that sux! always get everything in writing in a contract even if its just for demos and understood by both parties, notarized, so when things go wrong, you can atleast get some cash back and/or some damages for your time, etc. so hopefully any young artists who read this will take this advice! If they won't sign an agreement as to what you both expect, probably best to run the other way!

I think what happened is he wanted to let you sing his songs, he arranged for the studio time (which was where all the expense was) and you recorded the songs.
But then he got approached by an artist that was more promising to him and went that route.
To me, i think you werent hustling enough. And 6 months for 5k?... wow

Thanks 4 sharing, more ppl need 2 know about the sharks out there. ppl should also know that in this time of technology and the internet you can do alot better 4 ur self than most producer's can. All you really need is just the basics. a good quality mic, keyboard with USB connection and a MAC. There are stores that have new and used equipment for sale and trade. bands and soloists alike are producing, copywriting, and securing their own music. Part's 1 and 2 were great. let's hear more.
I can already imagine how many ppl are asking y what the name of the song and artist is. That's disgusting that happened to you. Someone I know was told he was going to get a managing position at a store and was forced to quit his job to go to training, only to find out that the owner hired someone else. He didn't have any regular income for three months and is stuck with no job now. There are unsavory ppl in every business, unfortunately.

What's worst is this guy was paying for everything... stage clothes, food, transportation. I didn't have to put up a dime for all this. It was a nice experience getting to sing in a actual studio. Even though it was a home studio it had everything even the soundproof room and all gadgets to make great albums. It was awesome! ..but what's worst is this producer guy started to feel like a father figure to me, I've never had a dad and it felt nice to be protected and then he goes and does that.
I do have a story for you. Two years ago I met a producer on Craigslist, we meet and start recording songs that he has written in a home studio in LA. Here I am puting all of my time and hard work recording, modeling for Album Covers and this douche bag Producer who is much older than me, (old enough to be my dad) tells me that he saw down my shirt and that it excited him. I stopped dealing with him right then and there. There are sharks in this so called water and they only want 1 thing.

As u know,I have plenty of stories 2 share as well,I'm sure a lot of other artists 2..all the things we've been thru,ppl would simply call it "paying dues",but sometimes it's like,gottt damn! & it's 1 thing when things don't go as planned,don't work out as we hoped they would..it's something totally different when things do or don't go the way they do or don't bcuz of shadiness:snakes,sharks,scam artists, & saboteurs..but I'll say,it does strengthen us & eventually helps us in many areas of life

i had this appointment 2 weeks later to sign the contract and before that i quited med school, moved to another city and 2 days before they called again saying: sorry we made a mistake, someone got higher score than you and will be getting the job; i couldnt believe it. Later i found out that the person paid a BIG DEAL of money to bribe some ppl i had no proof so couldnt do much, but yeah they screwed me ! I rejoined med school and im happy but yeah those were hard times.
Yeah i exactly know how u felt lisa; I was at med school, my second year but then one relative of mine told me about this job at a big company, you know the kind of work that can give you an expensive car and a great department. I studied for 5 months for the exams that the company was doing and i knew it was almost imposible for me to get it cause so many ppl wanted it older than me (20), they called me and said that i passed and i'd be getting the job

yeah it sucks when things like that happen. i produce and i'm a performing artist and one thing u can always count on is urself. i find more performers are happier being their own manager, label, producer, etc for a while. its very dangerous to dive right in and especially at a young age but whatever ur obviously a success now!
I definitely know how it feels to have your hopes and dreams crushed by a single person.
Recently, I was told I would have a modeling opportunity for $2500 and I'm trying to move from New Brunswick to Ottawa to go to university so I thought that this would be an AWESOME chance to pay off my debt faster. Turns out it was a complete scam, I'm out $4000 and the bastard (pardon my french) had the balls to send me another email about the shoot like nothing happened.
I think you're passion and positivity is what will really set you aside from the nonsense you've once had to endure in order to learn what you really want with music and the road you need to take to achieve it. Then arranged it by yourself until you could go into a studio with a producer you trust to do it. Therefore, you wouldn't have been screwed over.

