  • 7 People slipped in mud tonight.

  • admirable

  • this is not as much about musicianship as...

  • I work at a small hotel in Atlanta and Roky is playing a show at the starlight six drive-in tomorrow. Guess where he's staying while he's in town!!!!! I got to talk to him and his wife!!!! It was so awesome, I looked up from my desk and I was like HOLEEE SHIT dude I love your music!

  • Wow...Vic Chesnutt took a little bit from ol' Roky.

  • Comment removed

  • Roky always reminded me of a R&R Michael Hurley...

  • imo roky is well beyond rock n roll hall of fame, he don't need it he don't want it, he just is... but it would be great if he gets in, cuz he's a unique talent..

  • america's syd barrett

  • Wow this guy really isint all that good dudes

  • @MeSh479 where are all the awesome songs youve written man? i cant seem to find em on here.

  • I ROKY IS DEAD LONG LIVE ROKY

  • King of the Beasts.

  • It's eerie not because of content, its eerie because the man is totally insane.

  • @BladeAndStick Roky is far from insane. He had his issues for several years, but he is fully emancipated, tours regularly and lives a normal life.

  • Wasnt meant as an insult. No one can deny Roky was a lil off hiss rocker back then, thats all I'm saying.

  • @Ldale11

For those who think that Roky is "insane" please read my upcoming, recent interview with him which will be featured in Goldmine magazine. IMHO it is quite possibly THE BEST interview he has given in ages, if not in his entire career. He is quite lucid, intelligent, brutally honest and funny throughout, and he addresses many issues that I have never seen any other journalist ask him.

  • Motherfucker Looks like JERRY the King LAWLER!!

  • @SCREAMSFORTINA Hell yea he does Mid South Wrestling REPRAZENT

  • there is a documentary about Roky this taken from it....his pshyco mother that made a lot of creepy videos with Roky

  • "youre gonna miss me"

    his mom was a nut,.

its crazy how he could only sleep with all that noise on/

  • yeeeeaaahhhh man...i love this version.

i like the footage of him with the black angels too! oooof! so goood

  • Roky Erickson...What Chuck Manson would be if he had Focus.

  • Chuck Manson would be Hitler if he had focus. Please do not compare Roky to that murder.

  • whre i can download this show?

  • 25 years ago tonight

    Let us remember

  • "On Saint Swither's Day he was born"

  • Have to admit: until today I hadn't heard any RE music.

Just read Nick Kent's short-story 'The Strange and bewildering world of RE and his 2-headed dog', smoked a joint and remembered that I had heard the story of this "royal freak, nutcase etc.".

And what do I hear? Bloody great, great music!!!

Wow! Blown away! Good to know, that there's still some great music out there ...

  • that was fuckin beautiful

  • one of the most underrated musicians of all time.

  • @bradattax not at all. same thing with mark e smith, he's just appreciated by the right crowd.

  • @bradattax AMEN!!!!

  • Where do I get this version?????

    I NEED it!!!!

  • download "free youtube to mp3"

  • I think this version is incredible. Just a different perspective on the same "story", sort of.

  • Superfuckin great version! Roky for ever

  • This really catches the eerie feeling of the night of the vampire. Try to do that with other jump-to-the-music-songs

  • Can't really be a cover if it's originally your song to begin with, can it?

  • If you can't pick up energy unless it comes from an electrical instrument then that's you're problem. This is intense.

  • Check out the reorded version of the song. You can lick on one of the links to the right. It is much more impressive.

  • cuz i love licking links

  • thanks mikey!

  • Totally agree with Willish. Awesome Mikey, thanks.

  • I like the laid back nature of this song. Sure its a little repetative but its still really quite emotive in vocals and beautiful. I love the accent he puts on when saying Transylvania.

Thanks Mikey Way for making this your song of the day. Wouldnt know it existed otherwise.

  • you would never guess he suffers from severe dementia and schizophrenia disorganized type

  • Roky is a great musician and is playing a good role in our next album.

  • This is rad.

  • nosotros en LAFE amamos a Roky!

  • Roky Erickson fucking Kicks ASS! I love his music. only the stupid people are haters and dont appreciate great music!

  • @WiicanWizard13 Amen to that, my friend - every word. Thank you.

  • Roky is a legend. Fuck you haters!

  • where is he in this video?

  • its Roky Erickson (google for him)

  • I know who he is, but where is he is the question. looks like a cool setup.

  • I think it's on the set of this goofy movie that his mother made. There's a part of it in the "You're Gonna Miss Me" documentary.

  • I think thats in austin

  • the best vertion i like it morre than the studio vertion

  • I did not know that Roky did a cover on entombeds night of the vampire. Thats cool!

  • Haha! Good one! :-)

  • what?

    he wrote the song lol!!!!

  • No, way! I've listened to the song and I can here that Entombed's is the original! Roky did this song when he was young in the beginning of the 90's. Entombed recorded it in the late 60's.

  • what? roky is 61 years old and was young in the 60's..entombed began as a band in 1987 and this performance is from 1984.

    you do the math

  • It was a joke, which Skogge understood.

  • @ssstoffe please....roky vs entombed....please ...look up facts

  • @jewelw3 why don't you look up facts? I wrote that it was a joke. Reading isn't your thing, is it?

