Whow!! Now that's fantastic piano playing!! I've been playing my entire life and couldn't dream of putting this together... Bruce would be very happy with your interpretation. Nate, that is so beautiful! Just happened to stumble upon this, and am glad I did. Ignore negative comments from anyone. Those people are narrow minded and judge by the original recording. Improvisation means everything and you definitely captured the the core of what Bruce wrote while embellishing it with your own style. I have never heard a seasoned artist, i.e., Bruce, Elton, Billy, or anyone play their songs live the same way every time. Keep it up. I'm a piano player as well.

hahaha yeah i saw the mistake in the solo bit but altogether this is the best cover for it ive seen yet. :D he's a hard one to copy cause he puts his heart and soul into his music and hes just as they call him ... spider fingers. so you did very well doing what you did.

@exoticasian30 How can you say that? Just keep playing and you will get there. In the early days of playing you have to repeat the tune until you are sick of it but in that process you learn the techniques and make the progress that will get you to the standard you are happy with and beyond.

I love you morons stating he ruined it. Watch some of Bruce Hornsby's current videos... he changes it up all the time. These songs have a motif meant to be played around and improvised. You same people comment on all videos where someone actually "plays" the music rather than giving a robotic rote recital. Quit acting like 12 year olds and go back to piano lessons. This was a fantastic rendition.

@jimghenderson I could not agree more. It's hard to say he's not playing it like Bruce when there is not one performance where Bruce plays it the same. It's always better to learn the underlining modes and progression and then come up with your own while still doing the song justice. On one hand if you're new to it, sometimes copying helps develop a skill. Of course once you grow you need to let lose otherwise it's not jazz.

Nice, you pretty much nail the "early" Hornsby feel. He's doesn't quite sound like that now, more of a jazz touch which is great...but I love the classic Hornsby. Do you have a version of the Mandolin Rain?

Yes, because you without knowledge, will not in general use your right and left hands in the same key or harmonous chords. Of course that's just the start.

And yes, I think he seems a very good teacher, who doesn't just show off.
