It sort of works. The spacing of your drawings in this pattern suggests the ball dropped quickly, which would allow for the anticipated "Squash" before the hit. But as you come out of the hit squash, your recovered shape of the ball is too far ahead. You might want to experiment with your exposures on each drawing to improve the timing, making it smoother.
A particular point of interest is the contact or hit (Squash) drawing. Add an extra exposure or two (frames) there to get greater impact.
@TheSkullranger Select the frames of the bouncing ball (or anything) like that and right-click, flatten animation. Then delete everything but the layers it creates. After that save it as a .gif, put it in any video editing program, even Windows Movie Maker. Then render it as an avi or something, then upload.
Dude, thanks, but I have my volume on FULL, and yet I still cannot hear a thing you say! Please, speak up next time, or buy a better microphone. I'd love to watch this, but 23 mins of barely audible just is unbearable. :(
@unlokia I think he is self-conscious and insecure about what he is talking about. Taking three minutes to get to the point is wasting precious teaching time. Yes, he needs to speak up and use his voice in a way to not sound so much like, pardon the reference, sounding like he needs a laxative. As for the exercise, a solid ball does not stretch in anticipation of the hit. A water balloon would do this due to gravity pulling on the contents. But this is over animated.
Sycra, hello! The reason it may not be smooth because of the brush spacing. Basicly your just making little circles but with a spacing between them causing them to appear ragged. You can fix this by just changing the spacing to 1%!
got the audio problem too Maybe a Flashplayer 10 issue on my side. i downloaded the video and tried offline players and the problem persists. ( i believe it's a question of zeroing the DC Level of your audio track )
i hope (but doubt) that my photoshop elements has the animation option
sometimes i think i should try doing the exercises i see done by AnimationMentor people
this vid made me think of the smash & stretch effect, & i was thinkin about faces & expressions. when ur drawin a realistic style face with lots of expression, do u sometimes find it hard not 2 caricaturize the expression/face? maybe u could do a quick vid of a real style expression then same expression with what u think would b the limits of a realistic version without being a caricature. then finaly what u would consider a caricature of the same expression. :) just askin :)
wow i never knew that photoshop had an animation tab :) pretty cool.. Animating in flash is pretty cool too but those are vector graphics.. Raster has a kind of a traditional feel to it :)
That was really interesting, Sycra. I have a whole new appreciation how difficult it must be to make a full-length animated movie after seeing how you had to tweak the timing and add an in-between step when it looked like it jumped wrongly from that one frame to the next.
Great video & thanks for posting, I can't wait to see of your animation because you're drawing skills are amazing. Have you heard of the animation software, "FlipBooks" by DigiCel? It's great for do line testing & animation also there's a very cool new website created by DigiCel & Jason Ryan who's a DreamWorks animator & they use the software. Continue to post updates because you inspire us with your work.
You mentioned something about Photoshop not being able to draw smoothly. I have a WACOM tablet as well and sometimes Photoshop does not recognize the pen sensitivity so it acts as if it was just a mouse clicking at 100% strength. I can only fix this by rebooting... Kind of annoying when I'm getting into my art groove.
@Bartalon Had the same..I had to open Photoshop using the normal tipclick instead of the doubleclick button and be sure, to wait until it's loaded (and not switching to another window), otherwise it didn't recognize my wacom..

What animation school are you attending???
When you learn FLASH, just don't forget where you started out and don't abandon your viewers who love to watch you draw.
How do you move everything from different layers to the same layer???
vintage1351 1 year ago
AHhh lol drawing the frames take long time without a tablet :( LOL

@mcasual
did some tests, indeed the audio suffers from a DC offset
maybe maybe a broken microphone wire
some audio cards have a microphone setting named "DC Offset Cancellation" that would solve the problem
anyway, using a sound editor audacity i was able to watch a good version of your video ! :)

Wow, this is pretty weird you posted it, considering I've just started my animation course and we're working on animating bouncing balls as a start.
To be honest, I had no idea I could do that in photoshop, so I'm gonna give it a go!
Though it was rather difficult to hear you in this video, you might need a new mic. D:
