Do you know what I dont understand.. you dont need any f**king weapon if you are going to do something unexpected.. just punch him at his skull.. enough nerves and shits at there.. just strike at that.. or groin attack.. just simple as that. And if you miss something.. and you get into a fight then ur fucked because those pressure points wont help anymore. You cant say Im going to hit at that pressure point at #19 or something. Opponent will move. Just saying.
@NanoCoal Well that is certainly true. Sometimes you just have to improvise with your natural given defenses. Still a bit of help from other methods couldn't hurt either. It's all about training and familiarity as well. One could just as easily botch up a punch or kick. There is no guarantee when it comes to self defense...with or without a weapon. Thanks for watching man:)
@Fragite That maybe true. But that's why I mentioned a used sharpie or any other type of pen. I rarely buy anything for my DIY projects I just use what I have lying around. It you don't have a sharpie then a small tightly rolled up piece of cardboard can do the trick also.
This would be a good makeshift to use while waiting for a real one to arrive in the mail. I have to travel a "shady route" in the near future and probably won't be able to get my hands on a real one... I may do this...
Great idea! However, if my peers saw me carry a duct-taped sharpie on my keys, they would probably laugh. I carry a strong pen with me always, so if SHTF, I can grab my pen, and poke an eye out. And a good pen looks classier in my pocket than a duct-taped sharpie..... dont you think?
@Xjr5rjX A nice looking pen is definitely classier than duct tape. I really like the duct tape because of the superb grip it provides. But lately I've been carrying a steel handled Sharpie:) Much better looking! Thanks for watching!
@darkchild57 I think it is really creative and easy! I always thought that Kubotans looked like pencils, but I never thought of making one from a pen. :D True creativity, I lack a notch there.^^
@Schmidt54 You're too kind as always my friend! You could technically wrap up a small diameter ABS plastic tube and it'll serve you well as a Kubotan. Then drill a hole through it for a keyring and you're all set. There really isn't a need to buy these. Or simply just use a metal pen or a sharpie without the tape wrap:)
@darkchild57 I was just thinking: there are pen-sized flashlights out there, basically they are Kubotans already? I would carry a self-made Kubotan, but I think they stuff my already insanely crammed pockets too much. If it comes to a worst case scenario, I would put my largest key between my knuckles (between index and middle finger), the rest of the keys and the key-ring providing support. A kubotan would be better though.
@Schmidt54 Flashlights work well, but just be careful and don't break the lens if you are to use one in that way. Try for lights that have a protective crown and that are made of higher grade materials (ie, don't use a plastic light lol). In a street fight anything that you can use, use it! There are no rules and honor in today's society.
right after i saw this video i made one myself and the first thing i did was to pull the sharpie apart so u can take the filling out and the tip and if u wanted u could stick something in there incase of emergency u can just cut it open and get it, and the i gorilla taped it and electrical taped it, and then used a lighter to heat the electrical tape just a lil bit to shrink it down and get it nice and tight, it turned out pretty well
Nice job!! BTW.. Go check out the Cold Steel "Pocket Shark" and " Cruciform Dagger " which may be of interest. Could be a good replacement for a sharpie in general..
@EnduringEagle Thanks for the suggestions:) I'm headed over to Cold Steel's site now. I still carry my S&W tactical pen, it's aluminum but it'll puncture. Thanks for watching man!
@ManVsZ0MBiE Cool man! I was actually surprised myself of how sturdy feeling this DIY Kubotan was. I tried a few strikes into cardboard and it went through a few times while tearing the surface other times. Thanks for watching!
@SyrianKnight01 Lol, well yea, I guess you could just go all out swinging and raking the face:) But the idea is that you have so many options without the need to switch grips... and it fits in your pocket:) Thanks for watching!
@knifeaddiction2011 Thanks! I've always been a DIY kind of guy:) I spent a good deal of my childhood making toys out of cardboard for myself. Finally get to apply it in life lol! Thanks for watching!
Nice idea brother! i will make one for myself... But with one modification... instead of cover all the body with electrical tape, i will use shirk tubing (don't know if it's the correct name :P)..
@kowboy520 Great idea man! I'm not too sure of the name also, but it's the tubing that shrinks when you heat it right? That's an even better idea! If you make one PM me and let me know:) I'd be interested in seeing a vid of it. Thanks for watching!
Clever idea for using ordinary stuff around the house. Excellent self-defense weapon.

you can get kubatons for like 2 dollars
TheLohja 4 days ago
@TheLohja Certainly, that's true, but this video was aimed at DIY enthusiasts who just want to make one using stuff they had lying around.

I'm pretty sure the cost of tape+the sharpie is a little bit more than a cheap kubaton....

Good job, man. That's awesome. I couldn't help but picture Steve Buscemi while you were talking, haha. Your voices are similar.

@squashhead Thanks:) Lol, now I'm imaging Buscemi using a kubotan.

@LRBScarecrow This is a real good way to get a temporary or full time Kubotan. These are just as effective despite being very ghetto lol!

Yeah I no, first decent "How to make a kubaton" I was just saying to make sure people wouldnt spend like £5 on a sharpie! Nice vid!

Kubatons are £3 on eBay!

@xDzzProductions I know Kubotans are inexpensive, but this is just a nice way to recycle a Sharpie or something similar for those DIY enthusiasts:)

You can also make one out of paracord. By doing a box knot and tying it very tightly. And burning it with a lighter.
Thanks for the vid!
