Ted...thank you so much for this presentation. I myself living in Hawaii at the momment, am a firearms owner. My wife is from Auckland and I have always been curious to what the gunlaws are like there. I was very astonished with all your vids and they were great!!! My wife has always bugged me on living there for a bit as well, my only wish was to transport my AK-47s and mossberg 12 ga. there but I guess it aint happening. I salute your determination as an enthusist...thank you again.
Thanks for the vid(s). Very interesting stuff. I remember watching your original 'talking head' video about this same subject. Quick question on your E class firearms, or NFA/Class 3 as we have here in the US. You said that you can only transport them to certain places, and mentioned that you can't shoot them. So did I understand that correctly? You can own them, but are never allowed to shoot them? There isn't a special place you can take them to shoot?
@kiwitedferny That's really unfortunate. I would love to own some of the WWII firearms you have collected, but to not be able to shoot them is a tragedy. Kudos to you for putting so much passion into your collection regardless of that hindrance.
@kiwitedferny I watched all your vids about your gun laws and was wondering why you would go through all the paperwork to own some gun you can never shoot, couldn't you get a dummy/display gun or are those illegal/non-existent there?
You know what I find interesting? You were ok to go carry a gun and defend your country, (and politicians) without tons of paper work. But you are forbidden from defending yourself. To even own the guns you have to face a bureaucratic nightmare. But I'm glad you can own what you do. (for now)
As an American living in Canada I feel stripped of certain privilege as payment for the others I am afforded by the Canadian way of life. Generally, I feel safer on the streets in Canada than I do in the US.
Handguns in Canada have been registered since 1935, the Long Gun Registry, an utter failure, has cost anywhere from $300mil to $1bil (the true cost likely will never be revealed).
"Criminals don't follow the law" is a logic that escapes law makers here.
@ALAPINO You have not been "stripped of privileges". You have been denied "rights". Your right to own weapons is a human right, which no government can grant or take away. (they can only deny it to you, which I consider a criminal abuse of power)
@SmokeRingsPipeDreams I'm going to have to partially disagree with you there. No matter where one's beliefs lie this and almost all things in our western world must be treated, and most importantly fought for, as if they were privileges. Rights assume entitlement-- we, at our most basic level are entitled nothing. We impose these 'rights' and if we do not protect them, as aforementioned, they will be snatched away by an ignorant party.
there trying to do the same shit here in the US......i live in Massachusetts and ammo and guns cant get shipped to here it blows.....the liberals demonize guns because they are afaraid of them they have to be banned because there cry baby bitches.......but damn the laws there are f***** u......there are a few stories of people in their houses who shoot some one and go to jail for it its sooooooo stupid its self defense and you cant shoot the shit bag who tries to take and maybe wants to harm you
Sweet Jesus your laws make the ones even here in California look easy! Thanks for giving me an idea of what the future holds when they make it even tougher to posess firearms. I'm buying all I can afford because they're never going to become easier or cheaper to get.
You can't defend yourself with a gun in california until after you've been killed or shot a few times. They love criminals here.
You may think your laws are pretty liberal, and they might be compared to most countries, but they still sound pretty damn restricting to me. Sounds like if you want to have the most freedom to own, carry and shoot firearms, you need to live in certain states in the U.S.
I think you made a valid point there Ted, in that, those are the laws and we have to abide by them. There's not a lot you can do about it apart from be grateful for what you're allowed. Most people in the UK think we have a total ban, we don't (as you well know) and correct me if I'm wrong but it wasn't until the mid 1990's that we could have SLR's etc. Infact after the recent shooting in cumbria, it was good to not see a knee jerk reaction from government over a terrible tragedy
@Tux3d0 Same story, one of my best friends dads moved BACK here after he went back to the U.K. and the 'sh#t hit the fan. Now he's happy as a clam shooting his AK-style rifles, which is all he'll buy after coming to the U.S. and going to Vietnam. Now it's a "buy them while you can" mentality, even though I doubt anything will happen(still, EYES/EARS OPEN!). Glad to see you guys havent been 'U.K.'d, hope you never do! Really interesting vid's, just subscribed, look forward to more! Stay safe!
Thank you very much for explaining NZ gun laws in such an intelligent and charming manner.
I had no idea that Kiwi's could own anything other than a shotgun.
I am now schooled.
Not that I'm going to move to NZ next week, although it is tempting as it is a wonderful country with gorgeous scenery, I'm told. I will stay living in the US.
