@AFlamingFlamingo The hilarious part is you made a grammar mistake while calling someone out on their grammar. The correct way to say it is "you're calling him dumb?", not "your calling him dumb?".
@widki11er Get as technical as you want, that's beside the point. The fact of the matter is Jennifer tried to come off as being a smart ass, and got straight up pwned by Conan. She deserved it.
In traditional English "snuck" is not a word, however Americans used the word and since the universe revolves around America it is now an accepted word.
@BornInAus WTF is traditional English?! English didnt become the most spoken language in the world by remaining insular and traditional! It is one of the more flexible and adaptable languages there is though at the expense of phonetics and inconsistent rule in word formations(vegetarian and humanitarian are some of the more puzzling examples) Truly "traditional English" is probably pre Norman English whichsounded more like German

@dominicrichfield "Americanism" lol it so happens that i AM an american, and as conan pointed out in the dictionary he used the right word IN the right country. idk what country you're in that "snuck" isnt a word and i dont care....so what was the point of commenting at all besides going out of your way to be an internet white knight? and yes, she was in fact being an arrogant bitch from the way she was talking and correcting conan on national television
Geez, people. Jennifer Garner was making a joke. Conan went with it and we're all having a good laugh because of it.
There was a time when Jennifer would've technically been correct. "Sneaked" was considered the proper English term and "snuck" evolved later in American English that eventually was considered proper but it wasn't always that way. In England they say "sneaked", not "snuck".
@MistaSanch3z I'm not an American, but clearly you are an idiot, because you don't realise the obvious fact that they were reacting to her showing him up on his own show
I hope that most people realize she is also right. Snuck is not a word, It took over the word 'sneak' because of common use but, in essence, it's bad English. Slang, so to speak. It is only accepted in a U.S. dictionary. Due to it becoming so popular it was included in the dictionary. Just the same as "Psst"

