Letterman was a huge influence on all of them, particularly Conan and Jon Stewart. Letterman's show was extremely edgy and hilarious in the 80's and 90's. He's still funny but definitely past his prime - but he does still have his moments.
Leno is and was nothing and Johnny Carson always thought Letterman should have been the one to replace him.
Jimmy Fallon is so wrong to move to Studio 6B which is not recognizable. Studio 6A was inhabited since 1981 by Letterman and Conan. It was always a recognizable place like a home on television.
lettermans a fucking arrogant douche bag i dont think ive ever laughed watching his show all he does is interrupt the ppl he interviews and that bald dip shit with the glasses who plays the piano on his show contributes nothing to the show except making random obnoxious noises and playing shitty music......lettermans show blows lol......love conan and leno though
HAHAHA....I love how u dissed letterman so cruely..and added "LOL" towards the end...I guess that makes you like him even a tiny bit..and Paul Shafer(aka the bald guy) lost his hair when he was 14 years old..now thats sad!!
The whole Leno vs. Letterman thing all boils down to personal taste. They're both funny, but I prefer Letterman's wit over Leno's own style, but that's just me.
I remember at the Emmys one year, Jon Stewart noted like how Johnny Carson influenced many of the comedians in Dave's time, David Letterman was a big influence on the comedians of Jon's time. In many ways I can see Dave's influence on Conan's style.
Way back when... Jay was the substitute host for when Johnny Carson was not in. Letterman was the host of Late Night. When Johnny Carson retired many felt that Letterman deserved to be the host of the Tonight Show. The Execs. of NBC decided that Leno should be the next host. This upset Letterman so he took his show over to CBS to compete one on one with Leno.
I just want to add that the NBC Execs. wanted to keep Dave at Late Night because they felt they couldn't find a successor if Letterman was made host of the Tonight Show. Thus Dave did not renew his contract with the network and NBC still had to find someone to take over Late Night.
Everybody Step Back! He's Packin' Pauly Shore & Carrot Top, & He's Not Afraid To Use 'Em!! & HE'S GOT BLU-RAY!!
Listen: Let's Not Do Anything RASH now DECUMVIRI! We Can Talk About This: All you have to do is just put down the Remote... & step away from the DVD. No, it's OK: You don't have to take the DVD's out of the machine: We Got The BOMB SQUAD & Hazardous Waste Team to handle that. Do The Right Thing: Think About Your Family! Don't Do This, Bro!
LOL...Don't worry solord! If I really want to hurt you I had thrown Gallagher into the mix. But I did really try to give Pauly Shore a chance back in the 90's when my eldest went through this weird Pauly Shore phase. Surprisingly he sustained no neurological damage whatsoever. Take care, buddy!
They're both very tall men.

Letterman came on in the early years when Conan's ratings were crap. Conan has said he owes a lot to Dave for giving his "approval"

Leno has better monologue writers, but Letterman is funnier, and it shows in his interviews.

Dave also has better bits throughout the show.

conan's late night will ALWAYS have the best bits though.

Well, he's toned things down a touch ever since he had his quintuple bypass surgery in 2000. But he's still funnier than Leno.

Daves wit, whether the sharper, acerbic wit of the 80s, or the toned down, warmer wit of today, always amazes me.
jimmbo13 3 years ago
Leno is hilarious. But he's nothing but a kiss ass to his guests.
Have you EVEr seen him ask anything worth while?
Dave will actually call a guest out if he disagrees with him.
