Yeah after season 3 Carver learned how to be a real street cop and he's a great police officer. Herc was always an idiot, but he was very good at being "police muscle" so to speak, and coincidentally that's what he was doing for most of the time. Once he stopped "bustin' heads" he was just too dumb to understand how real policework was done. I did kinda like him in season 5 though, he was good as Levy's assistant.

Still, Carver was the best cop, but the 2 of them were funny together :)
