just got my old crt monitor out and boy do games look better on crt than lcd on older games that were released before lcd. Even the most high tech lcd monitors cannnot give that look you get from crt. The fact crt displays images on glass and lcd uses plastic is a complete difference. I still use both.

@thousandyoung i find lcd causes me more eyestran than crt. With lcd you are effectively look at a screen that is illuminated with a light bulb. as you can imagine staring at a lightbulb is not nice on the eyes. with crt the screen is not illuminated with a light bulb. lcds are just to bright on the eyes for this very reason. i would like to see crt monitors make a come back in wide screen versions.

Quake 2 had this atmosphere that lacks in every fps out today. It has this serious feel to it, no cheesy dialogue or over dramatic story line. It's just a really gritty and mature game. Even the sounds are superb. I have yet to find another game like this from 1999 onwards.

Watching this kind of game compared to todays standards is kinda sad. Back then, they focused on the gameplay, story, and the entertainment factor. Nowadays it's all about graphics and physics and if a game doesn't have that it sucks, and alot of my friends wonder why I almost never want to play any new fps games and I always find myself playing the 90's classics like half-life and doom and quake.Well, thats the answer.Most of todays fps games are short, have little story and can be boring.

quake 2.. so much time enjoyed on this game as a child. all of grade 7 and 8. my family got first computer p166, 32mb ram, 4gig HD, 8mb vid card (later upgraded to 32mb card, voodoo2, was AMAZED by the difference). i played this game EVERYDAY for countless hours. Lithium, then weapons of destruction (clones and trip mines, fuck yeah), then CTF, abit of Rocket Arena (or rail?) but CTF was my true love. the speed and precision you needed in this game was great and was for the true hardcores.

Actually, quake III was also a disappointment since it was only a multiplayer frag game and in that case, unreal tournament GOTY edition was over 9000 times better.

Best storyline ever? ID has had the shallowest "storylines" in gaming history, because it doesn't need it. The game itself is what matters, in this case.. A game like Half-life has at least what I'd say is an actual storyline. Right?
