This footage wasn't filmed on the battlefield, it was an inter regimental competition organised during a training weekend. The idea was for a block to try pushing the other block out of the circle, sometimes if a block is stronger on one side than the other the pushing isn't even and ends up creating a spinning effect and the push goes round and round until it breaks up. Its crap when then happens and normally during a battle that push will be stopped and the units would reform to engage again.
It's called the "bad war", or "push of pike", when two units of pikemen get entangled in close quarters combat much like this. This is why Landsknecht and such had their handle katzbalgers, for close in fighting.
That's exactly what a lot of people did, even! The only problem though is that if everyone took the time to break off, the sheer mass of pikemen on the other side would break through and your unit would collapse. So, some do still need to 'push'.
Why have they for this "sport" pikes? I don't understand... Terrible... Rugby...

I think this might be a training method for when this sort of thing /did/ happen. It was called the "Bad War".

Have to agree with you on that one. Why even bother.

If it were me I would drop my pike and reach for a sword or dagger. Something for close quarters combat.