@jatid41223 I know you're right. Languages create dictionaries, not the other way around. I just felt like giving a big Fuck You to all the people getting themselves off trashing her.
anything just after the passage of time becomes a word if the general populus uses it enough. like kleenex, nobody says pass me a tissue, they say gimme a kleenex. now its a word and the brand name got owned. to "google it" is officially a phrase now as well and crap like that. dixie cups and tv dinners and laundromats all brand names too. Garner got owned. but shes still hott so its acceptable.
Jennifer Garner is right. Snuck is no word - at least not in the civilised parts of the word. Another instance of American crudeness. The Americans should speak Esperanto. Or better still: just say "oink oink" and we will know which part of the world they are from.
@stephen1971 Am I reading you correctly? Are you using the English language, being the most dynamic, backformed, and multi-influenced language in the world, to criticize (we use z's over here) an accepted conjugation of a word? The "purity" of the English language is a joke as is the self-righteous pursuit of preserving it. Why don't you exercise proper grammar and punctuation if you're going to be an uppity douche. Better yet, just say "oink oink" and we'll figure it out.
@stephen1971 I believe you meant to say world, not word. Snuck is in the Oxford dictionary, although it is chiefly attributed to North American English. We may use "snuck" whereas you don't. It's kind of like teeth: we have them, and you don't.
@stephen1971 Right, because what you just said wasn't crude at all. You're about as stuck up as Jennifer Garner. Have you forgotten that most Europeans don't even pronounce all of their letters? What happened there? I thought you guys invented the language? Surely EVERYBODY there can speak it correctly right? I guess not.
Languages evolve. No country can say they have completely stuck with their original grammar and spelling rules since the beginning of time. Anyone who thinks their language doesn't have some irregular rules need to take a long and hard look at their language.
It is proper now. Language is a man made concept. All man made concepts are subject to change, because all man made concepts are subject to error. Just because it's older doesn't mean it's better, it usually means the exact opposite. You don't see anyone attempting to downgrade to a first generation iPhone under the impression that the technology is somehow more proper, right?
That's fine, you can speak it however you want, but you can't say this is the same as ebonics. The difference between "sneaked" and "snuck" is practical and aimed towards fluidity of speech. It favors our dialect over others and makes speech more natural for us. Ebonics comes from a language clash that occurred when we brought a bunch of Africans to America in chains.
@deathofsmokey Yeah I know, the Ebonics comparison was a bit hyperbolic. You obviously have a firm grasp of the English language so I don't think you need my help. Carry on! Cheers!
Also if you really want to be a puritan, try writing up your resume in Old English. Gamestop will probably hire you. Languages change, people change, society changes. It's history. We have a diverse language that takes from various other languages, so there's nothing wrong with supporting a practical evolution.
"Although snuck is used fairly widely, the correct past tense and past participle of sneak is sneaked. Snuck was considered to be non-standard English when people started to mistakenly use it, which, we’re told, was in the late 19th century; instead of correcting it through education, it spread and has now become so entrenched in our language that many well-respected writers and speakers use it and think that it’s correct."
All you Americans are wrong, just like the way you all are wrong with your whole pathetic fucked up American language. Snuck is not a word, it is"sneaked", Just as "mum" is "mum" and not "mom". Just like "analyse" is "analyse" and not
analyze", just like your whole pathetic pitiful language. You all should go back to school.
I always thought Jennifer Garner was a snotty bitch, from other things she has said & because of the way she acts most of the time. This just confirms my opinion of her. I find her to be so conceited and obnoxious I refuse to see any movie she's in. And because he married her, I won't see any Ben Affleck movies, either.
@dancinqueen47 The way she said it made her sound so snobby too. "Snuck tisn't a worrddd... Conan... you should know that, yes, you most certainly should...."
@dancinqueen47 - What are you scared of confident women? She isn't remotely conceited or obnoxious. You're just compiling words with negative connotations to put a bigger scope on her back. Don't be a 'straw man' and depict her out of context. Sure sounds like an obnoxious thing to do.
@Aloverssoulz - Definitely don't see any cow-like resemblance on her. That's correct. They seem to have a problem with confident women. She has a very tough demeanour and always talks with conviction. That has nothing to do with her being stuck up, it's clearly a case of misunderstanding. I don't care if they can't handle that type of woman but instead of taking the obnoxious approach just admit it.
I’m with Jennifer. The reason “snuck” is in the dictionary is because the dictionary people consider “popular” usage in the American lexicon. You know, tell a lie often enough and people begin to believe it. Almost always the dictionaries indicate that “snuck” is “informal” usage. One source says it is improper to use “snuck” in written material. I would definitely agree. Another word is “dove,” used as the past tense of “dive.” Sorry, the correct word is “dived.” A “dove” is a damned bird!
If a word gets used and widely accepted as a part of a language it is a part of that language. "Snuck" is not the original standard English variant but it has become so familiar that it certainly IS a word. I found it funny how some people are ignorant of their own native language or how one defines what is a word and what is not
Snuck is not a word. She is right. How she corrected him, however, was a bit rude. I think she meant it as a joke, but who knows? The thing is it is now widely accepted. I don't use snuck, but you are all free to do so in my book.
she is partially correct. type in the word "snuck" on the comment section and it'll show you a squiggly line just below it. Correcting someone's grammar on Youtube makes the corrector look like a jackass but correcting someone's grammar on national television makes them look even worse, and it even backfired to boot.
Too many of you are complicating the sh!t out of this. Bottom line is, she said snuck isn't a word. No wiggle room there. She should have stayed in the shallow end of the pool with the rest of the kids.
@eatcarpet Yes, it does make it an exactly proper word if you are in the US or Canada. thats why it is in the dictionary. :D
I do agree that she was confused though. She thought she would be a rude bitch and a snob and that it would make her look cool, and she was completely confused about that.
She is born and raised American, so she's got no excuse for acting like she did.
@eatcarpet Now you are making things up. It is not a "Non-standard word." It's just a word, plain and simple. It is the past and past participle of sneak. You may not like how it started, but it is a real word now.
Rude language snobs like Ms. garner are not required to use it if they don't want to. They just need to remember that it is far worse to interupt & try to embarass a fellow human being than it is to make a trivial language mistake. (and this was not even a mistake)
@eatcarpet In America, it's a word. get over it dude. Like I said, if you don't like it, don't use it. ...and especially don't use it as an excuse to look down on other people or correct them. That is what Ms. Garner did wrong. It's insufferably rude.
And yes, looking up snuck in a dictionary and finding "Chiefly US and Canadian not standard" is a fact. Heck even my Firefox's spell-check doesn't recognize the word "snuck".
