They are restoring her I am really not allowed to tell you tube this but I know A employee of NS and he said that I can't tell any one but NW 611 will be restored to haul NS Executive's
@SouthernCresent722 Right, So Your Telling all of Us (on Youtube) That You Just happened, TO talk to Someone, You Just Happend to Be Told By an Employee, That N&W 611, a 4-8-4 Northern, To Pull a Buisness Train, That They Already Have Motive Power for. This Smells Like a Hot Steaming Pile of BS.
Part of the reason that we can't have 611 back now is because of the economy so NS decided 2 smaller consolidation locos were better and since they were smaller means less maintenance an more money to keep. Maybe when the economy turns around we'll get some real results. So give to time and something will come. NS's new CEO Wick Moorman says he'd like 611 better but it's too much money to restore so satisfy the public with a steam program while benefiting the company. And also did anyone notice
No offense, but... your title is a little misleading lol I literally gasped when I saw your video because I thought it meant N&W 611 was restored again.
@sajdrj Good question. It's an ancient 8mm analog video digitized through an analog to DV converter. I didn't change anything with the audio but who knows what kind of accuracy that old camera had.
@echoesLA the rest of the vid sounded great, from the Cardinal calling to his lady friends to the steem excaping from the piston cylenders. Just the whistle sounded off. as if she has water stuck in it. I know it (the whistle) is sounded by steam but this sounded like it had condedsated...
You know, That's the same spot that someone shot NKP#587 going through in the early 90's as well. She was running light. Nice video! NS is supposed to be returning to a steam program, but that was a few months ago, and haven't said much else about it.
@itm426 I think you might be referring to my other video. We had many visitors there when I was growing up. I'm sad we don't have video of 1218 there, but growing up I saw 765 a lot, 611 a lot, and occasionally 587 and just a few times 1218
What memories, wow!!!! I remember being approximately 14 years old when the 611 came through the foothills of North Carolina, through Valdese. My dad and I would try to catch it as many times as we could. The memories made watching her thunder down the track are forever etched in my mind. I hope they bring her back someday so that my children can experience the same thrill that I felt back then.
with close to 5,200 howerpower you no you got of howerpower 611 will always be the king of steam excursion with 4501 being of queen of steam excursions
Thet were the good old day's. I rode behine N&W 611 and 1218. I have video too, but just haven't came across with it yet. I have close to 2000 VHS tapes to go through, lol.

I honestly think Railroads need to have some heritage. I think NS should bring their Steam program back, as well as CSX starting one.

It would be nice if it really did.

Actually, 611 has been called the Queen of the Rails while 4501 is the Emperor of the Rails. Strange how 1218 never got a nickname like that...
NorfolkAndWestern578 2 years ago
It is strange since 1218 was the most powerful steam locomotive to ever be restored to operational condition. I wish she would run again.
echoesLA 1 year ago
@NorfolkAndWestern578 1218 was referred to as the Mercedes of steam.

@NorfolkAndWestern578 1218 was called the Mercedes of steam on the cover of TRAINS magazine when she returned.

Couldn't they loan her to the people at Cheyenne who will surely find a place to run her?
tfftfftff86 2 years ago
I'm not so sure the UP is interested in running non-UP steam.
echoesLA 1 year ago
Sweet. I wish I could have seen her running. Anyone know if they ever plan to run her again?
dreambuilders48808 2 years ago
She's currently on display in Virginia - Norfolk Southern currently has no plans to run her, 1218 or 4501 again.
