Ya, I'm sure that's it, he just mixed up the pedals and can't drive. Oh except for the fact he was upside down through the braking line, but I'm sure that didn't have anything to do with it.
no it sure isn't im highly involved in motorsport you are taught as a child to run as soon as a car comes of the track, they had plenty of time to move, in a rally event you usually have less than a second to get out of the way. not hard.
@oliroolz it is possible, a majority of aussies at the v8's are drunk by the time the v8's get out there. in all honesty alcohol & motorsport should be kept separate.
Lucky driver.. I feel bad for that crowd. Did the people who own the track honestly think a little 2 foot tall slab of cement and a chain link fence was going to stop a car if it starts rolling over?
wow omg! those ppl are very lucky.... i bet watching a car headed straight towards them while flipping and flying is one of the most insane things you would ever see
They need a force field barrier that'll protect speculators from harms way w/o limiting views. Heck, I think scientist should create surrogates and people wouldn't put themselves in harms way whether driving a car (300k deaths a yr), walking down/up a stairs, riding an elevator, or swimming. They can all stay home w/o risking death what a great invention!
That's one shitty circuit. There's no way that should have happened. I know it was a freak accident, but the run off area was way too short. It's a miracle that none of those spectators was killed.
I like how there talking about how the driver is ok and was saved by the roll cage, I think you could have survived that in a uncaged mini. and what about the fucking unprotected spectators, it was a freak accident, but what was even more crazy was the fact no one died. does anyone remember what happened in 1955 at Le Mans, when a car flew into the crowd it killed 84 people and Injured a 100 more.
@seroyer2 It clearly states on all admission tickets sold at all motor racing events "motor racing is dangerous" If you don't want to be in harms way, then stay at home.
@tsport100 I know that but my point how fucking dumb the media is on what they are focusing on. there focusing how the driver is ok, its a fucking miracle that no spectators died.
One would think people would know this, but don't spectate at the end of straightaways, or the outside apexes of corners, it's just stupid.
There are plenty of other places to watch a race from, try the middle of straights , or the inside of corners, or at chicanes. Whole bunch 'o safer spots. Think before you sit.
yes the officials and medics did and awesome job. like you said it was a freak accident. and i was there and saw the whole thing. it just goes to show you how safe australian car racing is. that 2 major accidents in 2 days and no one died or was seriously injured
officals and medics did a fantastic job - just for them to have to face it again the next day. No fault to the drivers and no one to really blame at all. It was a freak accident. Just take the time to think about those who had to respond. They did really well!
thats a load of bull all the spectators ran i was there and saw the whole thing no one got hurt it was just a precaution that they got taken to hospital
@deanoqld yea but thats not cause they didnt see the car coming its cause there older and couldnt move in time. i was there and saw the whole thing........yes the officials and medics did and awesome job. like you said it was a freak accident. and i was there and saw the whole thing. it just goes to show you how safe australian car racing is. that 2 major accidents in 2 days and no one died or was seriously injured
Was scarey we were 20 feet to the left ..Thought the bloke with the Jackdaniels Umbrella was dead ...cant believe he only has concussion..( Buy alotto ticket )..A steel Fence like they have at indy will fix the problem ,cause its the best spot to watch from..
It was totally insane when he clipped Sarah and just launched himself, we were just standing there just totally shocked. I cant believe Sarah didn't even waiver. Glad no one was seriously hurt. It was definitely a massive weekend.
@shadowdansa Hey who's this? The driver that crashed today is my sister in car 19.
If you know of any footage of todays crash uploaded online can you post it for me? I'm yet to see it....also in this clip here at 0:48sec ...how scary does that look...im glad her hair didnt get sucked into the tire hehe..(yes i know the helmet would stop that)
@DoriouS13 Tell your mum to put the footage up. She and I both got some but mine was brief, like 3 seconds, cause once her car left the track my footage is of the ground cause I was running around the track to Sarah. LOL!
a more safe and secure spectator fence should definately be errected so that if this happens again, at least NO innocent spectators will be killed. This is a lucky escape, this time.
@iluvrnb1 That fence was too low. Last week in Talladega, AL (USA), the last lap of a 500km support-series race ended with a car launching in the air, sending it into a 7m high catchfence. The car swatted back and never went into the spectators or the safety vehicle. How high was that catchfence in Ipswich?
@WhiteHatBobby hi bobby i do not know the hight of that fence, however from what you mentioned it seems maybe no hight in a fence maybe safe enough, all i can say is if i attent a race im going up the back.
@iluvrnb1 I just checked the video again. The fence isn't even 1500 mm tall. Look at the spectators hanging on the fence. If that fence was Talladega-spec with its seven metre high catchfence supporting a 1500mm tall wall, the car would have been stopped by the Talladega catchfence.
omg, if u watch all the spectators everyone stands up instantly after it :O i wuda been super scared, even if it hada missed me I wu still be scared and wud flinch wenever a car passed me after that in rl
@mrjakes12, Mini's have more racing heritage than most marques of cars, Minis have been racing since the day they were created, Commodores and Falcons would more likely fall in the realm of your comment. It was a freak accident that was cause by the location of the spectator area. There was alot of luck involved with this accident.
@Hytram1 Yes you are correct, but the mini in this incident is far different than the minis you are describing, the older minis had a much lower centre of gravity & the heavier steel construction aided the weight distribution balance, text book stuff you should know if you race.
@mdr279 Shouldnt be racing cars that were intented to carry familys, mini's are front heavy, this factor perpetuated the end for end roll and the distance travelled while in this roll, textbook stuff you should know.
It tells you on the back of your ticket that motorsport is dangerous and this type of thing can happen, it doesn't matter how high the fence is, Nascar have probably 30 ft high fences and cars can go right through it , should they have a 6 ft concrete high fence around the whole track ?.....i don't think so. Its just a freak accident
@cortman79 ... when they said theyve never seen anything like this before, they meant theyve never seen a car flip over a barrier into the crowd like that.. You are right though, in 2005 A Porsche Carrera GT flipped 7 times over a curb in THE MIDDLE of the track. And later that day, Jason Richards Flipped his Commodore 7 times over the same curb!! Not wat the news was refferring to though.. :)
Freak accident has happend previously the fence was right height but not designed for a crash like this the gravel trap stops the car on wheels not in the air spinning
the only spin i could think of was they said it had never happened at queensland raceway before. not true. a couple of years ago at two flipped at the same corner the same weekend

Actually the mini that crashed today ended up on it's roof, Sarah Harley was at the wheel.
That track was hired by the V8supercars. as is. they decided that it was fine to race on.
Dick Johnson may have said alot of bad things about that track, but he actually was involved in it's design.
There have been shocking crashes at most V8supercar events over the years. those tracks are still in use.
