I love Belle, she's always been my favorite princess. She actually did something instead of just sit there and look pretty like most of the rest of the Disney princesses. Not to mention she's intelligent and actually looked past the Beast's exterior when the other princesses fell in love with their princes solely on looks. coughArielcough. Belle and Mulan are the best role models :)

Beast really is a phenomenel character. In the beginning, he's cruel, savage, and very animalistic but he grows and develops as the story goes on and you really see that after he comes in on Belle crying and you can tell he feels guilty over how he initially treated her.

When Belle puts her face in her hands at 1:57 is honestly probably one of my favourite moments in all of Disney history. It's just so... human, it's little moments like that I think that really made people realise this was far more than just a "kids movie", and in turn why it earned its Oscar nomination. :)

I think the reason the beast didn't take both as prisoners is a possible two reasons. One, he still feels human emotions, and to me when he says "You would...take his place?" at 1:22 he sounds rather surprised that a person could be so selfless. It could be he was touched by this and it influenced his decision.

Yet more likely it's that by having her promise to stay in the castle forever for releasing her father she'd give her word not to escape. If he kept them both she obviously would try.