@eatcarpet HAR! As well as being a language expert, you are also a highly competent medical/psychological professional, able to make complex assesments of a person's state of being from just a few Youtube comments. Impressive! I wish you were my doctor. :D
It is also a fact that the show is taped in the U.S. where 'snuck' is a valid word. Merriam-Webster says it is now standard. You are arbitrarily choosing facts to suport your premise. It does not work that way.
Anyway, search for "thefreedictionary snuck" on Google. Then click on the first link. You will see "Chiefly US and Canadian not standard" in the second definition. Cheers.
@eatcarpet You are putting 'thefreedictionary' up against The Columbia Guide to Standard American Usage, the Random House Dictionary and the Merriam-Webster Dictionary? Interesting. I'll stick with the more reputable, mutiple sources I provided.
If by "your point" you mean your assesment that I have something wrong with me, it is not a point at all. It is what's known as an 'ad hominum' arguement, and it is valueless for proving anything. It's just playground namecalling.
@Caniswalensis ...You're taking this way too seriously. Again, you need to chill.
Look, all I said was that the word snuck was for US and Canadian only, which is correct. I also said that it was not a standard word, which is also correct. Snuck was originally a slang word/dialect that got popular enough to make it into the dictionary.
@eatcarpet Why do you say I am taking this too seriously? So far you are the only one taking it seriously enough to make personal comments in the discussion.
I agree that snuck is US & Canadian usage. Since the show is taped in the US and the conversation is betwwen a canadian and an American, that makes no difference.
The fact that it started as slang makes no difference.
Your source for it being non-standard is a free online dictionary. It is outdated.
@eatcarpet I gave three excellent sources that say snuck is a standard word. Instead of meaningless tactics like telling me I need to chill, it would be more supportive of your claim if you commented on the disparity between your one questionable source and my three better ones.
According to the three sources I listed, 'snuck' is a standard word. I am willing to have my mind changed about that, but it has to be with evidence. not insults.
@Caniswalensis lol... you're proving my point again and again. Let it go, dude. Don't you have anything better to do? You're taking this way too seriously.
@eatcarpet :) You keep posting too. So what does that say about you? To me, this is just a discussion. I dont know where you are getting the idea that I am taking it too serously.
Since you did not adress the subject at all, I will take your latest comment as an admission that you are wrong.
@Caniswalensis You didn't seem to get the hint that I've wanted to end the discussion with you by not replying. Yet you are still being persistence and obsessive. I think I have better things to do than argue with a random obsessive YouTuber who can't let things go. So good day to you sir, and good bye. Don't reply to me anymore, because you're just annoying, not because that you're right.
@eatcarpet Don't reply to you? Do you really think you command the interwebs like that? lol
If you want to end the conversation, just stop replying. It's that simple. I am not obsessive or taking it too seriously. I get an email when someone replies to one of my comments. I go and reply back and then go about my business. It takes no time and I enjoy it. To me, a person that wants to end the conversation but can't keep from answering posts is much more obsesive than I am. :)
@Caniswalensis Wow... yet you're still replying. You're a real piece of work, aren't you?
I've actually stopped replying to you, yet you still persisted with the comment "Got nothing?" and now this. It's scary how little you seem to be aware of your own actions. Well good luck in life, since you seem to need some help with it.
Since you are not offering any reason why my three sources are not to be taken as accurate, I have to assume you cannot do that. With those three very credible references intact, it is clear that 'snuck' is now standard english.
Since you are just being rude now and keep heaping abuse on me at every turn, I think this will be my last reply to you. I get the feeling that you won't be able to resist popping in again to insult me. Have a good time. :)
@eatcarpet Also, spell checkers of any type are not a suitable resource for what is and is not a word. If you like to say 'sneaked' you should be aware of that.
[snuck] is not so common in highly formal or belletristic writing, where sneaked is more likely to occur. Snuck is the only spoken past tense and past participle for many younger and middle-aged persons of all educational levels in the U.S. and Canada. Snuck has occasionally been considered nonstandard, but it is so widely used by professional writers and educated speakers that it can no longer be so regarded.
past and past participle snuck has risen to the status of standard and to approximate equality with sneaked. It is most common in the United States and Canada but has also been spotted in British and Australian English.
@officialvangcreative People can take sets of facts and cherry-pick the ones they like to support their pre-conceived notions. Thus, you have "versions" of facts. Someone needs to understand that.
BTW, this is straight from Merriam-Webster:
...the past and past participle snuck has risen to the status of standard and to approximate equality with sneaked. It is most common in the United States and Canada but has also been spotted in British and Australian English.
@jewunit6 Actually hung refers to past tense of things like "hung up the phone" or "hung clothes," and "hanged" is supposed to refer to past tense of an execution by hanging.
only way to settle that dispute was with quick angry sex against a wall in her dressing room. there. now that's settled. Then after of course Conan would have had to snuck out the room..
Actually, Jennifer is right, even though the dictionary appears to prove Conan correct. Snuck is a non-standard or slang past tense form that is so commonly used that people are convinced it is correct. The dictionary he is reading probably explains this...but obviously he left that out for comic effect! Google it...
@BikerScout88 Sneaked/snuck are both acceptable. Snuck has been aroung since the 19th century. It's a real word, and Ms. garner needs to learn to deal with it.
@Caniswalensis Jennifer gave Conan an awesome starting point for doing something funny -- first his look, then his dictionary bit. Very funny. She was just trying to be funny correcting him, too.
@BikerScout88 I don't think so. I think she was trying to belittle him and make him look small. When you earnestly point out someone's mistake in a friendly conversation and insult them, that's not funny.
@DuncanDonuts3 You have a good point, but when you start mixing up "sneaked" and "snuck", they can both be logical, however they can both sound illogical too.
Neither are incorrect, nor do they sound off used in their sentences (before the debate), but I don't think Jennifer was right to call him out on it.
I would've asked "is snuck a word?" because it SOUNDS okay, but there's some SLANG in English too that's made it in the dictionary.
This is the kind of debate that won't be settled easily.
@FoamKittyGamer language evolves so they are both kinda right. snuck is not proper but it is so commonly used that it must have made it to the dictionary they have done this with alot of words but snuck is not the proper past tense or sneak
@DuncanDonuts3 yes it does but hung is not a word either it is hanged which sounds vaguely retarded to me as well, but thats just how it is the fact that sneaked and hanged sounds stupid is the reason snuck n hung are so widely used which will in turn make them the correct use of the words because language evolves
Saying something isn't a word in English is like saying the tide will never shift.

