Phong shading is incorrect. Phong is the basic shading that's in effect in both models (note that the right side of the "old" models is darker than the left side, that's the shading).

What I think you're trying to refer to is the baked "Ambient Occlusion", which darkens areas close to other objects simulating lack of ambient light, for example, there is no lighting in this image, only AO: graphics . cs . williams.edu/papers/AOVHPG10/i­con.jpg

Baked refers to being part of the texture.

@WoWfan924 It only seems that way here, but it looked like shit when they first showed it. Way too much purple to be "Zergish". There's a reason they got rid of that ridiculous purple-gold scheme. What does velvet and gold remind you of? Exactly. Not Zerg at all.

The only thing that should be purple is Creep. It's not freakin' My Little Pony.

Also, the newer Hydralisk model is more faithful to Broodwar and cinematics than the old.
