  • Great playing. I have the same guitar and it's doing pretty great so far.

    Roll Tide

  • what drum machine are you using (or it's just the track)?

  • @0000song0000 Just a backing track.

  • Was yours set up as terribly as mine when you got it?

  • @7billionand1 It was fairly good. One small sort-of-dead spot, but I'd say it was set up the best (out of the box) of the three Epiphones I have.

  • i had to listen to this 2 times, its great, its saturday 17/12/11 here in sydney and i havent slept well the last few nights,, due to knowing im picking up my royale w/kat this comming monday, il use matchstiks to keep my eye balls open on monday if i have to on the train, but this axe will sure top of x mas 10 times...ZZZZZZZZZ

  • @barnfres60 Thanks - how do you like the Wildkat?

  • @mikec717 Hi there mate, i found it just fine, comfortable and feels good playing,i like the finnish all over and think these style of axe is a winner, pickups are neat and i get vintage sound although usa p/ups bring it to the next level, sweeter, so im stoked man,in 5 weeks my bugera v55 arrives, looked at strauss.fender ive owned 2 times and other ampssettled for the V55 tube amp,im old school tone mate but being drawn to some minor technology advances, buzz ya when amp arrives,m x mas

  • i find it very difficult to get a decent tone out of this guitar on most amps, especially my vox valvetronix.

  • Mike,

Nice job! I just bought this guitar, can't wait to get it. Currently play an Epiphone DOT ES-335 , It's great, I put a Bigsby on it! It is a gre

    at guitar.

  • @lennymo1676 I have a buddy with a Dot, and I like to play it. Not too heavy, and the neck pickup is very nice (the bridge pickup, on the other hand, had too much screech for me).

  • Mighty fine playing there, man!!

  • If you like your blues done funky...then please check out CV Stomp by Guano. I think it might just scratch that funky itch. :-)

  • Good soulful bluesy sound---I like playing the blues myself----

  • Mike, great looking guitar! What is this particular color called?

  • @KONJUNTO Thanks! I think it was just called "Orange". I guess the Marketing Department let the summer interns tackle that project...

  • Sounds great! I have a Flamekat with the the mini humbuckers,I play it more than my Les Paul.

  • i dont know much about such guitars: can you just play single tones or also chords?

  • it sounds like your plugged into a wah to me, any effects? treble boost?

  • Allright, thank you so much for the fast reply. I think I'm gonna have to test one out in a store, I hope they will let me turn it all the way up :)

  • Hey Mike, thanks for the video and your comments man. I have one more question about it. I hope you can help me out

Does it feedback if you play it really loud? I'm thinking about selling one of my guitars for one of these. I have a semi hollow but when I turn to 10, all it does is feedback

  • @pedrogoldfinger Yes, it's definitely more feedback-prone than a solidbody. It's controllable if you adjust where you're standing and are comfortable using your picking hand to deaden the strings at the bridge. If you have trouble keeping things clean at higher volumes, then this guitar might cause you some angst. If you can control it, it will really start singing nicely.

  • where can i check the notes for this song?? thanks

  • hey dude, lovely guitar. i think i'm gonna get one ;) but tell me, how is the neck shaped? 'cause i dont like these thick D-shape billets...^^

  • @HulZor Thanks - I've found it to be a comfortable neck - closer to an SG than a Les Paul. I hear you on the baseball bat-style necks - this isn't one of 'em. Hope you enjoy the guitar if you get one - Mike

  • I like the look of Wildkat, one of the best looking guitars on the market in my opinion. I was interested in getting one, but I'm not sure it would be up to playing some of the heavier stuff I play (Led Zep,Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Guns N' Roses), though I am sure it would cope with my other repetoir (Pink Floyd, Beatles, Radiohead, etc) What would you say?

  • @FloydFan1861 The pickups are P90s, so it doesn't have the "big" feel of a humbucker-equipped guitar. That said, the semi-hollow construction does add a bit of violin-y fatness to the sound, and it handles distortion well. It maintains some string-ring under the buzz, so you don't get this big wall of fuzz. So, Led Zep - yep, Nirvana - maybe, Foo - maybe, QOTSA - hmmm, GnR - yeah. How's that for a roundabout answer?

