When I was younger I never understood when my parents told me that their generation was alot more better to grow up in then mine was. As I got older I understand now what they were talking about. As a kid who grew up in the late eighties to mid nineties whose parents got to grow up in a cooler time that I never got to experience.
The world is a much better place because people like Victoria exist upon it. Her song writing is indeed amazing and her open, singularly beautiful voice is one of nature's true wonders.
Wasn't she dying at the time as well? That's the whole reasong they made a whole album of her music. Pay for medical costs. She def sings and writes WAY better than me, and I'm guessing...more than anyone reading this. Nevermind the fact that she is performing...
lol...you idiots are missing the whole beauty of Victoria Williams..you must live a really shallow and unimaginative life. She's a true original and loved by many.
I love this song - in the Soul Asylum version. I too strongly dislike Victoria Williams' voice. I don't know where the point is in singing this way, sorry.
FYI, Dave appears on two songs on Victoria's album Loose. But I guess those of you who don't like her won't be able to appreciate that! But for those of us who like her it's a great album and it features Dave and some other guest appearances.
Putting it in caps doesn't make it true. That's your opinion. Fine. I think she's a terrific singer. Is she going to be singing power ballads or get a lot of airplay on Top 40 radio? No. Does she have one of the most sincere, distinctive, heartfelt voices in music? Yes.
I love Victoria too. Her voice is definitely distinctive and may take a little getting used to for some ears, but think of her as a female Dylan-esque charactor - her song writing is amazing!
I thought I read that these two got married, anybody know?

Standard guitar chords and melodies, but absolutely stupid high school lyrics. I can't take this seriously

Victoria Williams is a national treasure and has more soul in her pinkie than any of the haters lurking in these waters.

Do not even try to tell me that Victoria can sing. She may be a good songwriter, but SHE IS NOT A GOOD SINGER. SHE IS NOT A GOOD SINGER AT ALL.

I think Vic sounds great. Not to mentions she wrote the song, of course. Thanks for posting.

GOSH, Victoria can´t sing at all. I do not like her voice AT ALL. I LOVE SUMMER OF DRUGS BUT THIS VERSE IS TOTALLY OUT OF EVERYTHING.

It's a very nice song (especially when Soul Asylum covered it). I agree with you about Victoria's voice, though =(
PS. Thanks for posting this, lucy. We don't mind the jumps...
