What an awesome video!! You know I'm actually interested in these kinds of videos (about Popes and stuff) and I'm actually driven by by their regalia. lol :)) Long live Papa Benedicti XVI
"The Ring of the Fisherman, also known as the Piscatory Ring, Annulus Piscatoris (in Latin) and the Anello Piscatorio (in Italian), is an official part of the regalia worn by the Pope, who is described by the Catholic Church (of which he is the head) as the successor of Saint Peter, who was a fisherman by trade. It features a bas-relief of Peter fishing from a boat, a symbolism derived from the tradition that the apostles were "fishers of men" (Mark 1:17)."
@Pterygomandibular Thanks...i guess that would be logical to do. At least the gold is reused. I wasnt aware each pope had a different papal symbol...i just assumed that the ring was handed down at first, so i got confused when i saw it being crushed and marked to symbolise the passing of the pope. What is the camalengo's position in the church...wikipedia is useless.
@Pterygomandibular The ring also serves as a Stamp for official Papal Documents. It is broken so that it can't be used again, but in recent years the ring is just retired instead of broken. As for the ring being remade I think a new one is made each time a pope is elected.
beho1124 Why do you like Pope Benedict so much??? As if the Vatican would elect an ex-Nazi as Pope!!! WTF??

@Pterygomandibular why do they break it each time...how is it remade?
KADGE93 1 year ago
@KADGE93 You know what, I have no idea, I suspect that it is destroyed, then the gold is melted, then recast with the symbol of the new pope...??

@Pterygomandibular Oh and I forgot to mention it hasn't been used to authenticate Papal bulls since the 1800's

@darthkevin27 Because Peter was the first Pope, he was a fisherman when he became a disciple of Jesus.