Thank you for posting this! Was very eye opening! If you ever find yourself in Kentucky in spring or fall, you should head to Knob Creak. Great MG shoot, and I think you would love it!
Ted, Another great and informative video. I really enjoyed it, just was a bit short, I wanted more!!
An interesting thing, I found myself getting a positive vibe about one thing and then you would say the next sentence, and then it would be a negative. It seems these laws just go up and down and up and down. They give you the bone, and then take it right back. It really must be frustrating. It does make the American damn glad we have what we have. Now we just have to keep it, intact.
Gunlaws in belgium are a little less restrictive. Also using a gun in selfdefence (in/near your home) is not illegal and will not prosecuted most of the time. You will be investigated and questioned, might even lose your firearms licence (very rare) but you will not go to jail.
In Northern Ireland you are allowed to shoot someone that enters your house unlike the rest of the UK. Obviously only if you feel you are in danger. You can also legally carry a pistol (concealed) if you have good reason to think your in danger. But obviously you need to go threw the police and its very very hard to get
Great series, watched all of them. I am very happy we do not have to jump through hoops here. It just does not seem right to be charged with a crime for self defense. Great series once again.
It's to bad NZ polititions feel the need to take away gun rights to make themseves look like they did somthing....when in reality they are disarming only the honest law abiding citizens and making them easy victims!
I have to say that as a Canadian I do feel you guy have better firearms laws but that we have superior self defense laws. Essentially if I feel that I am in danger of death or serious bodily harm(whether it be from somebody with a baseball bat or a gun) Canadian law permits me to defend myself using a firearm(not to mention that it is legal to have a handgun and a loaded magazine in a safe next to my bed). Also we are going to get rid of our long gun registry in about a month which is a plus.
@kiwitedferny Yes if i had one, i will do it in a second, just like you said the guys that follow the law are being shufted and the fuckers that do crime and have fully auto ak's, just go on and kill people. It seems that the law is just there to make my life miserable, and do fuckhol to the crime over here, you can be clad that you live in New Zealand.
It reinforces my conclusions that while NZ and Australia's gun laws are shithouse at least one can still own them if your willing to jump through the hoops. Unlike over here in the UK which is the ban the gun bedwetters paradise
@ZEDZOR2 military training has little to do with anything. The worst gun handeller i've ever brought shooting was a US Army Vietnam vet. Truly horrible. Either a person is a responsible shooter or not. Firearms are a minimal part of many "Professions at arms." Heck, I remember on survivor Ted Nugent, the worst Marksman was a Black Female US Army soldier.
@ZEDZOR2 But you have no problem with ill trained civilians driving 2ton automobiles-the most dangerous thing in society? Thank God I live in America. People like you are why the UK is a third world nation headed for Sharia law. It is sad but you deserve it.
@ZEDZOR2 Just the response I would expect from a socialist who has never known true freedom. If a thug breaks into my house he is fair game, I kill him. I will be exonerated and applauded for doing my civic duty. In the UK same circumstance, I am arrested and prosecuted for defending myself,my family and property. That is fucking insane. My son's widow recently moved back to London last year after his death. She is moving back to the states, she has had enough of English stupidity and cowardice.
@klesmer Im not a socialist at all im actually anti socialisism, im not even going to bother your just a plain crazy war mongering blood lust determinist.Good luck with that.
Good set of vids ted, always enjoy em. There was a shorter similar video on YouTube of a guy sitting in a wine cellar that this reminded me of, explaining the NZ fire arm categories. Cheers mate.
The transportation laws you have about only being able to bring a handgun directly to and from the range or a gunsmith and home are the same as my state (New Jersey). In regards to the full auto shooting, it seems things like that are handled better in NZ. In the US if there was a similar law the ATF would have no mercy.
Very interesting set of videos, thanks for taking the time to upload. The laws do seem like a hassle, particularly the B-class liscence, but it does seem to be just enough of a hassle that it would keep the odd person with a fleeting desire to grab a pistol and get some shooting in from being able to do it. Keeps the guns among the serious enthusiasts.
But like you said, it's the law, that's how it is.
there is a house for sale down the street ( Midwest of the U.S.), maybe you should move. why would you stay in New Zealand if the laws are against your way of life?
@flytyer232 i'm an American who has been shooting in Australia, the UK, and France. New Zealand is quite gun friendly compared to the rest of the developed world.
