ameiiiiiiiiiiiiii...Clara Nunes e suas canções são inesquecíveis...Com certeza ela é um ser iluminda pelos nossos Orixás já que era Umbandista tbm e filha de Inhasã com Ogum!!!
I hope that helps. Native speakers please feel free to criticize. I grew up with the language, but in the USA, and I'm out of practice. I like to translate the songs as an exercise.
@saudade2100 for ya:Yansã, where's Ogun? It was to the sea But Yansã, where's Ogun? It was to the sea (3X) Yansã comb your hair soft When the light of the full moon brightens the river Ogun dreamed of the daughter of Nana And I thought the stars were the eyes of Yansã In the land of deities, the love is shared Between a god who was one of peace And another god who fought As the fight ends only when there is a winner Yansã turned queen's crown of Shango shango gum nana yansa its ORIXÁS srch
Desmirado, I think you're right about the languages, because Clara Nunes sang typical music from Brazil, and we know that music has African, European and other influences. So the lyrics contains foreign words brought by African slaves, in Brazil they also worship Xangô, Iansã, Exum, Oxossi and many others divinities from Africa.
Any body who can interpreat this song for me in english. The first time i heard this song and Ijexa (Fihos de Gondhy) i fell in love with the two songs. They sound like a 'Yoruba' (a language in Nigeria) song. I will realy appreciate an interpreatation.
Yansã, where's Ogun? Went to the sea chorus Yansã comb her soft hair When the light of the moon washes out the waters of the river Ogun dreamed of the daughter of Nana And he thought that the stars were in the eyes of Yansã In the land of deities, the love is shared Among which was a god of peace And another god who fought As the fight only ends when there is a winner Yansã became queen crown of Xango Yansã = god of wind Ogum = is a warrior 2010 is a year of yansã & ogum
Thanks a lot organicindustry. Like i side in my comment that it sounds like a language in country, you see, Ogun is a god or iron, which people used to in the old days, Sango is another god that is worshiped by some people who believe in it. Both gods are still been worshiped today by a few individuals who believed them but it is no longer popular due to the advent of Christianity. I believe there is a similarity between the two languages. Once more thanks alot for the interpretation.

Iansã, cadê Ogum?
Iansã, where is Ogum?
Foi pro mar
He has gone to the sea
Mas Iansã, cadê Ogum?
But Iansã, where is Ogum?
Foi pro mar
He has gone to the sea

Iansã penteia
Iansã combed
os seus cabelos macios
her soft hair
Quando a luz da lua cheia
While the light of the full moon
clareia as águas do rio
shined on the waters of the river

Ogum sonhava
And Olgum dreamed
com a filha de Nanã
of the daughter of Nanã
E pensava que as estrelas
And he thought the stars
eram os olhos de Iansã
were the eyes of Iansã

Na terra dos orixás,
In the land of the orixás,
o amor se dividia
love was shared
Entre um deus que era de paz
Between a peaceful god
E outro deus que combatia
and a warrior god (literally "and another god who fought)