What's worst is this guy was paying for everything... stage clothes, food, transportation. I didn't have to put up a dime for all this. It was a nice experience getting to sing in a actual studio. Even though it was a home studio it had everything even the soundproof room and all gadgets to make great albums. It was awesome! ..but what's worst is this producer guy started to feel like a father figure to me, I've never had a dad and it felt nice to be protected and then he goes and does that.

I do have a story for you. Two years ago I met a producer on Craigslist, we meet and start recording songs that he has written in a home studio in LA. Here I am puting all of my time and hard work recording, modeling for Album Covers and this douche bag Producer who is much older than me, (old enough to be my dad) tells me that he saw down my shirt and that it excited him. I stopped dealing with him right then and there. There are sharks in this so called water and they only want 1 thing.

As u know,I have plenty of stories 2 share as well,I'm sure a lot of other artists 2..all the things we've been thru,ppl would simply call it "paying dues",but sometimes it's like,gottt damn! & it's 1 thing when things don't go as planned,don't work out as we hoped they would..it's something totally different when things do or don't go the way they do or don't bcuz of shadiness:snakes,sharks,scam artists, & saboteurs..but I'll say,it does strengthen us & eventually helps us in many areas of life

ugh, thanks for sharing these stories lisa, tehy reaaaaaaaaaally help people getting down to business such as myself! guess it's suuuuper important to make contracts when people ask you anything to do with sharing songs, music etc. that way you're garantueed. people in my circles have told me that COUNTLESS times haha.. but thanks for sharing, cant wait for the other stories, i feel like i'm gonna learn a lot from these vids of yours :)

Wow... That really sucks!!! I wonder what the statue of limitations is? You should sue the f*ck out of him for a percentage of his earnings off that song. If that's not something you want to waste your time & energy on, you should at least reveal his name publicly so others will know to watch out for him. You might prevent someone else from getting screwed by him the way you were....

let me try this again...:) so my teacher told me so many horrible stories to prepare me to be careful. Like, parents form this girl took a loan for 17 000 euros to give it to their daughter's manager to get her career started and her manager took all of that money and just took off without doing anything. That's really horrible, I can't even imagine how u felt back then. I am now trying hard to save up enough money to record my demo, 3 songs which I already wrote. I'm still working on my voice with my vocal coach cause I want it to be perfect and make sure that I'm ready to sing anything. I hope I'll get in the studio by the end of this year. She(my vocal coach is amazing, she knows a lot of people in this crazy business like you say, and I know that it is crazy.

i had this appointment 2 weeks later to sign the contract and before that i quited med school, moved to another city and 2 days before they called again saying: sorry we made a mistake, someone got higher score than you and will be getting the job; i couldnt believe it. Later i found out that the person paid a BIG DEAL of money to bribe some ppl i had no proof so couldnt do much, but yeah they screwed me ! I rejoined med school and im happy but yeah those were hard times.

Yeah i exactly know how u felt lisa; I was at med school, my second year but then one relative of mine told me about this job at a big company, you know the kind of work that can give you an expensive car and a great department. I studied for 5 months for the exams that the company was doing and i knew it was almost imposible for me to get it cause so many ppl wanted it older than me (20), they called me and said that i passed and i'd be getting the job

yeah it sucks when things like that happen. i produce and i'm a performing artist and one thing u can always count on is urself. i find more performers are happier being their own manager, label, producer, etc for a while. its very dangerous to dive right in and especially at a young age but whatever ur obviously a success now!

I definitely know how it feels to have your hopes and dreams crushed by a single person.
Recently, I was told I would have a modeling opportunity for $2500 and I'm trying to move from New Brunswick to Ottawa to go to university so I thought that this would be an AWESOME chance to pay off my debt faster. Turns out it was a complete scam, I'm out $4000 and the bastard (pardon my french) had the balls to send me another email about the shoot like nothing happened.

I'm 19 and I've never had experiences like that, as I'm in a small small town in Italy, so it's impossible to find a producer, but hearing your story helped me to better understand the shit in the musicbiz ... Anyways it made you stronger Lisa! Wish you the best! :)
