  • BOB FUCKING DYLAN, THATS WHO

  • Great Bob Dylan! I love you very much

  • 1 person! you sad sad person.

  • I was reading an article in "Georgia Backroads" about Blind Willie McTell........really cool. This is of course, Bob Dylan's song written about him........love it.

  • According to the U.S. Copyright Office website this song was written by Bob Dylan.

  • Only Bob Dylan can write such a wonderful song, beautyfully played by him and one of greatest guitarist of the XX century, and leave it off an album

  • GOOSE BUMPS

  • que gran tema del gran dylan

  • this is in his TOP 10 - EVER!

  • Power and greed and corruptible seed seem to be all that there is.

As true today as it ever was Bob...

  • Everybody does Bob Dylan better than Bob Dylan.

  • @boru1982 If you said Leonard Cohen it'd be true. Dylan never cared about the sound, it's all about songs and not production. As Eric Clapton said, who used to be session guitarist for Dylan: "You really have to focus cause you might just get one take before recording". It's naked and raw, unlike most of the artists who cover Dylan, bar Hendrix's Watchtower. And did you ever ask yourself how come so many people cover his songs? Yeah, probably cause he's so bad! Lol at your comment man!

  • @666cfc Do Dylan fans use 'Lol' now!?

  • @boru1982 Great arguement man. Just great. Did you check my spelling for mistakes too? What a tool.

  • @666cfc Do I need to check it? Oh,looks like I do after your last comment. I'll leave you to decide which word(s) are misspelt Einstein. And who would want to argue with someone that uses 'lol'!? LOL

  • Perfect video for this iconic song. Thank you!

  • The story of the South, told in five incredibly evocative verses.

  • I've said it once and I'll say it again, irony is the monosodium glutamate of writing. This song is soaked in it.

  • i know no one can sing the blues than Bobby Mc Dylan

  • Makes me cry... fantastic

  • only one word...can discribe this song... = Legendary

  • @busessuck1 please tell your mother she was crap and i want my £10 back, sorry i owe her £10

  • @busessuck1 Fuck off!

  • one of the most beautiful songs even written and recorded. the piano is stunning too. x

  • masterpiece is an insufficient word to describe this song

  • This song is drenched in irony. There's something about this ingredient that takes a song to another place and time. Irony is the monosodium glutamate of writing.

  • Fuckin right! I needed that!

  • @petrewoods yes, this is a derivative of the "st. james infirmary blues".dylan turned it to a "st. james hotel" in one of his most colorful lyrics -> bootleg series 1-3.

  • hearing this song the first time made tears runs, dunno why, its just did. Prbably the best folk/dedication song for america to me really. i just love the energy that bobs bringing forth.

  • Goosebumps just woldn't calm down.A truly remarkable piece of music.

  • got somebudy a tab?

  • only dylan could write such a masterpiece and leave it off an album.

  • @acdcfantic You are right. Only Dylan.

  • @acdcfantic especially when you consider some of the garbage he allowed onto some of his 80s albums - cough* Knocked out loaded *cough

  • @acdcfantic only Dylan could plagiarise such a masterpiece and leave it off an albun

  • @boru1982 It is very common in folk for melodies, stories, and ideas to be passed from one musician to the next."This land is your land" by woody guthrie was taken from an old gospel song melody. Classical music elaborated on old folk melodies. You should know musicians take previously composed melodies and put their own twist on it and call it "inspiration" Every musician you've ever heard has done this to some extent. I'm grateful Dylan took this melody and wrote his brilliant poetry over it

  • @acdcfantic

    Mark Knopfler co-wrote this song...

  • @Dominum No he didn't, Knopfler only produced the album that this song was supposed to appear on (Infidels) he had nothing to do with the songs writing process,Dylan wrote it by himself.

  • @41BobDylan

Well, go read the last article on Knopfler in The Guardian.

  • @Dominum The Guardian I think I'll pass on that thank you. I have no time for newspapers. Knopfler played 12 string guitar on the song but he didn't actually help write it.

  • @41BobDylan

I'm not going to argue with you, cause It's apparently futile. You don't have time for newspapers, so I'm quite sceptic regarding your resources. You probably don't know what resources is. So, whatever.

  • @41BobDylan

    No offence intended...

  • @41BobDylan apparently it's not even knopfler playing guitar, read somewhere he had left the session by the time this was recorded but cant remember for the life of me who is actually playing guitar

  • Well...... You Tube has taken my favorite video off their site. A copywriting problem??? I hope some one can repost this version with just Dylan on piano & Knopfler on guitar.

Where can I get this Bootleg recording?

  • @ohiodixiechick2

most of the dylan links on u2b i once bookmarked are gone or "not available in your country" (i.e. germany).

this is ridiculous 1) because dylan's music is not dependant of any country, it stands on its own (feet), worldwide

    2) if those (idiots) who are responsible for this kind of censorship think i didn't ever buy - my money - one single dylan album, i can tell them they are completely wrong. that's because...

    3) a dylan afficionado like me does even pay before listening.

  • who knew they made music like this in the 80's

  • Fucking great.

  • the photography in this video is stunning, as for the song as well.

  • Superb Flawless Lament/Ode! Thank You Mr. Dylan. I could listen to this 100 times. A history lesson. This is an old song that Bob has rearranged as he most tenderly does, but does anyone know who wrote the original song?

  • He didn't rearange it. it was written by Bob Dylan. Should have been on the album "Infidels" in 83, but didn't make it on the record. The song was later found on the bootleg series.

Dylan is playing the piano, and Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) joined him on a 12 string guitar for this marvelous piece of music.

