this is imo, but i believe this song is stating that the government targets the young, poor, and starving citizens of the country to fight their war. they do so by supplying them with food and shelter and money, not much money mind you, the rich are the ones getting wealthy off the fighting while the poor are dying for practically minimum wage. however this does not justify the poor. they are fighting for someone elses beliefs for a quick buck and it is a shame they do so, thats what i think

For anyone who is confused by the title or content of this song, it is a tongue-in-cheek reference to "let them eat cake" which was the response of a princess when she heard that the peasants had no more bread. She was oblivious to the problem of famine. You can't take these lyrics at face value. This doesn't need to be explained if you know the politics of Bad Religion and Sage Francis but apparently some people need context. So there you go. Let them eat war.