  • @mikec717 Cheers for the information on the guitar dude, I am really tempted to get one of these as I seem to be playing a lot more blues and Progish stuff at the moment rather than some of the seriously heavy stuff. It's going to be this or a Strat now for sure.

  • @mikec717

    "QOTSA - hmmm "

    Don't Forget, Troy (QOTSA guitarist) uses a semi-hollow with p-90 yamaha ;)

  • @FloydFan1861 I play hardcore punk (basically old school Nirvana) on mine running through a 100 watt line 6. It handles heavy-distortion somewhat well IMO. I can upload a video if you want to hear something. But I say, turn down the neck pickup (or bridge whichever you use most) and in between songs if you are playing a set flip the pickup selector up (or down if you want). That's what I do. I also use a noise gate, and hum canceller. Hope this helps!

  • It's amazing blues and pretty guitar-really :)

  • I bought one of these used... Tagged a gretsch rocker bridge on it with some Gibson 57' pickups on it along with 500k pots... Cost me a total of about $600, and it plays 10x better than stock, and way better than any gretsch i've picked up =]

  • Did the bigsby come with it?

  • @SOCIETYSCREAMS yes it does

  • @SOCIETYSCREAMS Yes, it's a licensed Bigsby.

  • @mikec717 What is the difference between a licensed bigsby and a regular bigsby?

  • WHAT ARE YOU USING FOR THE BACKING TRACK?

  • i was gonna say good playing but then i noticed your shirt... lol no im kidding.. great job and war eagle!!!!

  • i bought a similar model to this guitar, i bought the Emperor Swingster, costed me 700 bucks, but is great too XD

  • I'm very much interested in trying to hunt down a Wildkat, but I'm curious about a thing or two. The biggest thing I'm wondering is about the thickness of the neck. How would you describe it?

    Thanks!

  • lol... your pretty bad man. i'd probably sell that guitar if i was you. maybe use the money to buy the hearing aids that you desperately need. not to mention a new wardrobe

  • puttin' some stank on those notes, nice job Mikey!

  • Mike, thanks for the tip about the Bigs. The tone is very good through my speakers. Good job on the video. ew

  • Very nice playing . Been looking for one of these guitars, and wonder how they feel and sound? Amp sounds great too. How do you like the Bigsby? Cheers. EW

  • @EKWalmsley Thanks - it feels pretty good - body shape is similar to a Les Paul but slightly fatter and much lighter. The setup out of the box was decent - definitely playable. I don't use the Bigsby at all - it goes way out of tune pretty quickly.

  • @mikec717 Mike, would you choose this over the Casino & if so why? curious because I am a bit torn. I have the Dot, but the size is kinda awkward that is why I would gravitate toward the Wildkat. I also want the P90 sound. I know that the Casino is fully hollow & the Kat is semi but they do have a similar sound due to the P90 setup. not to mention I would save $100-200 with the Kat. JUst wanted your insight &opinions.

  • @mikec717 i have an epiphone les paul plus top and i wanted to know if you prefer this over my guitar

  • tune!

  • Never have seen this epi before. Looks cool. And I don't want to repeat myself but ... great tone and realy great blues playiyng :) Greetings from Poland

  • nice tone you squeezing out there

  • I want one.

  • Here in Russia it costs 1000$.. like american special telecaster (1200) what is better? i have 1200.. please, help, what's better to buy? thank you very much..

  • @TolikRyumin I recommend you the Telecaster

It si famous for its funky and crunchy sound!

  • @TolikRyumin i have both, the tele is better by far but the wildkat is great too

  • @TolikRyumin try them out in a music store, then buy the one you prefered over the other....

  • Just bought one of these off ebay for 349. Looking forward to seein the ups dude. Nice playing!!

  • sweet dood!

  • It's such a beautifully sounding guitar but it looks like a Cheez-it

  • nice sound.....

  • sweet guitar, awesome blues.

how many years have you been playing?!

  • I like that, awesome playing

  • very nice

  • nice tone

  • Great!

  • can u post a tutorial on this number pleeeeeaasseee

  • Nice Work! Got Surf Green! a Guy bought it for his son and the son Didnt want it, So Really has never been played,And they knocked off $150.00 for me and has a case,Cant Bet That! I was in the right place at the right Time! LOVE IT!!!