I always thought Jennifer Garner was a snotty bitch, from other things she has said & because of the way she acts most of the time. This just confirms my opinion of her. I find her to be so conceited and obnoxious I refuse to see any movie she's in. And because he married her, I won't see any Ben Affleck movies, either.
dancinqueen47 2 months ago 17
@dancinqueen47 The way she said it made her sound so snobby too. "Snuck tisn't a worrddd... Conan... you should know that, yes, you most certainly should...."
Glad to see her owned.

TheLordHodne 1 month ago 2
@dancinqueen47 - What are you scared of confident women? She isn't remotely conceited or obnoxious. You're just compiling words with negative connotations to put a bigger scope on her back. Don't be a 'straw man' and depict her out of context. Sure sounds like an obnoxious thing to do.
vendetta89 1 month ago
@vendetta89 His comment has nothing to do with confident women. She's always shown herself to be a stuck up cow.
Aloverssoulz 1 month ago

I found it funny how some people are ignorant of their own native language or how one defines what is a word and what is not
ekku1979 3 months ago
Snuck is not a word. She is right. How she corrected him, however, was a bit rude. I think she meant it as a joke, but who knows? The thing is it is now widely accepted. I don't use snuck, but you are all free to do so in my book.

she is partially correct. type in the word "snuck" on the comment section and it'll show you a squiggly line just below it. Correcting someone's grammar on Youtube makes the corrector look like a jackass but correcting someone's grammar on national television makes them look even worse, and it even backfired to boot.