  • St.Rhythims Day He Was Born...

  • Don't Slip In Blood Tonite:{**

  • This is from a movie called "Demon Angel" that I used to have on VHS (and am hoping to obtain again soon).

It's one of my favorite movies ever - mostly footage of him playing all those beautiful songs.

  • roky eres lo maximo!!!!!

  • does Roky live in Austin Texas?

  • im not sure, but i've met him countless times in austin. he's good friends with my dad.

  • Bellissima !

  • Great song! :)

  • roky is awesome and a beautiful song writer, thanks for posting this!

  • nice to see him smile after all of his fucking electric treatment he got from sick idiotic people..so horrible to think of..

    so sad..roky forever

  • I agree best version..this guy is awesome

  • they did a bang up job filming this

  • One of a kind perfomer.

mentally ill and doped up this guy is far mor talented than any or all of the sorry little boys of entombed

  • Let those who like both Roky and Entobed answer that question instead since you are clearly not impartial and can therefor not give a fair answer, since you fail to see how talented Entombed are. If you don't LIKE Entombed, now that's a completely different thing. That's called different taste and does NOT make you right or wrong.

  • its not like entombed is trying to be better with their version, its simply a cover and should be looked at as a tribute rather than them trying to be better

  • Exactly! people don't understand that covers are meant to be a version of a song and not a copy of the original only played by another band. For example, the killers who plays romeo/juliette almost the same as Dire straits played it. But if you listen to apoptygma berzerk and their cover of metallica's Fade to black. almost no resemblance except vocals.

  • I think this is the best version ever of this song.

  • Roky never makes mistakes and does not drink!

  • hmm Nick Kent wrote something about it...Roky Eirckson took drugs and in the middle of 80s got mad

  • I read that too, in The Dark Stuff. I think that's one of the better books for anyone seriously interested in rock & roll.

I appreciated Nick Kent's honesty, but I thought his attitude towards Roky was a bit disrespectful, to say the least. Maybe I didn't take it the way he intended it. But I think he could have said more about Roky's music and legacy, instead of dwelling on the details of his appearance.

  • That was re: jole1222's comment, on page 2.

And I meant to add that it annoyed me because I'm sick of the superficial attitude that's so prevalent in any rock scene.

I'm in it for the music and I don't give a crap about much else, except that people get the respect they deserve.

    Maybe I'm old-fashioned.

  • may i say that you are an idiot?

  • @okkim138 I will second that.

  • This is a aucustic version of the original. But still its 10 times better than Entombeds´s. That was like the most embarassing comments ive seen here on youtube hah

  • "But it's just my opinion" god damnit! Isn't he entitled to his opinion? It's called different taste and does not make it an embarassing comment. The fact that everyone don't think like you does NOT make them wrong or embarassing. What it does is make you look very very 1300-europe-dark-ages-christianish. And let's face it, not even the chruch want to acknowledge what they did back then ;*

  • omfg what a retardish comment...

  • @Nirutech your opinion is officially void

  • This was recorded in 1984 on a rock in a running creek behind my Mom's house in Austin Texas, near the Elizabeth Ney Museum. My Mom ran electric cords from our house and She was really worried that Roky would get electrocuted. He played several songs IN THE CREEK with the extension cord hanging in the water. He did a few songs with her Les paul too, and Had dinner with us. Thanks for posting this solo!!!P.S. This is not a COVER. Roky was founded and singer for The 13th Floor Elevators.

    ~ Bane

  • awesome performance, cool to hear it without all the lead guitar. the best cover ive heard of this one is by Haunted George.

  • although roky night of the vampire is the best one i do have to say that the cover entombed done of this song is close to the best cover ever made of any song, usually covers blows donkey but entbombed's version is very very good, nontheless rokys is far better but still, good cover

  • entombed dont have nothing on roky. honestly i think they completely ruin the song

  • Swedish metalists Entombed recorded a cool cover of this song!

  • He's the Mad King in Yellow

  • Does anybody have the chords or tabs for this song??

  • Thats funny because in the video he doesn't play any power chords its all open chords and barre chords.

  • Em G C D

  • Thank you so much for posting this, I haven't heard these guys in years.

  • this version is on the "demon angel - a day and a night with roky erickson" cd

  • cool version!!!

  • still rocks

  • Where can i download rocky acoustic? please help.

  • You're right.

  • You are all gonna think that I´m an idiot but I like the Entombed cover more altough this version is not bad.

  • you guys do know the version on album is completely different from this version, right?

  • check entombed night of the vampire cover

  • give us a update after the show thispego that would be awesome

  • I believe that this was a gig at The Ritz Theatre in Austin back in "80 or "81. I have the gig poster from this show!

  • 'Tis wonderful, the incongrueous aesthetics of acid champions/casualties. Ugly dorky crown, YELLOWish jacket, but singing about night and vampires. It works better than a pale boy in black velvet because there seems a genuine quality in this incongruity.

  • Ahh..I think Roky is a CUTIE, and he has a GREAT sense of humor! I LOVE the crown. so fitting! LOVE his voice too!

  • yall yankees are gonna miss it, march 15th austin texas

  • YEAH!!

  • Beautyful song..

  • I like his voice.

  • perfection