  • i have one of these...its nice clean and slighty distorted but it gets raped by feedback when you jack the distortion up (obviously its not for playing motorhead!) still a beaut guitar

  • raped by feedback?that makes me want it more :D

  • SHOW US THE RAUNCH SIDE!

There is a lack of overdriven wildkat on youtube and i wanna hear some!!!

    Thumbs up if you agree!?

  • @smileomen i totally agree, and will change this!

got the wildkat deluxe with trans white finish, plays like butter!

playing through a peavey classic 50 the wildkat wants to scream!

keep an eye on my channel, it will be filled with videos soon!

  • totally dig this tone though!

    great playing as well!

    ROCK ON!

  • Sounds almost like my gretsch same color but huge whic i love.nice playing love the jam

  • i would date any man who played an epiphone wildkat.

they are by far my favorite guitar.

  • O really? :)

  • mad

  • Nice tone and sweet blues licks! This is vis so coincidental - because I play the exact same guitar (except mine's a blond color) and Vox amp combination in a blues band AND have done a demo using that exact same backing track... What amp are you modelling here?

  • Roll Tide!

  • I've been thinking about picking one of these bad boys up. You are making a strong case here! Love the tone - well done!

  • i can get one for 275 but the 3 way switch is not working right. sounds like a bad connection. anyone know how much to fix.

  • woow, not to bad for a 600 bugs guitar...

great demo, i guess i'll buy the same one ...

  • 600 bucks? This was $350. Sounds even better now, doesn't it?!

  • my bad how much did it cost? sorry....

  • 350 bucks. Quite a deal.

  • @mikec717

Do you recall the setup that you were using in the Vox? I have that same amp and I love blues! Did you use any pedal?

    Thanks!

    My best greetings!

  • @xx3 Thanks - I don't remember the exact setup (it may be someone down further in the comments), but it's one of the Vox models with everything set roughly halfway up. Nothing fancy and no pedals or anything.

  • @mikec717

Ok! I think I'm already getting the idea of what model it is... Maybe AC-15 / 30!

    Thanks! XD

  • hey how much did this wildkat cst? It sounds GREAT

  • You know how epiphone has been doing the all mahogany sgs and sheraton dots, I so wish they would make an all mahogany version of this guitar, I would buy it super fast. An all mahogany sorrento wouldn't be bad either.

  • P90s rock!

Would you recommend this guitar over the Epiphone Casino?

  • I haven't played a Casino, but I have a 355, and I like the size of this body better. It feels a lot like a Les Paul - much lighter. If you like the sound of P90s (I agree, I like 'em a lot), then for the price, this guitar is a no-brainer, in my opinion. - Mike

  • Very nice sound and playing!

  • How bad is the other stuff you listen to?

  • nice playing the guitar sounds great maybe i'll buy it someday

  • Very good! :D

Did you use the standard blues scale for this one?

  • Yep, that's all it is.

  • Magical, seems to me that i have a lot to learn :)

  • actually can i get the tabs to this not the other song plz thanks.

  • nice tone

  • Nice playin', Mike. I just sold my US made Strat and ordered a Wildkat. It's on backorder and I can hardly wait for it to arrive. Again, great job. Sounds awesome.

  • hey me again, just wondering what brand of stings you use

  • They're whatever came on the guitar - probably Epiphones!

  • ok thanks man!

  • nice playing man

but ive got a sort of of topic question, do you have any idea how a wildkat is wired?

ive been trying to figure out how to wire a master volume and a master tone, and two individual volumes for each pickup.

the only difference between the wildkat and what im trying to do is have the neck and bridge humbuckers on a three way w/ a volume and then the middle single coil with its own volume, THEN to master volume/master tone etc.

can you or anyone help me out?

  • Hey,

Ya ive been using my wildkat latley and the feedback is really annoying, Now i dont know if its the strings. If you know a way to get rid of the feedback please reply

  • Semi-hollowbodies are more susceptible to feedback than a solidbody. If you're playing with a lot of gain, turn it down, and that should clean things up. Let me know if that helps! -Mike

  • Thank You it Helped a lot

I also changed the strings to DR and it sounds very good now

    Thanks For the Help

  • im thinkin on buying a semi-hollowbody guitar

and i like the sound of this one, is the guitar also usable for pop??

