Hey kitchenofdistinction...Thats my opinion and Im entitled to it! "they're probably better than you can do", what a childish comment. Im surprised you dint say that I was just jealous! The next time just mind your own business and let others express their opinoion...dork!
Saw The Who at Belle Vue, Manchester in 1976 with my brother and some friends, THEY WERE AWESOME: Moon and Daltrey came on to the stage fighting...rolling on the stage fighting, mad!
The Who are hands down, no question, THE BEST BAND EVER!!!! They are far and away better than the 2 MOST OVERRATED BANDS EVER AND THAT IS THE STONES AND BEATLES!!! YES, I SAID THE STONES AND BEATLES!!! The Who blows them both not only out of the water but off of the planet Earth! PERIOD!!!!!!!
@don62snodgrass Silly comment...like saying trees are better than rivers, They are all pretty good in my book and probably better than you can do so don't be so negative to great artists.
Nice. I saw them a week or two before this date, in Worcester, Mass, Oct 1970.Alas the only time I saw them, but it was the best rock concert I ever saw, and I saw all the great ones. And this song in particular is the best of the best. Keith Moon couldn't have lived, but what a ride while it lasted!!
forget where they sounded the best and this and that argument. just to be able to hear these treasures is simply a treat. such a high energy quartet that made big sound and good music. they have so much history and lore, almost like a classic fable. they really had something to prove and truly delivered. if there was ever a band that meshed together, it was this one. sure they had their share of problems, but thank God they put them aside long enough to put out some great albums.
This is good, but the Live At Leeds version kicks this one`s ass. Moon`s bit on the Leeds cuts is as good, actually I think the very best he played on anything I`ve ever heard. If you haven`t heard that one you need to check it out and play it as loud as you can tolerate it, preferrably with headphones. Enjoy.
@pilesovinyl - good stuff, however i'd have to disagree with all due respect. since my post 6 months ago, i've found a definitive favorite. google "Amazing Journey Sparks Tanglewood" for the video recorded @ Music Shed, Tanglewood, MA, 7 July 1970 - it is on "dailymotion" - *not* YouTube - someone should post it in HD here. Moon drives the groove with reckless abandon, kinda like that Cadillac into the Holiday Inn pool on his (20th) 21st birthday. Good times!
@pilesovinyl - the version i'm talking about is now here on YouTube - search "Amazing Journey / Sparks - Tanglewood 1970" - even better than the version on Dailymotion.
@KITCHEN OFDISTINCTION Your entire comment is just stupid! Kitchen of distinction...name of dumbass!

Turn up Moon! We are missing half of his genius, especially in "Sparks". He was the best musician in the band. Who else in r&r played lead drums?

The left and right channels are reversed. Townshend is always on the right and Entwistle is always on the left.

@don62snodgrass When I was eleven years old a movie on Showtime came out called The Kids are alright.
Changed my life forever! The Who could blow metal bands like Metallica off the stage.
I will die knowing the greatest band of all time is The Who.

In the greatest rock era between 1968-1974, keith moon and john entwhisle were considered the best of their era.

was this the first time they played it??
dogma264 2 years ago
I don't know but I'm guessing they first played it in their home country somewhere-England.
faeryquene 2 years ago
Yeah - they played Tommy, in its' entirety, in London before they did over in America...
asmorgan88 2 years ago
The first time "tommy" was played live in america was in Detroit at a famous rock hall called "The Grande Ballroom" on May 9th 1969.

Pretty sure that's in San Fransico for the Quadrophenia shows. Late 1973, this is the show where Keith passed out. Videos are on youtube.

That pic at 3:52 is at the Kilburn show in 1977. You can now get the whole performence on dvd. I own it, man it's great.
