A lot of people are saying how they shouldn't go on without Brad and all that. What people seem to forget is that Bud and Eric were both robbed of their dream and future when Brad OD'd. Not making him out to the bad guy or anything, but I think that after 14 years, Bud and Eric should be able to finally live that dream.
The only reason Bud & Eric didn't continue with the name "Sublime" is cause it is not legal for them to do so. The big legal issue isn't about borrowed music, it's about the name "Sublime." Brad bought the trademark on the name & therefore "owned" it. He made it where no former member of the band could use the name "Sublime" for any reason if he was no longer in the band. You're right though, he only wrote a small % of the music he did. I don't think they should make any new music under the name "Sublime". A majority of the lyrics were written by Bradley and he sent a lot of the messages Sublime had to play. I think it is cool for them to play the old sublime songs, but not any new. If they want to make new music, they need to form a new band with a new name.
I'm starting to agree with this statement more and more because it WAS Brad who was the leading force of Sublime. The only problem I have is the fact that the other two band members were part of the band two and should have more say in it than lawyers who only care about being paid.
They were a part of the band. I am not denying that. I think that they should respect that I band was the 3 of them. I don't think any decisions should be made without the 3 of them. It just doesn't seem right to replace someone who was a large part of the band. It just makes more sense to start a new band, rather than keep the name and confuse people.

The big legal issue isn't about borrowed music, it's about the name "Sublime." Brad bought the trademark on the name & therefore "owned" it. He made it where no former member of the band could use the name "Sublime" for any reason if he was no longer in the band. You're right though, he only wrote a small % of the music he did. I think Bud, Eric & Rome are doing what Brad would've wanted - not letting the sound & legend die. It'll never be the same but it's the next best thing. ROCK ON GUYS!!!!
