America itself is already a huge country with a huge economy therefore their own local products can sustain and compete. Plus, Americans have an attitude of "buy American". Take for example sports, American Football is extremely popular only in the US but its sort of a multi million dollar business just like real football.
You can google for untaxed car prices which can be found on the manufacturer's website and compare it to cars here (taxed) which can be found somewhere on the internet and calculate using ur math... and when i mean 340%, it means 340% x car price untaxed, example: 100k car x 340% = 340k, not 440k... most of those American car manufacturers is not owned by government, Proton is half private half government... American car manufacturers can only loan from the government...

You're comparing apples with oranges, they're both fruits, or in this case car manufacturers, but they're not the same in the sense of experience and so on. Hence you can't completely compare both of them in certain aspects such as the quality of cars they make in which I do agree that Proton make shits and sells them at prices of gold.
Hence you can't really compare the economy and market of America and Malaysia because America itself has its own huge market whereas Proton have to compete in a relatively small market with fierce competition.