  • yeah bob wrote it

  • @ohiodixiechick2 woody guthrie

  • One of the finer and more touching of Bob Dylan's songs, in my opinion.

  • Yes, a masterpiece...and a GreatVoice

  • A masterpiece

  • It's not well known because Bob never put it on an album. He didn't think it did Blind Willie McTell justice. It's my favourite. I love this song so much.

  • This is Dylan at his absolute best. An incredible, beautiful, haunting song. I can't believe it's not more well known.

  • This song gives me goose bumps every time I hear it ..awesome !!

  • Nice post joelabero999.

  • Beautiful lyrics. I thought it was a typo when it said this song was from 1983, it sounds so much like his best early work. I guess that's just a testament to Dylan's enduring talent.

  • In 20th century art, I think the closest thing to this is Picasso's Guernica.

  • Leonard Cohen once referred to Bob Dylan as "The Picasso of Song".

  • There still are songs from this extraordinary artist I haven´t heard yet. This is one of them. Absolutely great!!!

  • :O ! This is incredible

  • it's so beautiful

  • Excellent, probably one of my favourite Dylan songs.

The last verse especially is so powerful.

  • Best off 4ever!

  • yes he hes FOOL.

  • Bob rules!

  • fantastic!

  • i'm not sure how reliable wikipedia is so I'll ask here. did bob play piano on this one?

  • cool, thanks!

  • wonder who blind willie is...?

  • "Born William Samuel McTell in 1901, Blind Willie lost his sight in late childhood, yet earned the status as one of the most accomplished guitarists and lyrical storytellers in Blues history.

    (...)

While few of his recordings ever earned mainstream popularity, his influence on the modern music and art scene is widely known. His songs (Statesboro Blues, Broke Down Engine Blues, etc...) have been recorded by famous artists such as the Allman Brothers, Taj Mahal and others. "

  • Way to put Wikipedia to a good use...

  • Bob can stop the time

  • you ve said the most brilliand thing i ve ever heard about bob dylan. i hope he s going to be infinite ,counting on wheather we can be that intelligent to follow such moral leaders or not

  • what was that brilliant thing then? =D

    im curieus now

  • there was a comment by a user from france he said :bob can stop the time .that s all

  • Not really big into Bob Dylan my mate loves him so does my mam , and my hero Noel Gallagher but man is this some tune.

  • Noel Gallagher is your hero??

    jeez im sorry.

  • "See them big plantations burning. / Hear the cracking of the whips. / Smell that sweet magnolia blooming. / See the ghosts of slavery ships."

Those are among the most evocative lines Dylan´s ever written. They sum up succinctly the tragedy of the slave trade and slavery in the South.

  • theres a part in his book where he has shown some lines to bono and he thinks they are not worthy enough or they are too close to what people expect of bob dylan so he puts them away in a drawer to keep the others warmand bono is flabbergasted / dumbfounded when he reads the lines because he cant believe that he would be throwing them away.

  • In my opinion (which isn't worth a fuck) this is one of Dylan's best songs ever!

  • I agree

  • The sequence in "Im Not There" is brilliant, and this song is amazing. What a voice.

  • Then pay attention to him maybe you will learn more about good music :P

  • my teacher said this was his favourite Dylan song, so i lestened to it and sure enough, it was great.

  • This is undoubtedly one of his top three or four compositions and for Dylan with his stunning catalog, that is amazing. The last verse alone is one of the most powerful things he's written. It is mind-boggling to think Dylan himself didn't think this work, which many consider a masterpiece, to be worthy of releasing when he first recorded it.

  • Wow, just awesome. Thats it.

  • The greatest song I've come across

  • Whose josh? josh, goshth

  • I'm Josh, and it's all a matter of opinion, some might argue it's pressing on or Isis, One more cup of coffee, or It's alright ma- None of those choices would be wrong, but they'd still be choices.

  • i think this song is right up there with Hurricane or Along The Watchtower...jus simply a brilliant song!!

  • The guy is crazy, he left both this & Foot Of Pride off of Infidels.

  • arguably the best of any of his unreleased stuff (and thats sayin somethin).

  • 這首是狄倫作品中非常經典又很特別的!我好像沒有聽過其他類似風格的狄倫作品

  • hey I cant believe I've not heard this song b 4 ! what a gem , gonna listen to it for a week not stop, its awesome, thanks.

  • it wasnt released, only available on his bootleg album. but i agree, its one of his very best, and completely addictive.

  • ... power and greed and corruptible sin seem to be all that there is...

  • emocionante. maravillosa. GOD DYLAN

  • This incredible and wonderful song was made with only Bob Dylan on piano and Mark Knopfler on the acoustic guitar. Bob Dylan refused to see this song released because of disagreement between him and Knopfler during recording sessions.

This song was published for the first time on "the bootleg series" 1991 (rare and unreleased).

One of the best songs written by Bob Dylan.

  • I don't think "disagreement" is in Dylan's dictionary.

Either he wanted it out or he did not.

Knopfler's opinions would have counted for nothing.

  • Knopfler mixed it, went on tour (I think), came back and found Bob had mixed the life out of it, plus pulled this song from the album.

  • Speechless.

  • The part of I'm Not There with this song made me cry

  • "This land is condemned

All the way from New Orleans

    To Jerusalem."

  • Best song ever! Very well put together Vid.

  • hey thats beautiful, where'd you get the rare pics?

  • possibly my favorite dylan song!! genius

  • love this song, one of my favorite dylan vocals!!untouchable

  • His Royal Bobness delevered Blind Willie McTell proving to be a mighty blues singer himself.

  • Gorgeous. One of his best songs...and that's saying something.

  • Who say's he can't sing ? brilliant lyrics, brilliant delivery, just perfect.
