@dragonridley It hit the industrial park on the west edge of town. Really lucky actually, since it was headed straight toward Rock Valley but changed direction just before it got there. I was driving home and was almost there when I saw this beast heading straight for where I live. It was awesome in a freaky way haha.
Radio: "we don't have anything confirmed on the ground yet" haha. That's the BIG problem with radio, television and NOAA weather radio reports. Lots of times, those reports are 5 to 10 mins. LATE. I know they do their best, they really do. But there is just simply a logistical time lag between the spotter on the ground contacting the tv or radio station, and the station relaying that report to the on-air guy. The avg. citizen simply must ALSO keep a vigilant eye on the sky during these times.
Haha you've got to love the weather service, "there is nothing confirmed on the ground" coming form the television and your staring it "right in the face"
Nobody was hurt in this storm but there was some old guy farmer dude who was on the news that took cover behind a crapy old wooden fence lol. there were i think 6 confirmed tornadoes in that area.
"Strong rotation?!?" Yeah, I guess that's one way of putting it...!

Did this hit the town itself or just go nearby?

This tornado was partially filmed for the Discovery Channel show "Storm Chasers". The episode was on earlier tonight (11/2/08).

Yet another reason trained spotters and chasers are needed "strong rotation has been detected nothing has been confirmed yet" lol