  • Yep, sounds great!

  • A better guitar for pop Would have been the wildkat's sister, the alleykat. I have both, and the alleykat has good sounds for pop, rock and jazz, while the wildkat is good with blues and jazz...

But sadly, the Alleykat has been discontinued... :(

If you want one, pm me and i will look out for a second hand one, they are really good, and surprisingly cheap.

  • Hey Technoman, yeah it's sad news to learn the Alleykat's been discontinued, along with her funky art deco sister, the Flame Kat. I specifically wanted the latter because of the dual mini-humners. GOOD news is that we BOTH own Alleykats keeping the minihummer sound alive!

If you can answer this via YouTUbe mail: is it possible to replace the bridge pu on an Alleykat with another mini humbucker? [Just bought an Alleykat and don't want to go digging around under the pickup mount.]

  • Nice!

I play a Epiphone Les Paul Classic through the same amp and it sounds great.

  • Very kool lovin it

Would you recomened this to a person who plays rock

  • Thanks - yeah, it's a versatile guitar. Anything up to a decent crunch sounds pretty good on it.

  • Great playing Mike, I've viewed your other vids and all equally as great.

  • where can i find that backing track? sounds fun to play to

  • Thanks - it's from the Guitar Center "King of the Blues" website. I think the track is "Funky Woman". A Google search should find it for you.

  • Cool dude -- nice playing! I've been eyeballing the Wildkat at the music store and am convinced I gotta have one. Thanks for posting.

  • Seriously good!

  • Nice rhythm track, lead a bit samey

  • Whoa, that sounds great!

  • Really good. You play a lot like Walter "Wolfeman" Washington.

  • the rhythm guitar on that track is really nice.

  • Very Coool man Smooth ,really great guitar work. Fantastic :-). 5 Stars bro .

  • Love the wildkat. I have an elitist casino and I would definitely love to have one of these.

  • I liked your phrasing a lot!

    Great vid ;)

  • bravo

  • Nice playing and awesome tone! I also play a

Wildkat through a VOX AD50 when I playin' blues it's a great combination...

  • Sick... i hav a guitar similar to this ... i hav an Alley Kat... check it out in one of my videos!

  • What does the extra switch below the neck pick up do?

  • Overall volume of the guitar. You can set each pickup's volume independently, and then there's a master volume.

  • I've had a fascination with this guitar for quite some time. I've had far too many Epiphones come and go through my doors, from solid bodies to full hollow to semi hollow, and everytime I hear a Wildkat I love that it does it all. Might just have to get one.

    Great playing.

  • Holy hell, are you channelling BB King?

Fantastic stuff, especially since it was just pulled out of thin air. 5 ***** and thanks for sharing this!

  • Hey, with comments like that, you're welcome to post on my videos any day of the week - thanks very much! -Mike

  • I have played acoustic guitar for a very long time, and finally decided to get an electric. I think this video actually helped make my decision to get a Wildkat.. should get here next week. Play on!

  • I have the same guitar, same amp what settings is the amp on? I can't play very well but I love the tone you've got with it

    MR

  • Thanks - it's been a while since I recorded it, but I believe I was using one of the Vox models, probably about 50% gain, volume full up, a touch of high end boost and maybe a bit of mid boost. Guitar is usually around full volume, tone about 75% up. That'll be in the ballpark, anyway. Good luck with it! -Mike

  • The guitar looks a little like a Gretsch Electromatic with the Bigsby and the orange color.

Anyway, outstanding playing. I searched funky blues, and that's definitely what I got. Keep it up.

  • nice

  • yo did u make that up or is it from a song and if it was made by u wut was ur inspiration and how did u think of it?

  • Nah, I was just winging it. Pressed play on the recorder and recorded whatever happened!

  • perfect

  • great sound dude i loved it!

i have the same amp aswell it rockssss

  • great playing. did you do the backing tracks, too?

  • Thanks - the backing track was something I found online, so I can't take credit for that. Take a listen to my Chevelles video (where I played all the instruments), and let me know what you think of that one. But regardless, thanks for the comment. - Mike

  • your really on to something.

  • Nice to hear someone actually play the GUITAR rather then stomp boxes and screaming distorion.......nice job....ultra cool retro guitar.

  • Thanks!

  • you play great !

