My family and I legally immigrated to Canada 21 years ago. I remember all that my parents had to go through to get that immigrant status under the law here. It wasn't a pretty sight. As to the comparison to the immigrants who came via Ellis Island -- I am descended from these legal immigrants and, frankly, I find the idea that those who came in the front and followed the rules are the same as those who snuck in during the dark of night deeply insulting. Cries of colour/race discrimination are ridiculous -- the strict, law-abiding Sicilians from whom I am descended are just as dark and non-WASP as these Mexican criminals.

Yes, what the Holiday Inn did to those workers was unethical as hell as well as illegal. I also agree that having all those violations of the health- and building codes is VERY bad business. Still, that DOES NOT CHANGE the fact that these people DID come here illegally. To the list of charges directed at the Holiday Inn I would add the use of illegal labour.

White Mexicans are the elite of their country, they run everything, so you'll most likely never see much of a white mexican working at a fastfood chain in the states. Why dont these people come here legally, is it really that hard. Just go to the US embassy in mexico and apply for a visa. And if you don't get one try europe, canada or australia and new zealand. And you could at least learn english and try to adapt to a culture. I love mexican food and their culture, but if you are in a foregin you have to adopt to their way of life.

After september 11, 2001 the US became unbelievably strict with immigration. I moved here from Canada almost 10 years ago and came here on a Visa granted and paid for by my employer. I applied for Citizenship 9 years ago and havent been granted by green card, or have any hope of getting it soon.

My family and I legally immigrated to Canada 21 years ago. I remember all that my parents had to go through to get that immigrant status under the law here. It wasn't a pretty sight. A lot of paperwork, stress, lineups, money, etc. It's not fair that my parents had to jump through all the hoops to become lawful residents of this country, while illegal immigrants get a free ride in. Yes, illegals are human, and like every human being, they are not above the law of the country they want to live in

Which means everytime they go to the doctor and every year their kids are in school the taxpayer is forced to foot the bill. That's not "Americanism", it's common sense.
