuck in a shell too small.

Had about 6 triops myself and in the end they all had this problem, enough research and apparently, it's a molting (shedding?) problem. They shed their too-small casing, but if they can't they start to twitch and convulse. And eventually die because they can't breathe properly. Sadly, I haven't learned a solution yet so I haven't hatched more.

Marine tanks have a hole on the downside, you need a special filterpump for them, but note, that you should NOT use an electric filter, because they just such the eggs and triops away and would shurely kill them. Use only filters that are driven by air.
