I would wait a good hr to add any coolant to an overheated engine. Adding cold coolant to a hot engine can result in cracking some part of the block from the shock of sudden cooling. Nothing will destroy an engine faster than overheating with low/no oil being the other worst case.
My car overheated today and a bunch of white smoke started coming out of the radiator tank cap. From the radiator hose to the tank, the hose has a small hole at the end of it and there was a lot of white smoke shooting out of that hole! Then my coolant boiled away so I had to put 4 bottles of water inside for my car to turn on. When it did, the hole started gushing out coolant so I had to leave my car on the side and catch the bus home today. Idk what to do! Someone PLEASE HELP ME ASAP!!!!!
Question: My car is overheating on and off. When it is overheating no hot air is coming out of the blower ( i assume because no water is getting to the heater core) I'll turn the car off and let the fans run for a while over and over and magically the car starts blowing hot air and temp is normal... Sound like a thermostat problem, block in fluid or water pump issues???
im confused on the aircon part?? when your car is overheating and you turn the aircon heater on and on full heat do you leave the car runnng while you are doing this?
where is smoke coming out at? if u are developing white smoke from the tailpipe im afraid that this is a sign of a broken head gasket and depending on the extent of the damage it may or may not be repairable. check the color of your oil (pull out dipstick) if it is the color of say chocolate milk thats a sure sign. and if your coolant is bubbly (radiator) this is a sign of oil and coolant mixing. get back to me and take it from there
how hot did u let the engine get? if it is leaking out from around the radiator cap then u may have a damaged cap. go the your local auto parts store and get a new one. if it is leaking out on any part of the metal or radiator u have a leak. people have tried with more or less success radiator glue. but a leak like this would not contribute to overheating imo. how much coolant is spilling out?
If driving and you start to over heat, turn the heat on high. Also, try to keep moving, stop and go doesn't allow a constant airflow into the engine if you radiator fan is broken.

Doesn't tell you how much water you should add if you don't have coolant... and how long can you drive with it...
dipendra007 2 years ago
you dont need to know the amount, you can just see it in the reservoir........

this guy also forgot to say when you pull over to let it cool down you can trun your heat on with the motor off and that will help also!

It can be a lot of different things.
Continue driving isn't always the best solution
