Well sonic needs 7 chaos emeralds, 50 rings and then can turn into super sonic and then he still can only stay like that for short time. Also why can't Mario also use the emeralds if sonic can. Super sonic is nothing but an excuse for fans to return to the series, (like me!) Another fact is that Mario was incredibly fast in his games. That's the whole reason for sonic's exsitance. So sonic and Mario are about even.
