Hi Gordon,Thanks for the excellent review which helped me to make up my mind in buying this camera and I bought one for myself and I am very pleased with the camera for the price it's worth.
hi.. i have a fujifilm finepix j110w.. i transfered my videos to my laptop and i dont know how to put them back onto my camera now.. can someone help me please??
I've not tested it so can't say, but if you visit cameralabs . com you'll find reviews of the Panasonic FZ28 and Canon SX10 IS which are two superzoom cameras which might interest you.
let's just say i wouldn't buy again knowing what i know now after having used it for several months. tons of noise, omnipresent purple fringing, no zoom in video mode. two killer features, the 18x optical zoom and the image stabilizer but not much else... hindsight 20/20 i guess...
i guess it depends what you use it for. I am super amateur and it will be basically my first camera for taking photos for any other reason than memories. I will not be enlarging the images to big on my computer either. Maybe around 800x600px.
Doesn't it depend on ISO aswell? I don't plan on using it much in dimly lit situations either. So i cant see it getting alot of noise at ISO 64
one word of advice: go easy on the mode selector, mine gave way after two weeks and the guy said it was a common problem. when you adjust it with your thumb, make sure you turn it from side to side and you don't actually push it up is what the guy said (it does stick out a bit).
first, i would like to congratulate u on an awesome job testing these cameras. secondly, i was thinking of purchasing a Fujifilm Finepix F100fd. is it worth buying, or should i look for an alternate? wat i'm looking for above all is excellent image quality (rich color and sharpness)under all light conditions(i like using the iso settings too). the camera can be between 8-12 mp. or shud i look for (Panasonic:TZ5, TZ4, LX2; Canon Ixus 860 IS; Pentax A30;
i'm looking for something which fits in a similar price range as the above mentioned cameras, and offers great photos. also, the camera should last a considerable time.
Hi, I haven't tested the new Fujifilms, so can't say for sure, but the models I'd recommend right now in each category can be found in the Best Buys section at cameralabs . com...
hey gordon, i really trust ur reviews but i think u should test the Finepix F100fd. i've heard a lot of good things about it. and the image quality is said to surpass TZ5, FX500, and even the 860 IS. will u be reviewing it anytime soon? thanx. mak
thanks for your advise. however, i have compared the image quality of Fujis, Pentax, Canon, Sony, Panasonic Tz3s and Tz4s, and even Ricoh. Fuji, Ricoh, and Pentax had the best picture and color quality, with the most color vibrance and sharpness among all budget digital cameras.
i am still hunting for a decent digital camera. my friend just bought a nikon. it's pretty customizable and fast too. but i do not think i'll buy a nikon. we'll see.
They are not a con; the Fuji and other super-zooms like the Panasonic FZ18 start at a much wider angle equivalent than the S5 IS (27-28mm vs 36mm) - so although at telephoto you do not see a lot more you get a much better wide-angle.
the whole reason i got the s8100fd camera was to get in a lot closer - or so i thought.
but with seeing 12x on the canon and 18x on the fuji, anyone not knowing and wanting a good zoom would go for the fuji, when in actual fact it's hardly nearer than the canon.
also, i'm not keen on super wide angle (like 27mm or 25mm).they might squeeze more image in,but they distort verticles - rather like a fish eye lens obviously not as extreme.
Mike, good point, but I always show coverage examples on the full reviews at the cameralabs. com website and dicuss the focal range in detail, so take a look at them before buying. That said, I'm with wombat on this and prefer having the wide angle facilities. After all, you can always crop an image to 'get closer' but you can't zoom out any wider.
Im buying a Fuji Finepix S8100. Have you done a review on this one ?. I hear its got 10MP and a 27-486mm. Most Certainly better then Digi SlR's You can get.
Gordon, I found a filter adapter for the camera, think it works or do you think it's scam? You Tube doesn't allow links so I can't send it to you. I can send it if you encrypt my e-mail addy Anyone else want info or sample pics, write me also
Hi Barry, that's odd - it should work fine - could you try again and if you don't get the confirmation email, let me know your username and I'll activate your forum account.
you mentioned it actually shifts its sensor to have the image stabilization. Is that different from the optical Image stabilization and if it is then how does it work?
Optical stabilistion moves an element in the lens to counteract for camera shake. Models like this one mount the sensor on an adjustable platform which actually moves to achieve the same effect. We found the stabiliser in the S8000fd was very effective.
what would be a good price for this camera used?

One answer, Fujifilm Finepix S100fs, Brilliant camera.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I don't think you should pick up a fujifilm camera unless you want a buget camera,if you want better quality camera go for a bigger brand
like sony,panasonic,canon,samung.

munificent007 3 years ago
Hey Gordon.
Ive got a choice of either..... Fuji Film S8100fd << 10.1MP, 27-486mm Lens.
Or
Fujifilm S100 Pro << Which im most probly going to buy, 11.1MP Sensor, 27mm-400mm.
Thanks
Boeing757basher07 3 years ago
I haven't tested the S100 Pro, so can't say, but the handling of the latter looks better. I'd definitely try both in person...

about the s8000:
the only reason you'd buy this is for the 18x optical zoom.
if it has purple fringing on full zoom,it's definately not the one to buy.
mike20021969 3 years ago
i think some zoom specifications are a bit of a con.
which gives better zoom reach:
a camera which starts at 27mm then 18x zoom
or
a camera which starts at 35mm then 18x zoom?
the only reason i ask is a have a canon s51s (12x optical) and the new fuji s8100fd (18x optical).
i took 2 photo's on zoom of a tree across the road from where i live.
the canon brought it in very close.
the fuji only slightly beat it.
but it most definately wasn't 6x nearer (12x against 18x).

i wont keep going on about the canon s51s on your fuji s8000 review.
but what i will say is that whenever i take it out with me it's for the main reason i bought it - so i can use the 12x zoom lens.
but most of the time the s51s suffices with the wide angle setting too.
and if it didn't for some reason,i'd just whip out my trusty ixus900ti which i always carry with me to see if that'd do the trick :)
