The solution was very simple, once psftp open, I type open 192.168.x.x which was the ip address of the server and there goes, problem solved and this was not mentioned on this tutorial.
Indeed typing the server's ip would solve your problem. But if you had followed the instructions to the letter you wouldn't have to do that. The previous step instructs you NOT to close, but minimize the ssh connection. This enables psftp to auto-connect to the same IP, thus eliminating the need to retype it. This was done to make things simpler, but I'm glad you pointed this out, though. Thanks for your comment.
thank you so much for this. I previously configured joomla to work with W2003 and IIS but it was so complicated. this was amazingly easy and worked straight away!
No you don't. Linux itself is immune to most Trojans and virus (as they are created with the windows victims in mind) and the common practice in Ubuntu is to use personal, non privileged accounts, thus not affecting your system.
psftp type open then your ip again.

I followed this tutorial exactly, i minimized the window when you said, but PSFTP still wanted me to manually open 192.168.x.xxx.

Did you leave the putty open after logging in, as the instructions say? This lets psftp know the server you want to connect.