@eatcarpet Guess wehre the show is filmed. Guess where Conan is from. :)
Caniswalensis 3 months ago
@Caniswalensis It still doesn't really make it a "proper" word, so I can see why Jennifer Garner may have been confused.
eatcarpet 3 months ago
@eatcarpet Yes, it does make it an exactly proper word if you are in the US or Canada. thats why it is in the dictionary. :D
I do agree that she was confused though. She thought she would be a rude bitch and a snob and that it would make her look cool, and she was completely confused about that.
She is born and raised American, so she's got no excuse for acting like she did.
Caniswalensis 3 months ago
@Caniswalensis No, it was a slang word at first but it got popular so it made it into the dictionary as a "non standard" word.
eatcarpet 3 months ago
@eatcarpet Now you are making things up. It is not a "Non-standard word." It's just a word, plain and simple. It is the past and past participle of sneak. You may not like how it started, but it is a real word now.
Rude language snobs like Ms. garner are not required to use it if they don't want to. They just need to remember that it is far worse to interupt & try to embarass a fellow human being than it is to make a trivial language mistake. (and this was not even a mistake)
Caniswalensis 3 months ago
@Caniswalensis Look up in the dictionary, it says "Chiefly US and Canadian not standard".
eatcarpet 3 months ago
@eatcarpet In America, it's a word. get over it dude. Like I said, if you don't like it, don't use it. ...and especially don't use it as an excuse to look down on other people or correct them. That is what Ms. Garner did wrong. It's insufferably rude.

@Caniswalensis ...there is something wrong with you.
And yes, looking up snuck in a dictionary and finding "Chiefly US and Canadian not standard" is a fact. Heck even my Firefox's spell-check doesn't recognize the word "snuck".
eatcarpet 3 months ago
@eatcarpet HAR! As well as being a language expert, you are also a highly competent medical/psychological professional, able to make complex assesments of a person's state of being from just a few Youtube comments. Impressive! I wish you were my doctor. :D
It is also a fact that the show is taped in the U.S. where 'snuck' is a valid word. Merriam-Webster says it is now standard. You are arbitrarily choosing facts to suport your premise. It does not work that way.
Caniswalensis 3 months ago
@Caniswalensis You're just proving my point.
Anyway, search for "thefreedictionary snuck" on Google. Then click on the first link. You will see "Chiefly US and Canadian not standard" in the second definition. Cheers.
eatcarpet 3 months ago
@eatcarpet You are putting 'thefreedictionary' up against The Columbia Guide to Standard American Usage, the Random House Dictionary and the Merriam-Webster Dictionary? Interesting. I'll stick with the more reputable, mutiple sources I provided.
If by "your point" you mean your assesment that I have something wrong with me, it is not a point at all. It is what's known as an 'ad hominum' arguement, and it is valueless for proving anything. It's just playground namecalling.
Caniswalensis 3 months ago
@Caniswalensis ...You're taking this way too seriously. Again, you need to chill.
Look, all I said was that the word snuck was for US and Canadian only, which is correct. I also said that it was not a standard word, which is also correct. Snuck was originally a slang word/dialect that got popular enough to make it into the dictionary.
eatcarpet 3 months ago
@eatcarpet Why do you say I am taking this too seriously? So far you are the only one taking it seriously enough to make personal comments in the discussion.
I agree that snuck is US & Canadian usage. Since the show is taped in the US and the conversation is betwwen a canadian and an American, that makes no difference.
The fact that it started as slang makes no difference.
Your source for it being non-standard is a free online dictionary. It is outdated.
Caniswalensis 3 months ago
@eatcarpet I gave three excellent sources that say snuck is a standard word. Instead of meaningless tactics like telling me I need to chill, it would be more supportive of your claim if you commented on the disparity between your one questionable source and my three better ones.
According to the three sources I listed, 'snuck' is a standard word. I am willing to have my mind changed about that, but it has to be with evidence. not insults.
Caniswalensis 3 months ago
@eatcarpet Got nothing?
Caniswalensis 3 months ago
@Caniswalensis lol... you're proving my point again and again. Let it go, dude. Don't you have anything better to do? You're taking this way too seriously.
eatcarpet 3 months ago
@eatcarpet :) You keep posting too. So what does that say about you? To me, this is just a discussion. I dont know where you are getting the idea that I am taking it too serously.
Since you did not adress the subject at all, I will take your latest comment as an admission that you are wrong.
Nice talking to you.
Caniswalensis 3 months ago
@Caniswalensis You didn't seem to get the hint that I've wanted to end the discussion with you by not replying. Yet you are still being persistence and obsessive. I think I have better things to do than argue with a random obsessive YouTuber who can't let things go. So good day to you sir, and good bye. Don't reply to me anymore, because you're just annoying, not because that you're right.
eatcarpet 3 months ago
@eatcarpet Don't reply to you? Do you really think you command the interwebs like that? lol
If you want to end the conversation, just stop replying. It's that simple. I am not obsessive or taking it too seriously. I get an email when someone replies to one of my comments. I go and reply back and then go about my business. It takes no time and I enjoy it. To me, a person that wants to end the conversation but can't keep from answering posts is much more obsesive than I am. :)
Caniswalensis 3 months ago

