GSP is so far superior to Jake in grappling. Jake was only 27% successful in his takedowns vs. Martin Kampman. GSP is 78% against some of the best wrestlers in the sport. Names included: Josh Koscheck, Jon Fitch, BJ Penn (Probably having the best takedown defense ever), Thiago Alves (Great takedown defense), Matt Hughes. C'mon. Seriously. He dominates everyone at wrestling and submits anyone who doesn't have top level jiu jitsu skill. Not my opinion, the statistics are there.

The Martin Kampman fight, to me, seemed to be a case where he was too thin, too emaciated. He would have been killed by GSP on the ground on that day, however, if he gets his conditioning back to normal I simply don't see GSP winning the fight on the ground, quite the contrary. GSP will keep it standing tho

I guess my real point was that while Jake is an incredible grappler, I don't see that being an advantage against GSP. To beat GSP right now, in my opinion, one would need not only the wrestling and jiu jitsu ability that Jake has, but an incredible striking ability and a tank of gas for five rounds.

The problem that Shields has is that GSP is smart; if he drops Shields, he's not going to jump widely into Shields guard ala Fedor. I hate people saying Jake shields and GSP are boring fighters, they both have had some great fights. GSP vs Fitch was a war, so was GSP vs Kos and Trigg, and Shields has hella good BJJ, he's finish Lawlor, Daley, and Mike Pyle. It's only casual ufc fans that are complaining because all they want to see is a knockout.

I just think that Jakes Shields' takedowns will be ineffective since he doesn't time them well and he's not explosive. Shields' takedowns are basically grabbing you and dragging you down and I think that since GSP is the superior athlete he will be able to fight them off.

@Feralig Are you kidding? he's got a hella impressive resume, he finish Semtex, which kos couldn't beat Henderson, Okami, Robbie Lawlor, and Carlos Condit. GSP will probably beat him but people aren't giving Shields enough credit.

@Derouin91 I give him credit, but he won't beat GSP. He really shouldn't have fucked with his weight, now that he has though I think he should go up to 185 and challenge Silva. Because if his cardio is once again like it was in his last fight, he won't make it out of round 2 with GSP.

this fight is probably going to turn into gsp just jabbing shields for 5 rounds. but if shields can get gsp on the ground which he can, there is a very high chance that he would submit him, or he would just love tap him the whole round cause when shields gains position he rarely looses it (unless hes gassed).

bottom line, shields better get gsp on his back (which is not going to be easy) and use his superior jiu jitsu skills or gsp is going to outclass him on the feet.

I think this fight will be a good fight... I just can't see GSP losing though. I have nothing bad to say about the guy. I think Jake Shields looked worn out in his last fight, but I think the cut just really messed him up that time. This fight card should be good I'm really interested in this fight, but I think the most 'interesting' one will be Randy Couture and Lyoto Machida, I'd like to hear what you have to say about that fight.
