this is really good, try taking your racket back a little lower on your backhand though, it'll let you produce more topspin and help with those pesky high heavy shots to your backhand.
I think that in his backhand preparation he put the racket too high, near his head ... That is not necessary for a two handed backhand and slows the preparation ... and then he hits the ball too late ... just an opinion ...
Be carefull with your backhand preparation where your racketface is a little bit too much open and your moment of impact should be a bit earlier.
With your forehand you can use the open stance a bit more what suits your grip, and u can use the trunk and hip rotation more because of that. It will also make it easier to brush the ball more for you...
You are looking at a lot of potential here... his forehand is a bit flat sometimes but mostly due to his height. He'll be able to control and produce more topspin on that side when he gets taller. I may not be a coach but as a senior at UCLA (early 90's) used to hit with the best in the team.
Your welcome Goonerboy. Your flat attacking forehand looks super! and it's great that you're working on getting more topspin. I was saying before that It might seem a bit hard to you right now (to put topspin on high balls that are higher than your strike zone) because at your current height you don't have a lot of room to brush upward on the ball. But you're doing exactly what you should be doing which is hitting them flat, meanwhile developing a great attacking shot you should have anyway.
that is the problem, the high bouncing ball... I have to either step in and take it early (risky but i can), really fast footwork to get back so the ball drops to my hitting zone (correct but takes me out of position badly) or hit it higher and flatter (not great)
He's so good, I play highschool tennis, i started in the 8th grade. I was never really into any other sports either. I just wish i would have discovered tennis earlier, its tough and your kid has a really nice forehand from the look of this video :D.
it would have been a lot simpler if he had wanted to play football - but was never interested - he always loved hitting things and asked us to play tennis... his last comment to me after training this week was "the older and better i get the more i enjoy tennis"
Its a great thing that you child has a passion for what he does and that its only growing. At that age I was very competitive in swimming but I just hated it, and eventually I was allowed to stop. There are ifs or maybes but I was not passionate, I would not have gone far. Good luck to you and especially Marco.
Im still in high school and i swam from when i was about 6-13. I was competitive like you, but i loved tennis so much more, although i have played tennis for less time (4-5 years), im happy i was able to choose the sport i prefer playing
he started with swimming at a younger age and was very good but got bored and struggled to train within a group environment. he chose tennis and loves it, he still enjoys swimming for fun but nothing serious.

who said anything about over rating anyone... over rated compared to what... here we simply have a kid with a passion actively pursuing that what he loves... how about he sits at home instead and gets fat watching TV...

whoa buddy! look at that extension and hitting the balls very early. It's been so interesting watching him progress. And yes he is hitting with topspin.
trust me i'm down the other end and they are pretty much all going in with plenty of topspin... besides, topspin is easier to learn than getting good delivery through the ball... which is what we are after... the results he is getting 3 years above his age are fine... winning at 8 is not important, winning at 18 is...

Same here, I mean in slow mo, the height of his backhand almost would be perfect for a one hander.

I think your hitting the ball for your backhand a little too late try hitting it when it is in front of you

That determines the angle, crosscourt or down the line. You made a dumb comment.

thank you, i am working on getting more topspin on my rally shot but i like to hit it flat when i am attacking and it is a good weapon.
