this stone you put into the well looks like a "drill bit".

imagine that at the square top of the stone fits a wooden beam and the grooves of the stone really was made to put some rope around it to lift it back up again.....??? sounds logical?

I think so.

you would give Archaeologists a darn good idea how those holes were made.