@Caniswalensis Wow... yet you're still replying. You're a real piece of work, aren't you?
I've actually stopped replying to you, yet you still persisted with the comment "Got nothing?" and now this. It's scary how little you seem to be aware of your own actions. Well good luck in life, since you seem to need some help with it.
eatcarpet 3 months ago
@eatcarpet You are still replying. :)
Caniswalensis 3 months ago
@eatcarpet Also, spell checkers of any type are not a suitable resource for what is and is not a word. If you like to say 'sneaked' you should be aware of that.
Caniswalensis 3 months ago
@eatcarpet The Columbia Guide to Standard American Usage says:
snuck occurs frequently in Standard English, though it is still sometimes limited in the most Formal Edited English
Caniswalensis 3 months ago
@eatcarpet Random House Dictionary usage note:
[snuck] is not so common in highly formal or belletristic writing, where sneaked is more likely to occur. Snuck is the only spoken past tense and past participle for many younger and middle-aged persons of all educational levels in the U.S. and Canada. Snuck has occasionally been considered nonstandard, but it is so widely used by professional writers and educated speakers that it can no longer be so regarded.
Caniswalensis 3 months ago
@eatcarpet Merriam-Webster:
past and past participle snuck has risen to the status of standard and to approximate equality with sneaked. It is most common in the United States and Canada but has also been spotted in British and Australian English.
Caniswalensis 3 months ago
@Caniswalensis the merriam webster dictionary of the american english language is just 'his' version of facts?
yeah, someone needs to understand what a fact is. It doesn't exist in 'versions'.
officialvangcreative 3 months ago
@officialvangcreative People can take sets of facts and cherry-pick the ones they like to support their pre-conceived notions. Thus, you have "versions" of facts. Someone needs to understand that.
BTW, this is straight from Merriam-Webster:
...the past and past participle snuck has risen to the status of standard and to approximate equality with sneaked. It is most common in the United States and Canada but has also been spotted in British and Australian English.

Actually, Jennifer is right, even though the dictionary appears to prove Conan correct. Snuck is a non-standard or slang past tense form that is so commonly used that people are convinced it is correct. The dictionary he is reading probably explains this...but obviously he left that out for comic effect! Google it...
BikerScout88 3 months ago
@BikerScout88 Sneaked/snuck are both acceptable. Snuck has been aroung since the 19th century. It's a real word, and Ms. garner needs to learn to deal with it.

@Caniswalensis Jennifer gave Conan an awesome starting point for doing something funny -- first his look, then his dictionary bit. Very funny. She was just trying to be funny correcting him, too.
BikerScout88 3 months ago
@BikerScout88 I don't think so. I think she was trying to belittle him and make him look small. When you earnestly point out someone's mistake in a friendly conversation and insult them, that's not funny.

The past tense of light is lit, not lighted. I lit a cigarette. I lighted a cigarette sounds vaguely retarded.
DuncanDonuts3 3 months ago
@DuncanDonuts3 You have a good point, but when you start mixing up "sneaked" and "snuck", they can both be logical, however they can both sound illogical too.
Neither are incorrect, nor do they sound off used in their sentences (before the debate), but I don't think Jennifer was right to call him out on it.
I would've asked "is snuck a word?" because it SOUNDS okay, but there's some SLANG in English too that's made it in the dictionary.
This is the kind of debate that won't be settled easily.
FoamKittyGamer 3 months ago
@FoamKittyGamer language evolves so they are both kinda right. snuck is not proper but it is so commonly used that it must have made it to the dictionary they have done this with alot of words but snuck is not the proper past tense or sneak

@DuncanDonuts3 yes it does but hung is not a word either it is hanged which sounds vaguely retarded to me as well, but thats just how it is the fact that sneaked and hanged sounds stupid is the reason snuck n hung are so widely used which will in turn make them the correct use of the words because language evolves