  • sweet solo dude! I have one of those guitars (black) as well and love it. Its tough to find a good guitar with P90s these days. With the right amp the sound is very sweet.

  • I like that guitar.I'd like it more with a hardtail tune o matic bridge

  • It does have a tun-o-matic, just a bigsby instead of a stoptail. If you want the stoptail, you can get an Epi Alleykat, although I think the A/k has a slightly bigger body.

  • Very cool guitar! I had a friend years ago who had a mid-60's Casino that was fantastic for playing Rockabilly. This looks like it's right up that alley.

As for solos - screw all the tab, books, and other rote-memorization routes. Just play in time, make mistakes, then fix the mistakes. 1,2,3.

  • nice doodlin there bud, ive been lookin ta snag me a hollowbody too. Im getting a bit tired of my solidbodies and was cosiderin some includin the wildcat(Epi Casino, Eastwood Classic 6). Thanks for demo

  • Nice!! Just started playing myself and got a black translucent Wildkat. Great guitar for the price. My Gibson friend poo poos Epiphone, but I really like this guitar. It's really unique to Epiphone. No one else makes anything similar, not even Gibson.

Love to see other Wildkat fans posting videos. Keep them coming! When I get good enough maybe I'll post some too. :-)

  • Congrats on the Wildkat purchase - let your Gibson friend think what he wants, it's a nice feeling and sounding guitar! When I started playing, you were choosing between Cort and Harmony guitars in this price range!

  • Nice I been playing for quite a few years. I also have the translucent black & it kicks ass. The only problem I have is keeping it in tune. It only happens when I use the bar which I use a lot. I also have a Fender Tele w/ a Bigsby but never have a problem with it. Other than that it is a great guitar.

  • Hey fellow Wildkat fan! The Bigsby is great and fun but I have the same problem. I just bought a Wilkinson roller bridge. I read that's helps a lot. Also, changing the nut will help too. Maybe a graphtech (might change tone too much), tusq, or roller nut will be good. Haven't gotten around to doing the nut yet. This other guy routed his strings *over* the capstan and he said that helped a lot. But I've read the low E can pop out of the saddle especially if you tune down.

  • I did try running the strings over the capstan. You read right, those low E's do pop off! I might try that roller bridge though.

  • i own one, the same one , black trans. live outside of pittsburgh . there fans are growing! the guitar is great if you want a hollowbod sound. without the thing being huge. i'm 5'8 so this is great for me. p 90s on this are nice to. right price. i'll post me playing mine soon. just got a case for it a few months ago. there hard to find.

  • Yeah I hear ya. I bought my case from barryclarkmusic on Ebay for around $60...not bad. One of the latches is a little off, but not big deal for me as it works. Plywood shell. Alligator skin brown tolex. The case fits like a glove. Nice. I just checked and he doesn't have any for sale at the moment, but you might want to email him.

  • Sweet! I gave it a five. You almost got a 3 for wearin that Alabama sweat shirt, but I let it slide this time;)

  • Thank you - in the interest of full disclosure, I received it from a client. Please check my Philadelphia Eagles video to see where my real loyalties lie. :-)

  • very very good! I've enjoyed it!! greetings from Sicily!!!

  • StratomasterT sent me to check out your video. Great job. I enjoyed it. Nice guitar too!

  • Thanks very much! If you happen to see a Wildkat, give it a try.

  • Try a Google search for "blues backing tracks mp3". You should find a few!

  • Oh, good idea...never thought of that!

  • I have a guitar collection going (see my videos!) but no Wildkat. How much do those run?

  • Hi there - mine was $350 from Musician's Friend. I've seen them as low as $300 online if you get a blemished one. Compared to what you could buy for 300 bucks when I started playing 23 years ago, it was a no-brainer!

  • Very nice guitar. I've been hitting flea markets and garage sales and have been getting lucky, usually not spending more than about $300 for instruments that play as well as the expensive stuff.

Nice guitar--I'd not seen one before. Thanks for the post.

  • mine 499 guitar center pittsburgh 2006. black.

  • You can get a book that includes a CD. Often times, they have dry tracks (no guitar) with full group backing and you can play along with it.

  • I want a Wildkat or a Alleycat from Epiphone, and now I saw this video. I definitely want one!
